Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Archers Thanks to @QuaterMiss for the title of this thread. For reasons of space had to cut out the bit speculating about Oliver and Tracy pairing off. Surely not! Shock

Off now to give blood, something nobody in Ambridge ever does. Hmm See you all later.

It might well be, but I don't remember any reference. What is Lillian's role called? - it might give us a confirmatory clue. And Peggoi seemed to take only a day or two to change the conditions for eligibility..

If it's a charitable trust the tax rules are more complex I think.

MargueritaBlue · 25/08/2019 17:37

I thought it was registered with teh charity commission?

I don't recall that being mentioned. It isn't operating as a charity. It's basically just a competition

Motoko · 25/08/2019 17:43

I'm pretty sure I heard Peggy saying it was a charitable trust, earlier in the SL, that's why the discussion came up about it's legality, several threads ago. Then Emma persuaded her to open it up to everybody, so maybe the SW do read this thread!

Motoko · 25/08/2019 17:46

Mere We heard snippets of Brookfield's and Rex & Co's pitches, but there were also discussions between other characters.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/08/2019 19:31

Peggy stated very definitely that she was setting up a charitable trust.

(I thought it was bollocks at the time, mind, but that is what she said.)

MadameButterface · 25/08/2019 19:48

Ohhhh good the SWs have remembered Hannah exists and is an appalling human

yay

Motoko · 25/08/2019 19:59

She was really venomous tonight. I wonder if she'll cause problems at work? Put in complaints about him, or leave and take him to an industrial tribunal, citing constructive dismissal, or something.

Motoko · 25/08/2019 20:02

Oh, and even if Emma didn't get the house originally, as there was someone higher up the waiting list, they'd have been offered it first, so she still wouldn't have got it. Ergo, it's not Emma's fault at all.

MikeUniformMike · 25/08/2019 20:46

Does Hannah have any redeeming features?

Motoko · 25/08/2019 21:32

Not that I'm aware of.

R4 · 25/08/2019 21:33

Hannah is ridiculously written. Who is that rude to their boss?

R4 · 25/08/2019 22:00

No1 is being refurbished for Eddie & Clarrie so where are Hannah and Jonneh living now? I can believe that Jonneh is back at Bridge Farm. But Hannah ...?

Minimammoth · 25/08/2019 22:21

She’s inwith TomnTash😂😂

Minimammoth · 25/08/2019 22:21

Am being flippant

5000FlapjacksofJillArcher · 25/08/2019 23:16

Hannah really is repellent. And then to get all self-righteous and tell Neil off for bothering her about it at work - urrgh.

QuaterMiss · 25/08/2019 23:31

And anyway, she’s wrong - it was deeply unprofessional of her to deliberately pick an unprovoked fight with a close relative of her boss and escalate it to the point where their working relationship becomes uncomfortable. (At least, that’s what I’d say if I were representing Neil.)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/08/2019 23:34

And she is wrong about Neil trying to influence Justin, too. He didn't. For some reason the scriptwriter thought that Susan telling him he ought to was the same thing as him doing it, and also that Hannah was entitled to think he was not allowed to talk to someone (Lilian) he had known since before Hannah was born.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/08/2019 07:53

Hannah is loathsome. This annoys me, because during her first brief period in Ambridge, many years ago, she was lovely and I hoped she would stay.

I'm going through one of those periods with TA at the moment where I listen (because I can't not listen) but not much is going in.

When did we last hear anything from or even about LL? Ridiculous lack of balance not to have it even mentioned.

OP posts:
HatsCatsandBrats · 26/08/2019 08:04

I think it's known that Neil did not influence Justin, it's only Hannah that thinks that.

It would be wonderful if at some point Justin overheard that she believed him to be so easily influenced by Neil and found a way to get rid of her.

LillianGish · 26/08/2019 08:59

Ludicrous episode - from the Carry On Ambridge opening with Neil and Brian (“It appears I may have been a little premature”) to the manufactured spat between Neil and Hannah at work. While I can just about imagined that Hannah might have muttered an unsympathetic aside in the shop under her breath or launched into a full blown moan when she thought Emma and Neil were out of earshot it stretches credulity that she would have let rip to such an extent in front of her boss much less that he would have pursued her into work on his day off to revive the exchange. Especially since Hannah has been absent for weeks - not so much as a peep or a mention. It feels as though the SWs have been given an instruction which reads “Engineer a row between Neil and Hannah which puts his job in peril” and decided to enact in in half an episode - their idea of subtlety being to give Neil a role in a “comedy” scene earlier on the throw us off the scent. Give me strength...

HatsCatsandBrats · 26/08/2019 09:02

Also, WHY does abrasive, lonely singleton Hannah think she would be eligible for a FAMILY home? Really hope someone points that out to her.

Who shall I have deliver this nugget in my daydream archers?
Susan? She can do good nasty.
Tom? He wouldn't, but it would rub some salt in.
Justin? (mid very HR cautious bollocking.)

MrsGrindah · 26/08/2019 09:04

I have always been Team Hannah rather than Team Emma but in that episode I think they made Hannah over the top in her nastiness. I felt sorry for Emma apologising to her like that - must have added to the humiliation.

Eastie77 · 26/08/2019 09:07

Did Emma ever give Will back the £3k(?) he donated to the Save Beechwood House fund?

C8H10N4O2 · 26/08/2019 10:03

Does Hannah have any redeeming features?

No. She is one of the cardboard characters whose role seems solely to be vile. Tedious and utterly predictable character, I find my attention drifting every time she appears.

After all the drivel over the fake charitable trust if we now have to go through drahma at the piggeries I may take a sabbatical.

ppeatfruit · 26/08/2019 10:19

It's getting worse , it'll be called Carry On Up the Am soon, the 'comedy' is heavy handed and the 'drama' is ridiculous. Sad
