Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Archers Thanks to LillianGish for the title of this thread.

Holding episode tonight, I thought - not much progress on any current storyline. I was a touch surprised Natasha wasn't offended by the postnup idea but I suspect she's biding her time.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 03/07/2019 14:23

I simply cannot believe that Josh would ever lend Ben his car Hmm What could possibly go wrong.....

I wonder if the SW gets a bonus every time he/she manages to shoehorn the word 'Natasha' into the dialogue?

It's ridiculous - and very irritating - how often her name is used. Surely we all recognise her voice by now!

Also, it struck me that the mention of Rosie not walking yet might be hinting at an upcoming storyline.

Rosie having a hitherto unsuspected 'problem' of some kind, maybe?

Minimammoth · 03/07/2019 14:25

Bit late to the party, but joining in the Rosie speculation. I don’t think there has ever been a mention of slow at walking for any Archer child.

BertrandRussell · 03/07/2019 14:30

Should Rosie be walking yet? She’s not one yet, is she? And she’s not a Mumsnet baby!

And how are all these cars being insured for Ben to drive?

ErrolTheDragon · 03/07/2019 15:21

Should Rosie be walking yet? She’s not one yet, is she?

No 'should' about it for a not-quite one yr old. Just a perfectly reasonable subject to discuss in relation to a baby that age, that she might be walking soon or whatever it was that was said.

It struck me more as a reminder to listeners what stage Rosie was at, given that (like all babies not one's own, imo) she's about twice as old now as I feel she should be Grin

Motoko · 03/07/2019 15:38

Yes, it's easy to forget how old the children are, unless a birthday or milestone is mentioned, especially with the under 10s, with their babyish voices.

I think the majority of children don't start walking until after their first birthday. When my eldest started walking at 10 months, it was considered very early. My other two were a few months later, with one walking at about 13/14 months, and the other at around 16/17 months.

Paintingtheroseswhite · 03/07/2019 15:45

Emma does have a bag of chips on her shoulder and was snippy talking to Peggy.......but.... Emma is a Parish Councillor and would probably be well within her rights to mention to Peggy about the wider village if the fund is really for the benefit of Ambridge as a whole

MrsGrindah · 03/07/2019 17:35

Painting I’d agree if she hadn’t said “MeanEd work hard etc” ..I really hope SWs don’t think that will generate any sympathy. It would have been a better storyline if every one of Peggy’s family gradually tells her where she can stick her money.

5000FlapjacksofJillArcher · 03/07/2019 18:45

Yes, Emma doesn't know about the chemicals stored in the barn. But remind me - didn't she know that the 'job' Tim was offering Ed involved some sort of dodgy 'stuff without licences'? And was fine with him doing it anyway, because it meant more money for the dream house?

Frankly I don't think Emma's ever been particularly concerned about the environment.

Motoko · 03/07/2019 19:23

You're quite right 5000, it's because of her, that Ed is now in the tricky situation that he is. But, she probably hasn't even thought through the reasons of why there are no licenses, nor how it could be connected to the environment. She is quite uneducated, because of course, all working class people are.

Motoko · 03/07/2019 19:31

Shula was annoying again tonight. Alistair KNOWS she's there if he needs to talk, but of course, she had to go round again. Did it sound to others, like Alistair has told her why Jim ran away? I didn't think he had, but it sounded like she knew the reason. (Although, my husband did come in at that point to ask me something, so I might have misheard it.)

The SW haven't decided what Phoebe's going to do now.

Alistair needs to ask Susan to take Jim off the shop rota for a while. He's not in a fit state to be working, and it's not fair on the other volunteers, to be let down with no warning.

5000FlapjacksofJillArcher · 03/07/2019 19:51

That isn't what I'm saying at all, Motoko

MikeUniformMike · 03/07/2019 19:56

I can't believe that Phoebe doesn't know what she wants to do. She's going to stay in Ambridge.

TheSilveryPussycat · 03/07/2019 20:02

I don't think Alistair has told Shula the specifics. I imagine Alan's account of what happened in the shop alarmed her, and she felt she should offer to help. After all, it was she who persuaded Jim to open up to Alistai in the first place.

I expected Alistair to say it was Shula at the door. I would have thought Jim would at least have wanted to know who it was. Seems like Alistair is tired of his ex butting in, although they had discussed Jim after the party.

Why didn't Peggy want to tell Pheobe that the clean house was down to Emma?

TheSilveryPussycat · 03/07/2019 20:04

I mean Why did Peggy let Pheobe think her mother was responsible for the state of the bungalow?

echt · 03/07/2019 21:51

I mean Why did Peggy let Pheobe think her mother was responsible for the state of the bungalow?

So much of what happens in TA is based on lies/deceptions/people flouncing out of rooms/refusing to discuss things. I know it's fiction but it's an aspect I find a bit boring when it's about trivial matters. Possibly Peggy doesn't want to reveal to Phoebe how useless Kate is, or more likely her mistake in sacking Emma and having to re-hire her.

birdsdestiny · 03/07/2019 22:36

Surely Peggy doesn't think that Phoebe is unaware of how useless Kate is. In real life Kates uselessness would have defined Phoebes life. It's a minor miracle Phoebe is able to function at all let alone be an Oxford graduate.

TheSilveryPussycat · 03/07/2019 22:40

She did have her father and Hayley for most of her childhood, didn't she? And her grandparents.

DadDadDad · 03/07/2019 23:09

Talking of Phoebe, have a guess where I was today. I've chopped off most of the lower word in the picture - I wouldn't want to make it too easy. Smile

Thread #106: Jim’s in a jam, Peggy’s made a pickle and Lexi is blooming - sounds like the entries are lining up for this year’s flower and produce show, but who will be on the organising committee?
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/07/2019 23:43

Emma is the Stealth Cleaner of Ambridge! Toby didn't tell Pip that Emma was the one who had cleared up and cleaned at Rickyard Cottage, either.

Motoko · 04/07/2019 00:16

5000 I wasn't saying that you think the working classes are all uneducated, but the SWs certainly seem to.

echt · 04/07/2019 04:43

Surely Peggy doesn't think that Phoebe is unaware of how useless Kate is

I should have gone :o I was being ironic.

BuckingFrolics · 04/07/2019 07:34

SW, please please be more creative than this all too frequent exchange.

Shula: can I just say ...
A N Other : no please don't
Shula: sorry grovel for intruding but can I just say blah blah blah
A N Other: ok you've said it
Shula: I just wanted you to know that (blindingly obvious) thing. I'll creep away now feeling saintly.

DoctorTwo · 04/07/2019 07:35

What if interest rates go up?

They won't. They can't, as you can never taper a Ponzi scheme.

Motoko · 04/07/2019 07:48

The only thing wrong with that Bucking, is you forgot the gaps between the words on the first line. It's more likely to go:
Shula:(in a strained voice) Can....I....just...say?

And even when she heard Jim calling Alistair, instead of letting him go immediately, she still kept going on, so Jim had to call Alistair again.

@DoctorTwo Did you mean to post that on another thread?

Motoko · 04/07/2019 07:50

Ooh, didn't mean to put a sad face there!
