Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to LillianGish for the title idea. Very tempted to go with MrsGrindah's suggestion of It’s all a bit crap and boring at the moment but let's be positive, maybe things will look up in the coming days ... Hmm Also very taken with Lexi's Midnight Runners - Burpers, maybe? - from Madcats.

Not at all happy about Lily not going to university. Yet another bright Ambridge woman not fulfilling her potential. Why do they do this?

I think there is no anonymity anymore and a child can find the parent (egg donor or sperm donor) at the age of 18.

BertrandRussell · 03/10/2019 11:04

Neil’s the latest for a personality transplant.

BertrandRussell · 03/10/2019 11:05

Mind you it’s good to see Justin getting back to his old personality again..,,

HelloYouTwo · 03/10/2019 11:14

Ah we’re back to Justin, CEO of a mega company, micro-managing the employees at one of his tiny businesses. Since when would the pig(wo)man be able to call up the CEO on his mobile for a rant about her manager, whilst simultaneously dropping herself in it regarding going up a ladder, no H&S etc.

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/10/2019 11:26

C8 I don't think Hannah and Ed would be more than a sex thing but it's almost a dead cert that Hannah will go for him since he is supposed to be a bit of a hottie.

I suspect (and the 🔮 concurs) that Justin will sack Neeyull (or make it impossible for him to continue) and Neil and Rex will go into business together.

Tonnerre · 03/10/2019 12:21

Xander wouldn't find Lexi through a DNA test, as he's not her biological child.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2019 12:32

Thanks Tas What happens if the child is desperate to find his biological mother before the age of 18?

8Tonnere* I wasn't suggesting he might want to find Lexi (though he might of course).

birdsdestiny · 03/10/2019 13:24

Well of course he will be able to find Lexi. Ian and Adam are best friends with her, surely those bonds of friendship will never be broken.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 03/10/2019 13:28

Bloody Hannah! She just gets my back up Angry

What is her problem?

PantTwizzler · 03/10/2019 14:46

Time to stop listening I think. So much inconsistency in many of the characters.

Tableclothing · 03/10/2019 15:30

I've met some outstandingly rude bullies in my time, but I have never met anyone as consistently, overtly aggressive and belittling towards their boss as Hannah is. I find it literally incredible that Neil wouldn't have fired her a very long time ago. Come on, scriptwriters.

Fink · 03/10/2019 15:33

As I understand the surrogacy laws, Xander's initial birth registration won't be deleted, it will be annotated to record the new parent(s). Therefore if he wanted to find Lexi (and she had mysteriously stopped being besties with Adam and Ian), her name would still be on his birth record.

Taswama · 03/10/2019 15:39

Lexi will be named as the mother on the birth certificate Thunder

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/10/2019 15:48

Neil can't just fire Hannah; he has to go through the proper procedure. He could do it because of her deliberate disregard for the laws about health and safety at work, which would be a suspension offence at least -- you cannot have employees on the premises who wilfully break the law and refuse to obey a direct order to stop doing so.

He certainly ought to issue her with a written warning, though. If she breaks her silly neck doing something illegal and stupid against his direct order, he is the one who will be in trouble at a tribunal. Like David when Jethro refused to wear his protective helmet when felling timber in spite of everything David could say, and was killed by a falling branch hitting him on the head.

But she is not his employee, so any firing would have to be done by her boss, which presumably is the ever hands-on Justin, who has no business outside Ambridge any more.

MardyLardy · 03/10/2019 17:57

Hannah is ridiculous. No one ever has been so unrelentingly foul and yet still employed and tolerated.

MikeUniformMike · 03/10/2019 19:32

I am obviously am not listening properly as I thought I heard Ed say that someone was gay and bi.

BertrandRussell · 03/10/2019 20:29

Couldn’t Neil fire Hannah for gross misconduct- thereby freeing up a job for Ed?

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/10/2019 20:44

So Ed is looking for a house-share.

It will be with Hannah

MikeUniformMike · 03/10/2019 20:48

Could we all complain to the BBC about TA.Would they fob us all off or would they change it?

drspouse · 03/10/2019 22:25

I had to switch off after Jennifer's rant on Monday. Someone tag me when they've stopped talking about Lexi as if she was a test tube. We're adopters so it's way too close to home.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 03/10/2019 23:04

Just found this on Twitter. Have any of you seen it? So funny Grin

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2019 07:40

And what about the bloody Gills? What’s happening there?

echt · 04/10/2019 07:59

Good point Bertrand, and yet another instance of how the SWs have completely lost their way. Presumably the Gills don't shop, don't talk to anyone in Ambridge, the absence of which would be a topic of conversation in itself.

Don't these people even have a spreadsheet to show how often any character has popped up in the narrative?

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2019 08:10

Last time someone mentioned Home Farm House it was to say that the Gills had let it to a yobbish family called the Wards. Am I the only person to hear this ? Did I Imagine it?

I know I didn't because we had friends called Ward. So I must have taken note of that name.
