Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Archers Thanks to @MrsGrindah for inspiration for the title of this thread. I was hoping to find a way to combine it with @C8H10N4O2's inspired suggestion of '"The Assumption of the Ambridge Angel' and @chemenger's comment 'I hope she gets kicked in the head by a horse and wakes up an atheist', but it all got a bit too lengthy.

Odds on Joe shuffling off this mortal coil before this thread ends? We've been marking/anticipating his passing for a while now.

Oh well, Jakob's bluntness and over-rationality might actually be good for Kate. Nobody else in her life ever seems to have got through to her. Not sure what J gets from it. Unless Kate is ravishingly beautiful, etc.

I have to say that Spiritual Home's offerings did actually sound rather attractive. So perhaps there is a more sensible woman in Kate somewhere.

Tonnerre · 12/08/2019 12:08

Adam always sounds exhausted because for some reason either the actor or the director thinks it's appropriate. It's difficult to work out where they're going to take it if/when he's up all night with the baby and has a genuine reason to be exhausted.

I shall be quite cross if Jakob ends up with Kate, it's wildly unlikely that someone as buttoned-up as him could put up with her irrationality, unpredictability and wholesale selfishness.

stonesand · 12/08/2019 12:17

I know it's bonkers, but I quite like the idea that Kate and Kakob could discover a odd but meaningful connection- Jakob telling Kate bluntly when she's being an arse, and Kate supporting/embracing Jakob in all his quirkiness. Jakob at some point disclosing his autism to Kate, who then adds autism rights to her causes, and becomes a militant advocate for neurodiversity! 😊

stonesand · 12/08/2019 12:18

Jakob not Kakob!!!

Fink · 12/08/2019 12:18

Also, why does Adam always sound so utterly exhausted?

Were you just listening to John Finnemore on Loose Ends? Grin

Paintingtheroseswhite · 12/08/2019 13:23

When did Kate and Alice become so friendly. They don't like each other

QuaterMiss · 12/08/2019 13:29

Do you not have siblings, Paintingtheroseswhite? Grin

ppeatfruit · 12/08/2019 13:37

Tonnere Adam sounds tired so that his voice can be easily recognised on the radio. It's easy to have too many similar voices that are impossible to tell apart.

Sadly it's happening more recently, I've noticed, TA's seems to have lost some good producers IMO and is going down the pan.

QuaterMiss · 12/08/2019 14:09

Oh goodness - how delicious! So it’s Brian that Ruairi has inherited the mocking imitations from!

Brian doing Jenny is just a thing to cherish. Grin

Paintingtheroseswhite · 12/08/2019 14:26

Actually no @QuaterMiss so I've probably missed something there Grin

MrsGrindah · 12/08/2019 19:14

I did actually laugh tonight at Lynda’s comment re Tracey’s attire and Kenton thinking by “ going into the church “ that Shula meant popping into St Stephens!

QuaterMiss · 12/08/2019 19:15

YAY!!!!!!!!

Wine
MikeUniformMike · 12/08/2019 19:19

Poor Adam.
I think that Jakob will be good for Kate.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/08/2019 19:45

Go Tracey!

stonesand · 12/08/2019 19:49

Yay go Tracey! (And Oliver!)

Motoko · 12/08/2019 19:52

I loved hearing Lynda being told she was going to be Tracey's mentor! Lovely bit of schadenfreude. Grin

I wish Shula would speak normally. It always. sounds. like. she's. straining to. get the. words out.

Susan and Neil need to give Emma a kick, to get her out of her room. She can't be doing much parenting if she's not leaving the room, and she's not a teenager getting over her first love, she has children who need her to help them come to terms with what's happened, but she doesn't seem to have thought about them at all.

DadDadDad · 12/08/2019 20:16

Actually, I think Tracey is going to be Lynda's mentor - her tor-mentor! Grin

notmuchmoretogive · 12/08/2019 20:43

I thought Lynda was uncharacteristically unkind tonight. She is normally cutting rather than a barrage of criticism surely? But then she does think she's a cut above the rest.

A bit of a My Fair Lady plot to go with the Austen/Shakespeare story line.

echt · 12/08/2019 21:18

I look forward to Lynda and Tracey's, ahem, partnership. The impact should be considerable.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/08/2019 22:58

If it is written as well as they generally do "comedy", it will be dire.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/08/2019 23:19

I wish they wouldn't give Alice comedy lines. The actress is not up to that. The wacky scheme of getting Kate and Jakob together utterly failed to crack a smile here. I'd be incandescent to be set up like that.

Go Tracy! We'll have to keep an eye on Grey Gables' TripAdvisor reviews. Grin

I think that Jakob will be good for Kate.

I am not sure Jakob deserves Kate, though.

I am sure after some oh-so-hilarious disagreements and misunderstandings, Lynda and Tracey will gain some mutual respect and end up firm friends. But that doesn't mean we're going to enjoy the journey.

Tonnerre · 12/08/2019 23:40

Yes, my thought was that ultimately Lynda and Tracey will be friends and allies. Maybe Tracey will take over running the panto, she'd be very good at dragooning people into agreeing to take part and turning up to rehearsals on time.

MikeUniformMike · 13/08/2019 07:59

Poor Roy!

QuaterMiss · 13/08/2019 08:18

It does look as if Tracy (though I’m sure the BBC used to spell her with an ‘e’) is being installed as the new Lynda in the village, not just at GG.

Exciting. She’s a brilliant actress (with a lovely voice) who could carry powerful stories. And Tracy is so connected. Stroke of BOOP-worthy genius to join up the two extremes of village society like that.

But it’ll only really happen if they bring in some other Horrobins as sympathetic characters, not psychopaths or clowns. Brad and Chelsea must surely be into their teens and ready to be heard?

I feel hopeful now! Lynda can retire into Grandmotherdom and maybe we’ll finally hear more about Mungo.
