Archers

We're still here and still discussing TA (The Archers). We welcome newcomers and old hands, so if you have a question or a point of view, please dive in. No spoilers - if you've seen info on future storylines, there's a separate Radio Addicts thread for that.

I loved all the name changes on the last thread. Don't forget to change back! (If you want to).

Who's going to get Russ out of LL? Freddie? Lily? Elizabeth? Or is it Freddie who will head off?

Thank you for the new thread DadDadDad. I’m not going to change back. I wondered whether you’d given up TA for Lent again but can see you haven’t this year.

Did anyone go to the Academic Archers conference this year? Was it at half term as in the past?

CMRuss is creepy. I hope he leaves poor Elizabeth alone & goes back to wherever he came from, leaving Lily free to go back to Manchester able to start afresh next autumn.

I believe it comes from referring to a person with a large forehead as a spamhead, thus giving you are generous surface area on which to spam. Starting to wish I was joking. I've found one mention of it here forums.doyouremember.co.uk/threads/9852-quot-neck-backs-quot-and-quot-spam-quot altough I don't know about any of this neck business. This forum recalls a time a little before my spamming days but I had assumed it common thing as I was aware of it a three different schools, in different areas of the country.
I rather wish I had a better specialist subject but here we are.

DadDadDad · 23/03/2019 22:32

Lizzies - you have a long memory: it must four or five years ago that I gave up MN for Lent!

I agree about CMR being creepy. I think if you saw his words written down it would be hard to fault them - eg words of support and encouragement for Elizabeth. But there's something in his voice or delivery that conveys a superiority, as if he wants you to know how emotionally sophisticated he is, that he is rather pleased with his own fine appreciation of the world. (Or am I reading too much into it?)

WRT CMR.... smarmy comes to mind

DadDadDad · 23/03/2019 23:49

On the milestone discussion thread, I've just posted a list of every poster who took part in thread 100, just to capture all those witty Archer-related name-changes.

Averting my eyes as I need to catch up a few episodes ... thanks for the new thread, now I just need to decide whether to stay in these feathers or revert to my usual scales Dragon

EBearhug · 24/03/2019 02:01

Did anyone go to the Academic Archers conference this year?

Not yet, because it'll be 5th -7th April.

Beeziekn33ze · 24/03/2019 02:21

Vulnerable Elizabeth makes terrible choices of men, hoping she doesn't fall for smarmy Russ!
Busy Pip seems to be getting steamrollered by the Fairbrothers over Rosie's christening.
Helen seems too damaged to have a relationship at present. Hard on poor Henry.

Bellaisoneluckywoman · 24/03/2019 07:08

I predict grim affair between Lizzie and the ghastly CMR. I think it's being signposted quite clearly. Imagine how that will go down with Lily, Freddy, Kenton et al.

Many thanks for new thread.

LizziesTwin · 24/03/2019 07:31

Thank you EBearhug.

I just saw this photo on Twitter, it isn’t an image of cast members.

Thanks for the new thread, D3, and sorry not to be around to answer the clarion call yesterday. I had a strenuous day going to parkrun and then on to the march. Utterly knackered by the evening but what a day! Thanks for that picture, LizziesTwin, didn't see those yesterday. Lots of other cracking signs though. I wonder if a topical reference will make it into TA tonight. Doubt it. Politics is so volatile at the moment I don't think they'll risk doing anything until something is finally settled.

I'm in Team Frame, btw.

Now we're pass 22/3 I think I can risk mentioning that the BBC website didn't have a teaser for that night which had led some of us on the spoiler thread to speculate that there might be something very exciting scheduled for Friday but no, it must just have been a technical glitch. It was a BOOPworthy episode, but no great cliffhanger. Oh well. All my hopes are now pinned on Freddie's return. Pretty sure it's the same actor, which is good, as he is excellent.

GabrielleNelson · 24/03/2019 08:27

PS I think I'll stay with this name for a bit and keep the other one under wraps (green and silver, obv) for the next time I feel like a namechange.

DadDadDad · 24/03/2019 09:06

Ah, well, Bitt-, sorry Gabrielle, if you were on the march you are happily excused from thread-starting duty.

Do we know which day Freddie is actually returning?

Thank you soo much for the new (if very slightly tasteless) thread Dx3.

Great pix Lizzie'stwin thank you too Grin

C8H10N4O2 · 24/03/2019 10:22

If the LSWs go for CMR becoming Lizzie's cocklodger rather than Lily's I'll determine to stop listening. And then probably carry on anyway...

Her ethics didn't stop her going for a married man

Lizzie didn't go for Roy, he went for her knowing she was lonelyRoy was the married man whilst she was single. Lizzie broke it off because she felt guilty about it all. Why is it always the OW's fault when a married man pursues her, arguably in a vulnerable state and she puts a stop to it?

C8H10N4O2 · 24/03/2019 10:24

I was wondering if the big reveal about Natasha is that she is competent, a nice person and genuine.

Then I remember the combination of TASWAMA and being in the organic branch of the the family and realised the new app/business is obviously going to destroy them all. Again.

MikeUniformMike · 24/03/2019 11:20

To a pp on Thread 100. It was to Willow Farm that Freddie went, not Willow Cottage.
I think the big reveal about Natasha will be that she is a big spender.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 24/03/2019 11:33

MikeUniformMike Hmmph! You know what I meant. But all corrections gratefully received. Grin

All my hopes are now pinned on Freddie's return. Pretty sure it's the same actor, which is good, as he is excellent.

Shock And I was having such a lovely peaceful weekend! Now you've given me a Whole New Thing to worry about. I'd convene a one million woman protest march all by myself if they ever let the Freddie-actor go.

Thank you for the new thread D3! I won't be changing my new name anytime soon - it makes my fellow posters strangely pugnacious, which is enlivening ...

MikeUniformMike · 24/03/2019 11:52

I wasn't being nitpicky, it was just that Willow Cottage to me still means Mike and Vicky.
I like the Freddie actor too.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 24/03/2019 12:13

I suppose i get confused because to me it seems more natural that Mike - as the farmer - should have Willow Farm and Roy the wage-slave have the Cottage.

But what Freddie did then was devastating - so I too have high hopes for his return!

HelloYouTwo · 24/03/2019 13:15

I admit to not having paid it my full attention, but the dinner that Tom & Natasha went to - was it supposed to be near Ambridge? So there’s all these whizzy young (ish) business people running amazing new enterprises in the local Borsetshire area and while they are all close personal friends of Natasha, Tom has never heard of them or met them before? He’s just worked on the farm and left temporarily for Canada and the Nuffield but he’s never done any business networking, never been to any local events or meetings, never met with the supplier or retailer chain, never attended any awards (other than Helen’s cheese do)?

I don’t know if the storyline is meant to highlight how behind the times Bridge Farm / Tom is so we can see how easily he’ll be seduced by Natasha’s ambition, or if it’s just a load of nonsense.

JoeGrundyIsMyR0leModel · 24/03/2019 14:51

I vote "it's just a load of nonsense". I understood that the dinner party was near Ambridge, but isn't Natasha supposed to be a stranger to the area?!?!?

JessieMcJessie · 24/03/2019 15:01

Tom is a colossal idiot though so would be in keeping with his character so far! I really want to know how far away Natasha’s orchard is, where the juice is packed and distributed from and who she has running it while she swans about doing makeovers.

LizziesTwin · 24/03/2019 15:30

Didn’t someone ask Natasha if she was enjoying her week off?

JessieMcJessie · 24/03/2019 15:37

I’m not sure what you mean LizziesTwin - that was my point, who’s running it while she takes holiday?
