Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like Alf to stay around, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from //www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: //www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @DoctorTwo for the thread title! I was strongly tempted by R4's suggestion of Wildlife on Four: Jonneh is wild at Lily, Phoebe rewilds by Occam, Joy is in the wilderness and David is bewildered by a marriage proposal. Grin

So we did make it past Joe's funeral at last. Are we heading for a Christmas octogenarian wedding now?

Joy's dim Northerner. I was puzzling last night as to what Joy's accent was meant to be. Any ideas? Is that suggestion of Northerner based on anything more than "It doesn't sound like any southern or midlands accent that I've ever heard"?

If he is your friend and she isn't particularly, wouldn't it be sensible for you to tell her she has been photographed snogging someone rather than going and telling her boyfriend? Putting it to her that she is bound to be found out and she needs to do something about it because her boyfriend is going to be upset when he finds out?

That way you may lose a friend if she tells him you are inventing lies about her, but given that the photograph exists that's a lot less likely, and I'd've thought you are almost certain to lose his friendship if you tell him. People don't like being told their girlfriend is cheating on them, even if she is. Maybe especially if she is.

Joy is meant to be a Geordie, or maybe a Sand Dancer, MereDint. She said she comes from South Shields.

It seems unlikely to me that Joy will turn out to be a stalker. Surely even the TA SWs wouldn't wish another strange, obsessive, controlling type onto the Bridge Farm lot?

I might have misheard and it was Southfelds that she used to live in. I think that is in Newcastle proper. Anyhow, it's in that area, and that's the area she's from.

It's Shieldfield, Asking!

And if Lynda has gone on a long holiday, I reckon Roooth must have gone with her. She's been awfully quiet lately....

you have to tell him before he finds out? Because he will find out.....
If he will find out anyway, there's little point in rushing to tell him, unless you are overly invested in other people's relationships and behaviour - prurient and nebby, in other words.

Wow, @Pierrettelasanguinaire. You do realise this is the Archers thread and not AIBU, don’t you?

My brother used to live in a small village in a bit of Sussex famed for its fireworks parties/processions. My recollection is that there was always some sort of disturbance when a villager's boyfriend/girlfriend discovered a rival. Queue lots of drunken shouting and wailing (TBF nobody had smartphones in those days!).

Doubtless somebody is keeping tabs on it, but SL does seem to have banished quite a few characters in favour of newbies recently. I suppose it stops SW having to worry about continuity cock-ups, but it can't be much cheaper.

The absence of Ruth is not something I am sad about!

Shieldielders - does Joy sound like a local to you?

I reckon Joy has had a falling out with her family but reckon despite being annoying at first will turn out to be ok............but then again maybe not. Some kick Phoebe into touch and tell her to get a job on her own without help of family etc

EBearhug · 19/11/2019 18:05

Joy may have lived in Shieldfield for a long time, but I don't know if we have heard she grew up there as well (we might have and I just tuned out,) so it's quite possible her accent won't completely match.

Thanks, WheresThatGoneNow and MUM, for "It's Shieldfield."

I knew it was somewhere Newcastley with Shield in it somewhere....

Geordie, in any case, which was where she is meant to come from.

Nah ... It’s just unhealthy for Elizabeth to be all up in her daughter’s business.

But it’s funny the way CMR’s whole demeanour is more relaxed with Elizabeth than with Lily ...

Can’t help suspecting Jill absolutely does not want to get married!

Agree Jill won't want to get married and will go ballistic when she finds out the level of discussion behind her back.

Did CMR bring coffee to Elizabeth in her bedroom? Ugh.
I love the way CMR was so critical of Jim and then backed off when called on to help. Coward.
