Archers

We're still here and still discussing TA (The Archers). We welcome newcomers and old hands, so if you have a question or a point of view, please dive in. No spoilers - if you've seen info on future storylines, there's a separate Radio Addicts thread for that.

I loved all the name changes on the last thread. Don't forget to change back! (If you want to).

Who's going to get Russ out of LL? Freddie? Lily? Elizabeth? Or is it Freddie who will head off?

The fates (and the 🔮) have fore told that Ruaruarauariii and Mia are indeed destined to end up together, but not before a lot of water has flowed under the (Am) bridge.

If the SWs have indeed decided to go with an autism sl, I they will probably be modelling Jacob on Temple Grandin. Expect to hear about his amazing rapport with animals before long.

OTOH, he may just be a rude, truculent arse, intended to make Alistair realise he's made a huge mistake.

Keri Davies has said on Twitter that he hates it when men say they are babysitting their own children and that's why he made Toby say it.

grumiosmum · 04/04/2019 07:30

Acis I haven't searched anything about that though?

Although I get a fair few Brexit posts on my Facebook page & may have retweeted one or 2 news articles around the various votes that have been happening.

Maybe the algorithm picked up on my use of "half-German". Big Brother is definitely watching.

thislido · 04/04/2019 08:43

DumDeDum I get the live-in carer ads too. I'm not yet 40 and haven't had cause to seek care for anyone else. Although I wouldn't say no to a carer this week, but ideally not live-in. Roll on Friday.

Mostly I get the tea advert which suggests the algorithm is doing something right. Making tea would be the carer's main job.

Acis · 04/04/2019 10:43

It's not always what you search. At the moment I'm getting Ads for Excel, Easter eggs, and tea, none of which I searched for, and I get those regardless of which thread I'm on. However, I know from bitter experience that if I were to click on a link to the dreaded penguin bollards they'd haunt me for ages. And that time I clicked on a link to a total fashion monstrosity that someone posted for a laugh, the algorithm clearly decided I was wholly lacking in taste and kept treating me to the most hideous clothes and shoes I have ever seen.

chemenger · 04/04/2019 17:06

I currently have an ad for a DIY store in Spanish coming up regularly. And Crate and Barrel Wedding registry (don't speak Spanish, live in a rented apartment with no need for DIY and married for 20+ years). Oh and US tax refund advice (I don't pay tax here).

DadDadDad · 04/04/2019 17:21

Ruling for the rest of this thread: if you want to tell us what ad you are currently seeing, fine, but please also include an Archers-related comment in your post to keep us on topic.

Following on from Keri Davies's tweet, pick a character from TA and suggest the most annoying / shocking thing you could imagine them saying (but still believable for their character)?

OP posts:
grumiosmum · 04/04/2019 17:43

It's definitely related to what thread you are looking at on MN because I was just reading the one about grubby tenants (didn't post on it) and then a tenancy related ad popped up. No other possible explanation.

My Archers-related comment is that we have some rather nice vodka made from milk, called Brown Cow or something - so Toby's idea of making gin from whey isn't all that left field.

MadameButterface · 04/04/2019 17:51

Keri Davies has said on Twitter that he hates it when men say they are babysitting their own children and that's why he made Toby say it.

in case anyone was wondering if it was possible for mr keri to be any more wholesome than he already is - no, no it is not.

chemenger · 04/04/2019 18:00

On Archers - I roll my eyes at Toby's casual assertion that he will make gin from whey by distilling it. He needs to ferment it first. Mind you I've just glanced at a couple of articles about whey spirits and they are full of the sort of clap-trap Toby would spout. Clearly the writers ignored my helpful tutorials of gin making a couple of threads back. Helen put him down spectacularly well though.

chemenger · 04/04/2019 18:02

So, DDD, the most annoying thing I can imagine Toby saying is "taste my gin, I distilled it from whey". Because that would be water.

BuckingFrolics · 04/04/2019 18:05

"No mar, yourr wrohng, Mia's gunner be someone's wife ahnd be a marm erself one day and it ain't wrahng for er to be learning those things now"

chemenger · 04/04/2019 18:10

Just to be clear, competent people can make alcohol from whey, with lactose tolerant yeast and the right conditions and the right equipment. Everyone seems to agree its tricky. It's a reasonable way of dealing with a tricky waste stream but what does Bridge farm do with the whey now? Do they feed it to Tom's pigs, for example? In which case it has value, that Toby will have to beat.

MikeUniformMike · 04/04/2019 18:23

The pigs won't be around for long. They'll be replaced by orchards.

BertrandRussell · 04/04/2019 18:56

Can you make gin out of pork?

BertrandRussell · 04/04/2019 18:57

Bacon gin?

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/04/2019 19:10

Ha! See? Brilliant rapport with animals.

Ambridge's very own Temple Grandin.

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/04/2019 19:22

Well done Jim! Expressing exactly what I feel. Though I don't think I'd be quite as rude as to tell her unasked - or did she say something to trigger that? (I was filling the dishwasher at the time so my mind wasn't wholly on the radio).

GeorgeTheBleeder · 04/04/2019 19:24

Has Freddie fallen in love?

With veterinary practice ...

A'Level re-takes, Felpersham Uni, Borcetshire his oyster ... (Would youth badness be a barrier?) Would be lovely if, in the future, he could attend to Johnny's stock.

Motoko · 04/04/2019 19:28

Nice one Jim! I did enjoy him telling Shula that he doesn't have to be polite about her faith, now she's no longer married to Alistair. I also liked his observation that she was doing penance for being a hypocrite.

And Alistair not giving her the answer she wanted when she asked him if he thought she was a hypocrite.

Very satisfying.

2stepsonthewater · 04/04/2019 19:29

Anyone listening to Front Row? OMG the presenter sounds like Alan Partridge's co-presenter on This Time! Let's sound very bright and nice and over emphasize every word!

Motoko · 04/04/2019 19:30

Mere she started asking him about her art project for the church. I think she wanted him to help somehow? But he cut her off.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 04/04/2019 19:32

Yes, I've noticed Front Row becoming more CBeebies lately. And all of R3. Angry

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 04/04/2019 19:37

Yo, Jim! and Alisdair!!! in your FACE, Smugula.
