Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to LillianGish for the title idea. Very tempted to go with MrsGrindah's suggestion of It’s all a bit crap and boring at the moment but let's be positive, maybe things will look up in the coming days ... Hmm Also very taken with Lexi's Midnight Runners - Burpers, maybe? - from Madcats.

Not at all happy about Lily not going to university. Yet another bright Ambridge woman not fulfilling her potential. Why do they do this?

We didn't know we were born, with William Smethurst and The Beetle (VW, can't remember what her initials stand for - is it Vanessa Whitburn?) Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/10/2019 19:05

Pity Feedback is so toothless.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/10/2019 19:07

Yes, Vanessa Whitburn. She killed Nigel. Huge mistake.

OP posts:
Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 01/10/2019 19:09

Completely agree about the Killing of Nigel. Was that before or after Norman Painting's demise, I can't remember?

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 01/10/2019 19:13

Oh FFS! Pip and Hannah Angry

Why do I keep listening?

What's the betting we're in for a 'gay pig' storyline? Poor old Basil.

Fink · 01/10/2019 19:15

LSWs clearly only know one Bulgarian dish. Lexi has been heard making banitsa at least 3 times and never (as far as I can remember) anything else. They could at least branch out to baklava or something.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 01/10/2019 19:16

Oh, Brian!

I have missed a few episodes - did anyone give Jenny a dressing gown for her behaviour at the hospital?

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 01/10/2019 19:17
  • a dressing DOWN!!

Bloody autocorrect Angry

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 01/10/2019 19:24

Give poor old Basil a couple of boars to get jiggy with. I'm sure he'd be much happier Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/10/2019 19:25

Before. Feb 2010 Phil died, several months after Norman Painting died. Jan 2011 Nigel killed off.

Norman painting died on 29th October 2009; Nigel was killed off on 2nd January 2011.

Fink · 01/10/2019 19:29

WheresThatCatGoneNow, she got neither. She got humoured by Brian, Ian and Helen tried to hide from her then humoured her, and off-air Adam, Kate, and Alice have all met with her and we haven't heard of any dressings down or gowns. The only sign that anyone other than Brian has noticed her complete departure from the real world was tonight when Ed mentioned what Susan had said.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/10/2019 19:36

Which seems to indicate that Susan is talking to him in spite of "what he has done to My Emma" and keeping her snidery and snipery for Clarrie. Which is strange.

I note also that Hannah thinks George is Ed's son.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/10/2019 20:02

I thought I noted a slight hesitation in Ed where he thought about correcting her and then decided it was too complicated. Which I thought was probably realistic.

The SWs must have been delighted to get the weather forecast right for once. Heavy rain in Ambridge, floods across many parts of England.

Yeah, except that we've had lots of heavy downpours since Easter so I don't know why the guttering was only a problem now.
Besides which: Neil is not a six-month-procrastinator. Another personality transplant.

UnholyStramash · 01/10/2019 20:12

A dressing gown for Jenny sounds just right, preferably with the cord tied really tightly round her neck. Brian was so awful today too - so tactless. Good for Lexi in her response.

JennyDarlingsDressingGown · 01/10/2019 20:28

I don't have a cord and i wouldn't strangle my wonderful owner

Fink · 01/10/2019 20:32

My mistake, Ed said it was Clarrie who'd said Jennifer 'wasn't herself', not Susan.

No indication that there's been any thawing of relations between Grundy and Carter clans. Maybe Joe's death will do it.

SallyGoRoundTheSun · 01/10/2019 22:11

She's only in her 60's, isn't she?

She is 65. I'm 60. I assumed until I looked it up that she was much older than me.

C8H10N4O2 · 01/10/2019 23:02

I can understand her role-differentiated marriage, from what I've seen of my rural relatives, but I can't imagine her feeling it was her ordained role

Oh I don't know. Read any thread here about useless partners and read the gazillion replies telling the OP its either her fault, his mother's fault or some evolutionary deficit. This renders men incapable of reading the instructions on a washing machine or remembering family birthdays but makes them perfect for putting up shelves so we should be grateful.

Considering a sizeable number of these posters seem to be young enough to be one of my DC I find that profoundly depressing.

Tonnerre · 01/10/2019 23:47

I'm surprised Neil hasn't suggested trying Basil with a nice chilli.

HatingTheBigShow · 02/10/2019 06:43

Basil will be finding himself in a chilli if he doesn't pull his finger out

DadDadDad · 02/10/2019 08:19

er... his finger?!

JennyDarlingsDressingGown · 02/10/2019 08:25

Ugh!
