Archers Many thanks to @LilianGish for the title (again - she has real gift for this!). Further thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to be Susan's best friend or other odd unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

(Change counting references arose specifically out of a nostalgic discussion on the previous thread, if anyone is intrigued.)

@Sproutingcorm totally agree regarding Kirsty, and Grin at 'superficial cheeriness' spot on!

ChampooPapi · 05/02/2019 14:22

@buckingfrolicks

Phillip is dullsville

There is actually a picture of his face in the dictionary next to the word 'Dull' Grin.

I am starting to find all his scenes with Kirsty so tiresome !

ChampooPapi · 05/02/2019 14:24

Why cant Kirsty have a passionate fling! she deserves it more then Helen in my book!

ChampooPapi · 05/02/2019 14:25

As you can see I've just caught up with both omnibuses

Sproutingcorm · 05/02/2019 14:46

Grin Champoo!

A second vote for a passionate fling!

ChampooPapi · 05/02/2019 15:05

@Sproutingcorm Yes! It makes me really sad for Kirsty, more sad then some of the actual 'sad' things in the archers that we are supposed to get upset about.

But I am upset by the fact she is lumbered with this boring father figure who is just not setting her world on fire! even briefly! Where was their honeymoon period? It seems the men get these in their new romantic storylines , not ok!

newtlover · 05/02/2019 19:06

have there been bets on Brian's sentence?
am hoping for a custodial

MargueritaPink · 05/02/2019 19:14

Pip needs to sort out her childcare arrangements. She can't just assume Toby will be available with no notice.

Minimammoth · 05/02/2019 19:14

Yes Alistaire would be more exciting. Philip can have Shula.

She didn't - I thought she'd arranged with him, but he'd double booked himself. Also how come it's 'her' childcare arrangements? He's Rosie's father, not some random.

Yes he is Rosie's father but that role seems to allocated and withdrawn as and when it suits Pip.

Fink · 05/02/2019 19:41

Brian is a complete cad, has the man no scruples?!

You can't wear clothes and then return them, that's just not on. He should have been sent down.

I'm with Pip on this one. Toby is just as much responsible for childcare as she is.

DadDadDad · 05/02/2019 20:47

I've missed a few episodes recently. Was it known that Brian had changed his mind about his plea, or was that a surprise tonight? It seemed like JD was relatively calm beforehand, so they must have discussed it...? What changed his mind?

birdsdestiny · 05/02/2019 21:32

Shock Dad, how can I trust the stats if you do unruly things like missing some episodes. Yes Jenny knew he was going to change his plea. Joe Grundy changed Brian's mind in a sweet little scene.

chemenger · 05/02/2019 21:57

I love it when Joe goes country philosopher and his chat with Brian was classic. My dad occasionally used to go into really thoughtful and moving speeches and Joe reminds me of him when he does it.

InkySplatter · 05/02/2019 21:58

I find Pip and Toby's last two childcare episodes very confusing. It sounded like It was the first Toby had heard of her needing that time, both times.
Whilst Toby's solution tonight may not have been ideal, the baby was happy and being watched and Toby was keeping his job so there really was no need for Pip to go off the deep end as she can't have it every which way. That said, sod having a child with Toby Fairbrother. Pip should've crossed her legs.

I don't like Helen but I did like her saying she enjoyed not being seen as a victim or a survivor.

Also don't like Kirsty but would love her to have a hot romance and there's still time for a little baby for her.

Pip said something about "you agreed" but I'm wondering if that means "I told you vaguely about this. I know you weren't paying attention and there is every possibility you didn't take in what I said but as you didn't say no then I'm going to take that as agreed"

DadDadDad · 05/02/2019 22:39

Thanks, birds. My stats are always about these threads, so I have access to the complete data set. Of course you should trust some anonymous stranger on the internet!

Which night was the Joe / Brian scene? looks like I need to give it a listen. We're going to miss Joe when he's gone: who else is going to remind of us character's full names on a regular basis?

Arpafeelie · 05/02/2019 22:43

Toby's had very mixed messages from Pip, who originally wanted to go it alone. David was trying to freeze Toby out when Rosie was a newborn.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 05/02/2019 23:04

What about the new people at Home Farm? I want to know!

MargueritaPink · 05/02/2019 23:44

I think the scriptwriters have forgotten that Home Farm farmhouse has been sold.

DDD. Friday's episode was the Joe Grundy Moral Maze episode.

SaturdayNext · 06/02/2019 00:00

Also how come it's 'her' childcare arrangements?

Because she always insisted it was her baby, her decision to have her, she could cope fine as a single parent, so there.

SaturdayNext · 06/02/2019 00:03

Perhaps the new owner of Home Farm will turn out to be some terribly sexy, rich hunk who will sweep Kirsty off her feet. It would be great if she becomes the lady of the manor and gets to patronise Tom and Brine, in addition to setting up an incredibly successful eco-friendly business with Emmur that finally puts Ed'n'Emmur's finances on an even keel.

DoctorTwo · 06/02/2019 00:53

I'm pretty sure I said that Roy and Kirsty would get together and I still think they will.

I'm no fan of Pip but she is imo in the right. I can see a Toby using F4J style tactics and court action to get access to Rosie, then getting Rex to look after her.
