Archers Many thanks to @LilianGish for the title and to @NotdeadyetBOING for being the last threadstarter. Further thanks due to @PseudoBadger for kicking of this long, long series of Archers threads and to @DadDadDad for being our resident statistician and keeping the ball rolling when Pseudo stepped back a bit.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed.

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers I wonder where Brian and Jennifer will end up. I was very taken with the idea on the last thread that the mysterious Gills won't last very long and the house will be sold back to the Aldridges at a knockdown price.

Me too Mike I like most root veg actually. I'm about to steam a celeriac Grin

MikeUniformMike · 14/01/2019 11:13

I love celeriac. Kale is ok in small proportions but there was loads in a vegbox I got.
Elizabeth paid for childcare for the twins when they were young. Expecting an 85 year old greatgrandmother to do free childcare is ridiculous.

ppeatfruit · 14/01/2019 11:22

IIRC Jill offered but both Ruth and Pip have demurred to some extent, one wouldn't want to hurt a kind granny's feelings.
It's easy at the moment but when Rosie reaches crawling and toddler age Jill wouldn't be able to cope properly. Unless Rosie was permanently in a playpen which isn't fair to her.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/01/2019 11:24

I would think the recent debacle with the dog and the mince pies would make Jill cautious about the realities of caring for a mobile child. She's not an idiot.

R4 · 14/01/2019 11:56

What annoys me about childcare on TA is that it is so ad hoc. I had to plan mine with military precision.
Have we ever had a case where someone has wanted childcare and it has not been forthcoming in some form or another?

Maybe the 'pass the parcel' with Rosie, where she seems to have umpteen relatives willing to put themselves out if Pip asks, is meant to be a compare&contrast with Lizzie where nobody is looking out for her, compounded by her not asking for help.

TheEfficientBaxter · 14/01/2019 14:11

And so it begins again....

We've had years of Princess Pip being snide and patronising to Josh (with David & Rooooth backing her up) and now she's starting on Ben.

Oooh, she makes me mad Angry

ppeatfruit · 14/01/2019 14:12

David and Shula should be keeping an eye on Lizzie, Shula said she was in the middle of the review of the alcohol licence for LL.

MikeUniformMike · 14/01/2019 14:16

David and Shula are keeping an eye on Elizabeth but it will be someone else who realises something's wrong. Maybe Kenton or Alan.
Elizabeth even managed to fool Lily.
She is almost certainly agoraphobic - or that is part of it.
Has Freddie really stopped her from visiting?

BertrandRussell · 14/01/2019 15:18

Surely one of the benefits of living in an extended family group there is always someone to have the baby for a bit? It’s only her great grandmother, her grandparents and her uncles and aunts that look after her. It’s not as if Pip hands her to any passing Amazon delivery man!

witchmountain · 14/01/2019 15:26

Very belated thanks for the new thread, Bittermints. I’m almost caught up after a couple of back-to-back omnibuses. I can’t believe one of you was right about the back tattoos, it was so weird that I could almost believe that Hannah’s jealously was tinged with actual concern.

ppeatfruit · 14/01/2019 16:10

I've feeling she's depressed too. The not eating and not wanting to go anywhere, with the panic attacks (though they are probably part of her agoraphobia)

Mike on Freddie's b\day she refused to visit HIM even though she and Lily had passes. She said it was because of her being so upset that it would be bad for Freddie but that struck me as very out of character.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/01/2019 16:50

Lily went round to alert the family but Lizzie has been dismissing their concerns.

birdsdestiny · 14/01/2019 17:08

I also can't tell if toby is being a bit crap in the parenting department or if David is just determined to see the worst in him. There have been lots of references to Toby not being around lately.

QuaterMiss · 14/01/2019 17:38

Oddly enough I've had the impression that Toby has been a surprisingly 'good' father so far. He's only being referred to as an occasional reason why Pip might be looking after Rosie - his absences aren't driving a story.

Thinking ahead - Rosie is too closely related to Mungo for that to be a relationship story. Poppy is a little older than him, yes? That would be cool - tying the Grundys to the Snell/Bellamy/Archers. But perhaps Mungo's eventual Ambridge life partner (male or female) hasn't been born yet. Oooh! The Lexi/Adam baby ... Could be nicely complicated.

Agreed. I like that he gets a mention every now and then despite not having actual airtime. TA needs more "as I was saying to the other day..."

Some characters more than others - though regrettably its unlikely Toby is likely to be following Kathy into becoming an entirely silent character.

Toby could be father of the year whilst Pip snores all night and trots off to the spa every morning and David would still find fault with him.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 14/01/2019 19:12

Kirstie's not getting any Grin!!

Cue 'amusing' SL about secretly feeding him foods with aphrodisiac qualities.

Mark my words....

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 14/01/2019 19:20

Of course joining it together is 'that simple.'

If it's only the landline, there are only two (possibly maximum four) wires to reconnect.

I did it when I was trimming my privet.

MadameButterface · 14/01/2019 20:15

Philip's too old for Kirsty, this is all going to come to a head (hur hur)and she'll have nothing to keep her in ambridge. she'll apply for a dream job (where, doing what, I have no idea, I don't know what Kirsty actually likes or is interested in) and off she'll go.

birdsdestiny · 14/01/2019 20:25

Yeah I think kirsty is on the way out. Nobody cares about Philip do that?

birdsdestiny · 14/01/2019 20:26

Do they Hmm

MikeUniformMike · 14/01/2019 20:34

I don't. I like Kirsty and don't want her to leave.

QuaterMiss · 14/01/2019 20:45

After a great start years ago - trashing GM crops with Tom and being prosecuted for it - Kirsty should have matured into a formidable eco-warrior, doing something splendid all across Europe. Instead ...

Hmm Grin Why is trimming my privet so hilarious? (I'm clearly not mature, despite ancientness.)

NorthernLurker · 14/01/2019 20:55

The whole 'culture shock' of having neighbours (shudder) for Brian and Jennifer combined with what is quite simply Kirsty's rudeness is making for tedious listening.

The whole nonsense tonight with the wire was just drivel.
