The Archers #109: Pulp Fiction! Hammer Horror (Tracy), Carry On (Brian & Neil), Call the Midwife (Adam, Ian, Lexi) - but no political thrillers, Ambridge remains Brexit-free. Nitpick here!

Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to Bucking Frolics and LillianGish for the title ideas, which I had to edit down a bit to get under the character limit.

I wonder if Lily will have gone back to Manchester by the time we've filled this thread.

Whilst I don't think it's parting the story line, there have been incidences of new estates with an affordable housing allocation having different terms for the residents. The children in the affordable homes not being allowed to play on the grassy areas and often having people using separate entrances.

Emma does help out with the fete amongst other things but babysitting for your friends, getting people to do karate because you want to go and need enough people for a class, and getting onto the parish council because you want a house, definitely aren't examples of it.

MrsGrindah · 09/09/2019 19:06

I really wish the intern who writes the plot summaries on IPlayer would get their worked checked. On Friday “ Will puts his foot down “ and then on Monday..guess what? Yep Ian puts his foot down...At least nobody if looking to the future....

MrsGrindah · 09/09/2019 19:08

And Joy can bugger off as well. Ridiculous accent and ridiculous, unnecessary character.Suppose she’s supposed to be hilarious

MrsGrindah · 09/09/2019 19:11

See I know she’s supposed to be a boring self centred chatterbox ...but haven’t the SWs understood that it’s as boring for the listeners as it is for the characters

OwnerofanAngryCat · 09/09/2019 19:11

Well, that was hilarious.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 09/09/2019 19:12

WTF Was That Shock

newtlover · 09/09/2019 19:12

hahaha Jennifer! she thinks she owns Lexi !!!

newtlover · 09/09/2019 19:15

how is she not giving her a slap round the face??

MrsGrindah · 09/09/2019 19:18

Why on earth would she be “ worried” just because Lexi is staying somewhere else? If she thought it was a sign that Lexi is having second thoughts surely she’d go to Adam first?

MrsGrindah · 09/09/2019 19:18

Tonight’s episode was utter bilge.

MikeUniformMike · 09/09/2019 19:23

Lynda and Kirsty were Ok.
Can we have Joy added to Pip's hit list please.

Tableclothing · 09/09/2019 19:59

Where would we be without the Thick Geordie type, eh? Hmm

(also: if that actor is actually from Shieldfield then she hasn't lived there for a very long time)

birdsdestiny · 09/09/2019 21:14

I first got together with dh in a flat in shieldfield. So it made me smile Smile

StationView · 09/09/2019 21:16

Can we please have a Bobby Ewing shower moment where Nigel says, "Actually, David, let's wait until the morning to take the banner down."

Usingmyindoorvoice · 09/09/2019 21:25

I just love this thread, you all do the heavy lifting, so I don’t have to listen. Flowers and Produce to you all. 💐🍏🌽
( I once won a jar of chutney at a YFC harvest supper and will forward it to the village hall so you all get fair shares)

Motoko · 09/09/2019 21:33

God, Jennifer was appalling tonight! Good job Lexi has Lynda acting as a bouncer, because Lexi is being too nice to Jennifer. She needs someone like Lynda to say what needs to be said. Jennifer really is seeing Lexi as just a walking incubator for "her" grandchild, as if she has any rights of ownership of the grandchild. She'd be one of "those" MILs people post about on here.

I noticed Joy went round the back of Kirstie's house (the sound of the sliding patio doors that away) instead of knocking at the front door. I wonder if that's going to come up at some point. Perhaps with an "amusing" scene of Kirstie or Philip wandering around in their underwear when Joy taps on the glass?

Motoko · 09/09/2019 21:35

Argh, GAVE that away. I even proofread it!

R4 · 09/09/2019 21:50

I have no words. That must be the worst episode ever.

MikeUniformMike · 09/09/2019 22:07

Shall we complain?
Bring back the TA we know and love.
No Joy, No Vince...
Just The Archers, Aldridges, Grundys, Tuckers, Snells, Carters, Kirsty, Oliver, Harrison, The Vicar, and Jazzer.

MikeUniformMike · 09/09/2019 22:24

and we can still have Leonard as long as Jill doesn't giggle.

Travelledtheworld · 09/09/2019 22:49

I haven't been able to listen to an entire episode for weeks, it's so appalling.

MargueritaBlue · 09/09/2019 23:21

And Joy can bugger off as well. Ridiculous accent and ridiculous, unnecessary character.Suppose she’s supposed to be hilarious*

She's awful.

I don't know much (anything really) about English local government but does a parish council have any power?

And presumably the use of common areas within a new development is controlled by the title conditions the developer puts on.

EBearhug · 10/09/2019 01:06

Wasn't there quite a bit of discussion about what parish councils can and can't do when Emma was getting elected? Possibly along the lines of, "don't the SWs ever do any research?" but I could be confusing it with nearly every other storyline there...

LillianGish · 10/09/2019 06:52

That must be the worst episode ever Indeed. And Joy must be the worst character ever to be given voice. It’s enough to make you long for the return of HWMNBN. At least he was a Brummie so his appearance in Ambridge made some sense. How long before Joy can call in at Trowell Services on the way back north and meet the same fate as Heatherpet? I’m counting the days.

chemenger · 10/09/2019 07:21

I am praying for faulty workmanship in Joy’s new house to result in a fatal gas explosion. If Rochelle makes an appearance I think that will be it for me. Why introduce new characters when there are so many story lines already?
