Oh I'd forgotten that LizziesTwin thank you.

Motoko · 16/03/2019 19:35

I'd forgotten about their brief foray into doing B&B!

I'm wondering if the Gills haven't moved in properly yet, or if they're only using the house as their country bolthole, and only there occasionally.

It seemed like the SW were setting it up so that there would be a shock when JD and Brian found out who had bought the house. I thought it might turn out to be redeveloped or something, because there seemed to be some secrecy around the sale, and JD didn't want it to become flats or something. She wanted it to go to a family.

ppeatfruit · 16/03/2019 19:59

The SCRIPT and PLOT is more suited to a dramatic soap 'tis true but her acting was good. But of course that is what the producers now say , it's not an everyday story of countryfolk , it's DRAMA fgs.

EcclesThePeacock · 16/03/2019 20:11

I'm hoping the SWs have some long-burn plan for the Gills - and tbh I think there's more than enough else going on at the moment. (Maybe that's one reason they went for Tom and Natasha's rapid wedding).

Sanguineclamp · 16/03/2019 20:21

Yes Eccles slow burn (or real time at least) always appreciated and boosts the credibility factor I think.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 16/03/2019 20:36

It could be a slow-burn thing with the Gills - but I'm wondering whether the SWs have re-situated (?) the drama in simply having the Aldridges excluded from their former home. Dancing around the edges, impotently peeping at the devastation and having to carry on with life elsewhere. So the Home Farm house (sans Aldridges) itself becomes a 'new' character - without the expense of new voices.

Arpafeelie · 16/03/2019 21:17

Do we know how old Natasha is? Do we know why she split up with her last boyfriend?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/03/2019 22:02

The Archers Encyclopaedia says that when Oliver bought Grange Farm it had "six bedrooms, two bathrooms, a parlour, kitchen, scullery and large cellars".

Joe
Clarrie and Eddie
Emma and Ed
George
Keira

and a spare room.

Motoko · 16/03/2019 22:03

Wasn't it that they'd just grown apart, but had been plodding along, even though they weren't really happy, or something like that?

EcclesThePeacock · 16/03/2019 22:49

Do we know how old Natasha is?

Yes, she's got an official bio (warning, photo) www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/5hxrPHGWJbQBCRmpvmdr6Sn/natasha-archer

According to which, she's just turned 37.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 16/03/2019 23:07

Just caught up with last night.

I’m not Helen’s biggest fan, but I am really sorry to see this potential relationship so drastically ruined by her past.... that said, it’s much more realistic script-writing than if she’d simply ridden off into the sunset with the next bloke to show her any attention. It shows how damaging that kind of abuse can be, which is presumably the sw’s point.

UnspiritualHome · 17/03/2019 00:32

When Kate was going on about fish poo salad, Adam should have pointed out to her that she must have eaten countless vegetables grown with the benefit of farm manure.

JazzerMcJazzer · 17/03/2019 07:42

From that official Natasha bio:

“Conscious of how much appearance counts towards making the right impression, Natasha is happy to spend liberally on how she turns out.”

What does that mean? Do they mean she spends a lot on makeup? Is “how she turns out” some sort of Welsh vernacular? The whole thing sounds like it was written by a 16 year old on work experience.

BerrowHarm · 17/03/2019 08:54

Wasn't Natasha engaged to a teacher Arpa?

EcclesThePeacock · 17/03/2019 09:40

I suppose the bio was thrown together somewhat hastily when whoever runs that page realised there was a new Archer.

It's reasonable to assume Natasha does spend time and money on her appearance, given her former life marketing cosmetics, and her skilful makeover on Pat, but a bit Hmmat that being the aspect of her character they lead on.

SpiritualGnome · 17/03/2019 09:55

Hello everyone. Loving the masked ball. Just popped in to say how much Natasha looks exactly like I'd pictured her. Thanks for the link (and warning!) Any updates on the new emoji?

DavidDavidDavid · 17/03/2019 10:05

Hello, Gnome. I suppose Spiritual Gnome is the place you go for elf and wellbeing. Grin

No news on a new smiley. I suspect we'll hear something here, if there is... www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3510091-ONE-HUNDRED-NOT-OUT-come-here-to-mark-The-Archers-threads-a-MN-phenomenon?pg=7

C8H10N4O2 · 17/03/2019 10:09

but a bit Hmm at that being the aspect of her character they lead on

TASWAMA extends to the character descriptions!

ppeatfruit · 17/03/2019 11:20

Oh good one Davex3 that's elfing funny that Grin

TheSilveryHildaOgden · 17/03/2019 14:59

I was surprised Kate didn't seem to approve of the fish and salad scheme, what with it being all ecological and that. So I think her spiteful picking it to pieces came from her jealousy of Adam.

StillDumDeDumming · 17/03/2019 15:05

Most industries that use animals have cruelty built in...eg killing them off when no longer productive- so I wouldn’t expect Kate to support it.

greenelephantscarf · 17/03/2019 15:11

tbh if I had a kate in my life I would make sure my treats were all non vegan :o

EcclesThePeacock · 17/03/2019 15:12

I got the impression she thought that it was particularly cruel to feed the tilapia to Brummies.

greenelephantscarf · 17/03/2019 15:13

another one wrt vegans - there are farms which specialise growing veg without animal manure.
