Thread #106: Jim’s in a jam, Peggy’s made a pickle and Lexi is blooming - sounds like the entries are lining up for this year’s flower and produce show, but who will be on the organising committee?

Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Archers Thanks to LillianGish for the title of this thread.

Holding episode tonight, I thought - not much progress on any current storyline. I was a touch surprised Natasha wasn't offended by the postnup idea but I suspect she's biding her time.

Last night's was the most boring episode I've listened to in a long time. I might be giving up again, on the grounds of yawning too much to be able to hear it.
Which somehow reminds me, I realize JazzersMaw must be our Scottish hero's beloved mother, but every time I see it, I think of a wide open mouth Grin

MrsGrindah · 22/07/2019 19:11

I hope she gets kicked in the head by a horse and wakes up an atheist

That made me laugh so much!

MrsGrindah · 22/07/2019 19:12

Wow Jill was very nasty then

HatingTheBigShow · 22/07/2019 19:27

I know we're meant to think she's lovely on account of all the baking and wife-work but she's as nasty an old boot as Peggy. She was only embarrassed at Leonard thinking badly of her and not remotely sorry for what she said.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 22/07/2019 19:36

It's quite plain to see where Pip gets it from Hmm

EBearhug · 22/07/2019 19:52

Ambridge microclimate matches actual weather shock!

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/07/2019 19:53

I missed what she was complaining about but she did sound nasty.

Motoko · 22/07/2019 19:55

Yes, she was rather nasty. It wasn't Jazzer's fault, and she even ignored Leonard asking her to leave it. She's lucky Jazzer didn't give her more of a mouthful. She's only sorry about embarrassing Leonard, where's her pity for Jazzer having to to do Jim's "dirty work" (in her eyes) and making excuses for Jim?

Boop for Pat tonight! It's about time someone said something to Tom.

Also, how can Tom be so confident that he's got the best plan for Peggy's scheme, when he doesn't know what other people have planned?

BertrandRussell · 22/07/2019 19:56

Aaaaand another character transplant! That was weird of Jill.

EBearhug · 22/07/2019 19:57

Agree Jill was nasty, and I think until his party was actually pretty reliable - unlike Jim's erstwhile daughter-in-law, Jill hasn't seemed to wonder if anything might be wrong. I foresee a disagreement between Jill & Shula in the offing, in which Shula can't actually tell Jill what's going on, so Jill continues to think Jim's being unreasonable for no reason.

Motoko · 22/07/2019 19:57

Captain she took over Jim's shift at the shop, meaning her date that morning with Leonard was cancelled, but Leonard turned up at the shop anyway, and kept her company, until they went to lunch.

EBearhug · 22/07/2019 20:00

I also predict (thanks to continuity announcer comments and Pat having a go at Tom - which he deserved) that this is the week that Rex will give up being a cabbie in favour of porcine enterprises.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/07/2019 20:04

Thanks Motoko.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 22/07/2019 20:14

Where is Alistair living these days?

Did he actually move into the swanky riverside apartment?

MrsGrindah · 22/07/2019 20:18

He stayed put to support Jim

MrsGrindah · 22/07/2019 20:19

It annoyed me that Leonard told Jazzer off for being rude. Poor Jazzer

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/07/2019 20:25

I don't know how I missed all of that, I must have been distracted.

LassOfFyvie · 22/07/2019 21:27

I really don't like Jill. She can't really be so stupid not to realise there must be something serious. Such a contrast with Lynda's reaction.

birdsdestiny · 22/07/2019 21:51

I have never been that keen on Jill. However it pales into insignificance compared to how I feel about Tom. What a business brain that man has, it's astounding he hasn't been headhunted.

Notcopingwellhere · 22/07/2019 22:12

I have been shocked at how rude Tom has been about the Grundies recently. Really snobbish, vicious stuff. When you think how many years Clarrie has put in at Bridge Farm he really is a nasty little git. He’d better not cry crocodile tears when Joe dies.

R4 · 22/07/2019 22:35

It would serve Jill right if Leonard's red-flag-o-meter goes off and he decides to dump her before she starts nitpicking at him for not being Practically Perfect In Every Way.
There again, if Jim hadn't been such a bad tempered grump all these years then people might be cutting him some more slack.

R4 · 22/07/2019 23:11

Actually, Leonard has already got away with being not PPIEW so he may be on safe ground. His lying about painting was forgiven with a girlish giggle [vom] at the same time that Jill was ranting about some fairly minor fib of Toby's.

Isatis · 23/07/2019 09:15

I thought it was distinctly off for Leonard to tell Jazzer not to be rude when Jill was being much ruder. And YY for the fact that she had no regrets about that, only the possibility that she'd embarrassed Leonard.

BertrandRussell · 23/07/2019 09:18

Tom is just a vile human being I every way. He is always awful to Johnny.

C8H10N4O2 · 23/07/2019 09:26

I really don't like Jill. She can't really be so stupid not to realise there must be something serious. Such a contrast with Lynda's reaction

I don't dislike Jill but she certainly has her unlikeable moments. Her utter inability to see David'n'Pip as anything less than perfect and her inconsistency in her niceness are pretty grating at times.

Her treatment of both Lynda and Jim is often quite unpleasant - she rarely has a good word to say about them whatever they do. I always assumed she just considered them to be outsiders.

Lynda was the person I thought most likely to become Jim's confidante. She has a much stronger track record of disinterested help to the outsiders and troubled in TA, possibly because she receives some of the same treatment. She also has a better track record on keeping her mouth shut.
