Yes, of course, you're right!
And I also agree that there's no glamour in the law. My colleagues and I are more Columbo types.

chatnicknameyousuggested · 10/05/2019 08:16

Just asked a colleague: he immediately replied that the main court case people "know" is the American Roe vs Wade, which is why everyone presumes that's the same everwhere.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 10/05/2019 08:24

Just remembered - whoever mentioned the Hauser & Wirth aspirations at LL, yes, indeed - but forget that, Lynda is headed to Venice.

Can any of you legal pedants tell us what chance Jazzer’s case has with an amateur defending him? Would he not be able to find a proper lawyer to take him on on a no win no fee basis? (I’m loving the debate actually - I love the fact that there is so much expertise on this thread. No reference in any sphere can go unchallenged - the SWs have no chance Grin)

MuffingtonClay · 10/05/2019 08:47

Ha ha no idea about the actual law of the case! Employment is pretty specialist and not my area at all. Thanks goodness, I’d probably explode if they do get into the technicalities of whether B Farm is or isn’t liable. No win no fee is most prevalent in personal injury but there probably are employment firms who do it, not sure how common it is. (Jim’s not defending Jazzer btw, Jazzer is the Claimant).

LassOfFyvie · 10/05/2019 08:49

particularly because Americans do say “versus” so anyone using that just sounds like they have watched too much Good Wife and judges absolutely hate it

Or be qualified in another jurisdiction other than England, Maybe you are unaware that Scots law is different from English law.

MuffingtonClay · 10/05/2019 08:54

No, I’m well aware of that LassofFyvie. In fact I spend a lot of time in my job berating people who refer to “U.K. law”. No need to be so confrontational!

FinallyHere · 10/05/2019 09:19

I do hope he doesn't go no win no fee

Their fees tend to be higher to cover any cases that are lost

chatnicknameyousuggested · 10/05/2019 09:23

I have never practised employment law, and am not in the UK. However my learned opinion is that J and J have no chance. It's another "comic" storyline.

ppeatfruit · 10/05/2019 09:37

Bloody 'ell you lot I'm out of my depth here, I will join the lower orders who DON"T like rich blue cheese , belly ache on a plate for me Grin

Though one would hope that the new Borsetshire Blue 'calms' its flavour a bit (unlikely because of course, the older a cheese gets the stronger it's flavour) there are more vegans and people who prefer mild cheese about everywhere I would've thought.

MuffingtonClay · 10/05/2019 09:38

I’m not so sure that they should play it for laughs. Who knows if that is the plan?

Jazzer was treated badly by Tom and I think it would be a good way to raise awareness of employment rights, or lack of.

Jim should try to engage the BF lot in amicable discussions and appeal to their sense of fairness, rather than go in aggressively and quoting legal authorities left right and centre. That should be a tacit threat not an explicit one.

R4 · 10/05/2019 09:39

The legal watertightness of the case isn't the be-all and end-all. In business it's often about which side is willing/able to risk the legal costs involved, and who blinks first.

ppeatfruit · 10/05/2019 09:39

You know I was right about Helen , her first impulse is to `lie' about everyeffing thing , including her brother's relationships Shock

myidentitymycrisis · 10/05/2019 09:46

I’m a lurker on here, just thought I’d say hello 👋. I’ve been listening for a long time - on and off - pretty solidly the last two decades and some.

I’m currently looking forward to EdnEmma losing the house and perhaps it’s time for a teenage pregnancy- Mia and Ruari?

BertrandRussell · 10/05/2019 09:48

“You know I was right about Helen , her first impulse is to `lie' about everyeffing thing , including her brother's relationships”

But she would have been wrong to tell Pat, surely? That should be Tom’s decision.

GabrielleNelson · 10/05/2019 09:48

I'm a classicist (a long time ago) and I don't see much overlap with Law except for those who studied Roman Law. Jim would know that criminal court cases are normally listed as R v McCreary or similar and would naturally translate v to versus because he loves using his Latin to intimidate non-Latinists. That's my view, anyway, FWIW!

Of course the repeat used to be 1.45-2pm followed by Woman's Hour. Very civilised. I think the idea was that SAHMs would do all their chores in the morning and then listen to TA while washing up the lunch dishes, followed by a well deserved sitdown listening to WH, then off to school to pick up the kids at 3. There was a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth when WH moved to the morning, I vaguely recall.

R4 · 10/05/2019 09:48

Now that Greenacres have shown their hand, will the landlords (Bridge Farm) put pressure on The Tea Shop to bar Jazzer from the premises?
Fallon will be distraught. Not.

BertrandRussell · 10/05/2019 09:49

“Jazzer was treated badly by Tom and I think it would be a good way to raise awareness of employment rights, or lack of”

I agree.

ppeatfruit · 10/05/2019 09:54

myidentity I'm not looking forward to Ed losing his liberty.

LillianGish · 10/05/2019 10:05

looking forward to EdnEmma losing the house Shock - I hope that was a slip of the tongue and that you mean you are anticipating such a storyline rather than actually wishing it on them. I agree with you that this is what will almost certainly happen, but I'm certainly not looking forward to it Sad

GabrielleNelson · 10/05/2019 10:10

I don't want Ed and Emma to lose the house. I want Tim to be caught in flagrante in a way that doesn't in any way implicate Ed either to Tim and his murky associates or to the police.

ppeatfruit · 10/05/2019 10:13

Yes Gabrielle I agree.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/05/2019 10:14

Hello myidentitymycrisis, welcome!

The 🔮 says that Ruaruariii and Mia are destined to be together but not for some time yet. I don't think they will go down the teenage pregnancy s/l with those two. Not least because Will would most definitely go after R with his shotgun.

On the Ed'n'Em home front it's not saying anything. I do fear Ed will end up in prison though.

R4 · 10/05/2019 10:24

Wouldn't it be nice if Tim gets banged up and, in his enforced absence, Ed picks up all his fencing and odd-jobbing trade.
It's not going to happen, though.Sad

birdsdestiny · 10/05/2019 10:34

I agree I think Ed will end up in prison. Compare and contrast with Brian.
