Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Archers Thanks to @MrsGrindah for inspiration for the title of this thread. I was hoping to find a way to combine it with @C8H10N4O2's inspired suggestion of '"The Assumption of the Ambridge Angel' and @chemenger's comment 'I hope she gets kicked in the head by a horse and wakes up an atheist', but it all got a bit too lengthy.

Odds on Joe shuffling off this mortal coil before this thread ends? We've been marking/anticipating his passing for a while now.

Go Clarrie! Grin

I actually gasped when she said, "What did Emma and Christopher think when you were inside?"

I love it when the scriptwriters prove they actually do know some of the history of TA.

MereDintofPandiculation · 09/08/2019 19:54

Good for Clarrie!

Interesting seeing the ramifications of a couple breaking up creeping across the wider community. How will Susan and Clarrie work together in the dairy after this?

UnholyStramash · 09/08/2019 21:09

Is it just me that thinks the writers/editor/somebody has forgotten that Will is George‘s father, not Ed? Several times this week there’s been reference to Ed‘s children. But he’s only father to Keira. Then tonight Susan was talking about her not wanting the children to have contact with Grundys without suggestion of Will‘s place in it all.

UnholyStramash · 09/08/2019 21:38

Another point. Why is Eddie so sure it’s okay that the chemicals have disappeared? If they’re found in his van then the police will come asking And I feel quite sorry for Emmur having Susan as her mother.

Eastie77 · 09/08/2019 21:44

unholy I mentioned on Wednesday that I find it quite bizarre that Eddie and Clarrie keep wailing that Ed’s children need their dad when he only has one child. I’m sure George is quite sad Ed and Emma have split up but he hasn’t been left fatherless! It’s so odd.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/08/2019 21:50

It did seem as if it were only Keira who was going to be disappointed about not moving into the new house, this evening. George wasn't mentioned.

MollyButton · 09/08/2019 22:58

The Van is odd too! Who was insuring it? Who has registered it with DVLA?
Its like Eddie has been driving it for months with no insurance and no log book.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/08/2019 23:59

Somehow that wouldn't surprise me, in Eddie.

ppeatfruit · 10/08/2019 08:59

That row was inevitable wasn't it? Both Clarrie and Susan had been heard being very chummy at work etc. etc. Clarrie seemed the more emotionally intelligent, she only put the boot in; referring to her friend's incarceration, after Susan had been so rude about Ed.

BuckingFrolics · 10/08/2019 09:06

Susan still doesn't know about Emma touring the village with her begging bowl, does she?

I think the shame when she finds out may result in her spontaneous combustion.

(I'd be upset if my DD didn't turn to me under Emma's circs tho.)

QuaterMiss · 10/08/2019 09:06

Its such a shame though! Each of them needs their best friend more than ever right now.

Deserves a BOOP actually.

Linseedlill · 10/08/2019 09:22

I was just coming on here to award Clarrie v Susan verbal combat a BOOP too!

I would have thought though, that Susan might try and talk to her daughter (upstairs!) on finding out about her son in law's stupidity, to sympathise with her if nothing else, before driving off to chastise him. I can understand why Emmuurr doesnt want to confide in Susan though. Could she trust her mum not to broadcast the ups and downs of her private life all over the village?

Poor Em, she isnt the most pleasant of characters at times, but she must feel like she gave her all to do her best for her family and Ed has thrown it all back in her face by breaking things off. What a coward he is! (Dare I say, a bit like his father?)

ppeatfruit · 10/08/2019 09:28

And Clarrie obviously didn't tell Susan that Emm was well aware, and encouraging about the dodgy work that was being done by Ed.

For the next bit of DRAMA dahlinng.

Linseedlill · 10/08/2019 10:12

Yes indeed, Carrie somehow held that golden nugget back for another episode! High drama indeed!

And all the more reason Ed & Emmurrr should stick together when they are both to blame!

[searches for over-infested emoticon]

birdsdestiny · 10/08/2019 10:43

Emma didn't know the half of it. She thought it was a tax dodge. She didn't know about violence, threats, chemicals stored in barn, etc.

Linseedlill · 10/08/2019 11:25

That's very true Birds destiny but iirc (and I may not have as I usually drift off to sleep listening to TAs!) she didn't seem very keen to find out more or investigate further.

ppeatfruit · 10/08/2019 11:45

She didn't stop him when he wanted to stop. She has been obsessed with getting the house against all reason. It's not as if they were living in a slum, or a caravan, she 'd miss the childcare on tap when they eventually moved in the house.

birdsdestiny · 10/08/2019 12:29

He's a grown man. He could have said there is violence etc. If I was living with the grundies I would do anything to get my children out of there.

birdsdestiny · 10/08/2019 12:30

And I would try and persuade Clarrie to leave too Grin

PastelPotential · 10/08/2019 12:38

Didn't Ed tell Emma he wanted to stop because he was 'tired', and she pointed out she was also tired on account of having 3 jobs plus childbearing responsibilities.

Tonnerre · 10/08/2019 12:41

I'm sure Emma does feel she was working her socks off for the sake of her family, but with hindsight it was all a bit extreme - for the last few years that's been close to her entire focus. Ed had a point about her closing her eyes to the stress he was under dealing with Tim and his dodgy mates because she was so fixated on furniture. It's been noticeable that, for instance, all we have seen of her parish councillor duties has been when she's made a fuss about stuff that affects her and her family personally, and her impassioned promotion of the planning application was primarily focussed on what it would do for her housing situation. Her spite around people she perceives to be better off than her is also unattractive.

It would be good if she would tell Susan that the split wasn't all Ed's fault, and it may well be that that is the only way to repair the current situation.

MereDintofPandiculation · 10/08/2019 13:33

She didn't stop him when he wanted to stop. Not only did she not stop him, she discouraged him by pointing out that they needed the money.

You can probably tell I'm not an Emma fan.

MollyButton · 10/08/2019 15:15

And Ed said when he finished it that he'd come bal late one night absolutely frightened and she had just whittered away about the house and furniture. She hadn't even noticed that he was upset or offered him support.

Personaaly I think Ed and Emma will be back together eventually but Emma has a journey to get there. Which may involve her getting closer to Will. But will eventually have her choosing love and partnership with Ed over material possessions with Will.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/08/2019 15:20

I also think Ed and Emma will get back together.

birdsdestiny · 10/08/2019 16:58

I hope not. Then her life will be like Clarries.
