Archers Thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit. Thanks also to all those who contributed to the thread title.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other odd unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

So, to business. What a fantastic two-hander. Massive BOOP points to Alison Dowling, the scriptwriter and director (and the therapist). I had more than a small tear in my eye listening to that.

I'm another one with a vote of thanks to chemenger for all that information on the last thread about distilling. I should know some of that because I went on a tour of the whisky distillery near where my parents live but I've forgotten most of it except how delicious the end product is.

I may feel stabs of sympathy for Will because of Nic but that doesnt detract from the fact that he is a horrible dinosaur of a man.

QuaterMiss · 16/02/2019 18:52

Yes ... I wasn't impressed with Will's language towards Tracy. (I who have nothing at all against swearing!) Hard to tell if it was a reflection of the character or the writer.

Archers
EthelFechan · 16/02/2019 19:53

Thank you R4! Of course I've now forgotten the point I was going to make but you can be sure it was both wise and witty!

TeenTimesTwo · 16/02/2019 20:33

I obviously must listen to the omnibus tomorrow. (I keep missing out on Sundays due to DD needing help with h/w. But it is half term. Hurrah!)

Shocked Shock some avid listeners e.g.D^3 didn't know about the elephant. You'll be telling me next you don't know how Grace Archer died. Or Mark Hebden. Or Jethro Larkin. Smile

thislido · 16/02/2019 20:41

The Snell Sniff would be a nose. Or a nose in the air.

Errol must be, because on Safari on a MacBook the second post shows as the word rather than the symbol.

thislido · 16/02/2019 20:46

What does one get when one wins the Flower and Produce Show? That would be alike a boop.

Or, in honour of the two characters likely to die closest to our landmark Sad, a ferret or a cat.

TeenTimesTwo · 16/02/2019 20:59

Freda Fry Memorial Trophy?
A cup with hands over its mouth to stop it speaking?

Bittermints · 16/02/2019 21:20

I like the idea of a tiny little silver trophy emoticon for a BOOP.

Also very taken with the idea of a sniffing nose. Something like the one shown here?

Both the Grundy boys have very outdated and stereotyped views of women's roles. Something I assumed they picked up from Eddie and Joe - women cook, clean, work ten shifts to compensate for the feckless men in their lives and should be grateful if the men are not feckless.

InkySplatter · 16/02/2019 22:36

Greetings all! Thanks for the new thread bittermints.

I've had so many posts written in my mind, don't think many, if any, made it here but forgive me if I am repeating myself.

I can't stand Will. Everything he said to Mia was actually just weird and unhealthy. I know he's still greiving but he needs to act like an adult.

I can't bear Roy's advice to Kirsty, it was going so well until he said "you have someone, go for it." She needs to talk to Phillip about what they both want. If they both don't want kids etc fair enough but it seems like she wants romantic sparks and isn't getting them.

Massive boop for Lizzie, shsed a tear or two of my own there.

I'm really cross Kate isn't living in a yurt. She'd be fine and it'd do her the world of good. People have coped for hundreds of years living in them in Mongolia FGS (Goodness not God) She could mamange a fortnight or a month or however long. It would probably encourage her to sort her life out quicker.

Boop for Jill - it seems to be an unpopular opinion but I love her filled to thebrim with girlish glee. David needs to fall in a cess pit.

I think a nose or a nose profile would be great for a snell sniff! Also love a flower and produce boop award.
Still tickled pink by basques in an exit. You guys rock. Thanks

HorseDoorBolted · 16/02/2019 22:48

Sorry for ignorance - what is a BOOP?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2019 22:48

Apropos of emoticons, I happened on this, from 'world emoji day 2015'

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/60hT9LySsNvk3QJw39yPr6X/an-everyday-story-of-emoji-folk

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2019 22:50

I'm sure we could do better than some of those, especially as we have Archers and Gin

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2019 22:57

Sorry for ignorance - what is a BOOP?

Something that needs to be explained in the OP of each new thread!Grin

Briefly, some years ago, the poster BitOutOfPractice noted that there were a lot of negative posts and so thereafter we celebrate good stuff with a BOOP.

DoctorTwo · 16/02/2019 23:00

A BOOP point is for something in TA that makes you happy, named for the poster BitOutOfPractice.

DoctorTwo · 16/02/2019 23:01

Errol got there before me. :o

Snowymint · 16/02/2019 23:29

Lovely username Ethel!

DadDadDad · 16/02/2019 23:45

I was wondering if we could have a separate thread to discuss the merits of how to celebrate the 100,000th post on these threads.

Maybe this thread, for example:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3510091-ONE-HUNDRED-NOT-OUT-come-here-to-mark-The-Archers-threads-a-MN-phenomenon?watched=1&msgid=84978080#84978080

I've reminisced on that thread about the history of these threads.

HorseDoorBolted · 17/02/2019 08:09

Thank you! BOOPs make perfect sense now Smile

Abra1de · 17/02/2019 09:02

Good idea to have a separate thread for thread discussion.

EthelFechan · 17/02/2019 10:41

Lovely username Ethel!

Thank you, SnowyMint - inspired by a recent trip to Dumfries & Galloway Smile

Rumboogie · 17/02/2019 11:48

Probably be unpopular, but I can't stand Jill - dreadful whiny voice and seems very insensitive to what is going on. Anyone else think this?

ADarkandStormyKnight · 17/02/2019 11:58

Jill is nearly 90. I think she's pretty good considering. The others are't telling her much and she has copped on to that which must be upsetting her.
