Archers Many thanks to @LilianGish for the title and to @NotdeadyetBOING for being the last threadstarter. Further thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking of this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed.

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers I wonder where Brian and Jennifer will end up. I was very taken with the idea on the last thread that the mysterious Gills won't last very long and the house will be sold back to the Aldridges at a knockdown price.

Minimammoth, Russ is the perfect example of an artist who's fed up with having a day job and has found himself a minion-with-benefits. Fortunately she's beginning to see the light.

Footle · 04/01/2019 22:21

Why has it gone all Gosh aren't the working classes amusing?

BikingBeatrix · 04/01/2019 22:28

Moi, overinfested?!

I don’t think there was any talk of how Russ arrived but he had his own car when he took Elizabeth shopping.

I don’t think he has savings either, half of which should doubtless have gone to his wife and children at some point. She‘ll be one of these distressed women on MN getting lots of confusing / contradictory responses about her legal Position, and what he should do and lots of shocked posters not reading the f‘ing thread before commenting.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/01/2019 22:36

So just how does Helen explain to Lee her sons' parentage (Unknown sperm donor, coercive controller/rapist who she stabbed and who later tried to kidnap the kids) without sounding like she's the unwitting victim of the overheated imagination of a soap writer...

Minimammoth · 04/01/2019 22:43

Perhaps Russ will find a garnet to starve in. < meanie mini>

Minimammoth · 04/01/2019 22:44

Garret you fool, garret.
Nobody ever starved in a garnet. Pah

echt · 04/01/2019 22:50

Post snog, while we're all wondering if Helen is going to hook up with another abuser, it will be interesting to see the fallout after the inevitable reveal of the Rob/prison/trial.

echt · 04/01/2019 22:51

Ooops. Cross-post. Great minds.Smile

EBearhug · 04/01/2019 22:56

I don't think Russ will.ever choose to starve in a garret, however properly Artistic and thus fitting his true genius. He might end up there by pissing everyone off and not learning to cut his cloth to suit his purse, though.

(And yes, I did mean Lewis before. All I could think was that it definitely wasn't Leonard, but it was an L-name.)

birdsdestiny · 04/01/2019 23:03

What a grade A arse Tom is. How can he advise people how they should behave.
I loved loved Clarrie saying to Eddie ' stop hanging on your dad's sleeve'. There have been some nice little bits of dialogue recently

JessieMcJessie · 04/01/2019 23:44

I don’t think he has savings either, half of which should doubtless have gone to his wife and children at some point.

Has it ever been suggested that Russ has children? I thought that he was childless.

lottiegarbanzo · 04/01/2019 23:45

I don't think Russ has children either.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 05/01/2019 01:08

@birdsdestiny I was coming on to say the same thing. I've not been around for a couple of months and have noticed the writing has really improved. Some great conversations and I loved the respecting the will of the people dig on Thursday. Is there a new scriptwriter?

BikingBeatrix · 05/01/2019 01:12

I thought Russ did have children but maybe i‘m getting confused with some other character in some other story.

EBearhug · 05/01/2019 01:14

It was Keri Davies this week - he's been doing it for years! He knows his audience.

MargueritaPink · 05/01/2019 01:54

I don't think CallMeRuss has children. He has a wife who is allegedly highly strung and high maintenence but we don't know anything else about her.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 05/01/2019 08:19

The Tom thing felt clunky and I’m guessing is plot driven - realistically Roy wouldn’t have told anyone else. Mind you, realistically Adam wouldn’t leave his phone lying about.

LillianGish · 05/01/2019 08:50

BikingBeatrix may I just say how much I appreciate your over-infestation. I’d say it was the lack of an archivist, but but CMR only arrived a week or so ago. I love the way you explored every aspect of what was wrong with the scenario of the pair of them leaving in his car. Exactly what this thread is about and why I love it so much.

RevokeRemainReform · 05/01/2019 08:59

I never thought I'd say this but "Go Tom!"

Lexi is so sanctimonious and the surrogacy storyline is morally dubious.

She should either go back to Roy or home to her "girls" instead of moping around trying to have a child for two entitled men.

BOOP for Lee - he sounds like a keeper to me Smile

lottiegarbanzo · 05/01/2019 09:35

I thought that was a bit 'un-Tom' too, it surprised me, too interfering. Though, Tom is a bit sanctimonious and foot in mouth sometimes. I thought 'why don't you talk up the positives'! But actually, Lexi knows Roy loves her. Maybe the unmoderated outsider perspective on the surrogacy will jolt her in a way that wouldn't. (And she'll go back to Roy and accidentally get pregnant by him, fulfilling my earlier prediction - though, I'm not sure how that possibility fits with the IVF regime).

JessieMcJessie · 05/01/2019 09:36

Revoke you are veering dangerously close to homophobia there.

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 05/01/2019 09:50

I noticed that Helen said "they don't see their dad" singular, not plural. I hope Lee doesn't run a mile, although I imagine he will eventually hear it from Susan, who will add Extra Drama and eyebrow wiggling.

RevokeRemainReform · 05/01/2019 09:58

Revoke you are veering dangerously close to homophobia there

Oh no, I'm not. Pack that in, Jessie.

I am opposed to two men using a woman's body to give birth to a child for them. Actually, I'm opposed to surrogacy in general and think they should have adopted but Ian wanted his "own" baby. Which ironically he's not going to get as they're using Adam's sperm.

williteverend99 · 05/01/2019 10:12

Presumably Lexie will end up pregnant, return to Bulgaria and we may have a whole new dilemma about surrogacy/adoption/residence rights post Brexit.....surprised Adam and Ian have not discussed that.

birdsdestiny · 05/01/2019 10:22

Yes I am also opposed to selling children, am pretty sure that doesn't make me homophobic.
