If I was Lexi, I wouldn't spend all that time, effort and money to fly back to Britain just to say "you're dumped". I think she intends to stay here for the surrogacy but Roy is no longer part of the plans. It may possibly be that she has listened to someone saying how difficult the pregnancy is for the non-dad so she's dropped him (despite still loving him) as a big sacrifice, to save him the pain of dropping her.
But True Love will prevail.

I liked the way that Joe backed off from baiting Oliver. He didn't need to mention 'his Susan' but you knew what he was thinking.Sad

Yes to all that.

BolleauxtoBankers · 22/11/2018 04:44

That Oliver and Joe scene last night was extremely moving, short though it was. I will swing for Lynda if this Chaucer stuff goes on much longer, though.

The thing I thought was really awful was the conversation between Tom and Roy, which resulted in Roy vowing that he wouldn't give up and would continue to pursue Lexi. For whatever reason, she's made it abundantly clear she doesn't want to be with him, how dare he think it's ok to not take no for an answer and carry on going after her?! And for Tom to positively encourage that. They both came across as so nasty and controlling, as though she didn't have the right to make her own decisions. Horrible behaviour and surely out of character, Roy's normally depicted as being a decent guy (major lapses notwithstanding).

When did Caroline work at the Bull? I don't remember her doing that at all. Did I wipe it from my memory or was it ages ago (I've sort of been listening since childhood, DM has always had TA on in the house, but I didn't pay much attention to it as anything more than background noise for the first couple of decades)?

BertrandRussell · 22/11/2018 07:32

Caroline part owned The Bull!

(Unless I made that up..)

EBearhug · 22/11/2018 08:01

You didn't make that up, Bertrand.

Didn’t Caroline start out as a barmaid in the Bull back in the mists of time? I may be misremembering that, as it would have been before my listening comprehension was sufficiently advanced to follow TA, though I would have heard it.

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2018 08:20

Well why not Minamouth ? (Adam could close his eyes and think of Ian, or young gorgeous men) Micheal Jackson forced himself.

This thread has suddenly sunk to depths not usually reached hasn't it? Grin

I agree that Roy and Tom came across as controlling and sinister. I was also frustrated by the vagueness of the advice though- “you’ve got to go for it!” “Don’t let her get away!” “We have to make it work!” Meaningless- no actual discussion if what may have made Lexi change her mind or any practical suggestions to change things. Sopay guff, the kind of thing that usually ends up in someone rushing to an airport to declare their love.

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2018 08:40

But Lexi is giving mixed messages, saying she still loves Roy and that's all he's hearing.

Russ was predictably whiny and showing signs of the controlling side so many said would manifest itself.

OH and I decided a while back that he's the nouveau Rob.

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2018 09:10

No he's just an adult child.

Caroline worked at the Bull the same time as Clarrie did, which is why she was Will's Godmother. Jack Woolley then poached her because he liked her posh connections.

Fink · 22/11/2018 10:24

Oh, that makes sense. I always wondered how she came to be Will's godmother. So when would that have been?

PanicwiththeBisto · 22/11/2018 10:38

Well if Will was born just after Prince William, then it must have been in early 80s.

DerRosenkavelier · 22/11/2018 10:51

I suspect hope that the Canterbury Tales will be a complete disaster. We are due one after then many years of Lynda pulling rabbits out of hat.

Much has been made of this being her final farewell to the Ambridge boards. If it's a calamity then she can come back next year.

LillianGish · 22/11/2018 12:18

Caroline did work and indeed part own The Bull, but long before Oliver was on the scene surely? I'm not sure he would actually remember her working there (prepares to be corrected). If I'm correct, he wants to get away from Grey Gables (where they worked together) to work somewhere she once worked before his time. Lovely scene with Joe though. And although I'm finding the Canterbury Tales a bit of a drag, I loved the fact that David had to read in for Richard Thwaite.

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2018 12:26

Oh I quite like The Canterbury Tales story line, it's educational in a sly way! I'm glad I'm not in it though !

[Lexi/Roy]For whatever reason, she's made it abundantly clear she doesn't want to be with him, how dare he think it's ok to not take no for an answer and carry on going after her?! But do you not remember Harrison's wooing of Fallon? - that came close to stalking. And Rob was introduced as all one could want in a man. The SWs seem to have a very warped view of what makes a healthy relationship between a man and a woman. I wonder if they all went to single sex schools?

MereDintofPandiculation · 22/11/2018 12:57

Now why didn't that bold work? Made sure I had no spaces between 1st/last letters and asterisk. And it's the proper asterisk, not the "alternate character set key" asterisk. Do I need to have a space before the first asterisk?

Minimammoth · 22/11/2018 13:01

I need to catch up, but did wonder if the pickup incident might herald the return of Rob. ( De Duh Deh)
Indeed ppeat he might creep up on her with a turkey baster even. Sorry folks I know this would be assault, but think it in cartoon form. I will now banish myself.
< it was her Miss, she encouraged me>

Fink · 22/11/2018 13:04

I went to a single-sex school and I'm the one who made the complaint about Roy and Tom! And yes, I agree about other characters also being portrayed as though the inability to understand the word 'no' were a good thing.

Yes, I think you need a space between the ] and the *.

DerRosenkavelier · 22/11/2018 13:45

I quite like the Canterbury Tales story, although it is a bit pretentious, and I am sure that there is one SW who is trying to make some kind of point about how the Archer's could be seen as a modern version. All human life is here, and all that stuff.
Also, it never stuck me as very Christmas-y. It starts in Aprille. for goodness sake.
