As Frilly stress Lizzy out, did the SWs forget her heart defect? Will there be long term llama drama karma in The Archers?

Shock Lanham Titchener! Obv a great-great-uncle

You can just imagine all the portraits of previous Titcheners (with the same face but different clothes/hairstyles throughout the ages) hanging up chez Ursula.

Does Elizabeth seem to anyone else be very soft on Freddy? He has cost her a huge amount of business I imagine, but in her stupid conversation with Oliver about the bring a bottle weddings and how people could have extra ice creams instead of alcohol, she seemed to be ridiculously optimistic. Elizabeth is also hurrying around to see Freddy all the time with special meals for him etc, not being nearly furious enough about the betrayal and lying to the police etc. Also, are all the references to Freddy spending time with the horses a hint that he's going to end up in that line of work? I remember his grief a few months ago when Nigel's hunter died painfully, and about 6 years ago he was reported to be riding beautifully and "gripping with his heels" (by writers who had clearly never ridden), but I don't recall any affinity with horses being raised other than that!

Lizzie has always treated Freddie like a little emperor and poor Lily is just leant in and expected to look after her Mum’s emotional needs. She’s very susceptible to a Russ situation.

ppeatfruit · 31/08/2018 12:11

IMO Lily took on the role of emotional crutch, Lizzie doesn't seem that needy. Freddie hasn't been especially favoured. Though why she feels she needs to keep him fed I don't know, maybe because she feels guilty about Shula having to put up with him.

Henry's 'sleepover' that wasn't one at Tom's sounds wonderful!

TigerTeatimes · 31/08/2018 12:14

Thought the dreadful Shula had most unchristianly ditched her marriage FOR SOME FUN.

She thought Alistair was boring, wonder when/if she'll realise it's her that's the problem.

Thanks for the new thread Pseudo & fab title. Didn't enjoy the actual lama drama but loved the resolution. True friendship, scheming followed by helpless giggling. Rang very true to me.

Think if you thought your baby might be going to prison you'd probably want to mother and smother them as much as possible. She can hardly ground him - he's an adult (just) and he's not allowed home. Wink

birdsdestiny · 31/08/2018 12:23

I dont think its christian to make people stay in a marriage that they dont want to be in. I think shula has every right to end her marriage. I would have left Alistair in the gambling period.

TigerDrankAllTheWaterInTheTap · 31/08/2018 12:30

Thanks for the new thread, Pseudo. Checking in rather late.

I liked Jim standing up for Alistair with Jazzer. Not so enamoured of a 'Ho ho ho Jazzer tries to get fit and run a half-marathon' story, not least because I live with a mad runner and get enough of that at home. Sad

TigerTeatimes · 31/08/2018 14:27

I think she's every right to end her marriage Bird I just think it's pathetic that she blocked any attempt to work on it. If Alistair had agreed to abandon all commitments and go on a midlife crisis gap yah adventure with her they'd probably still be together. He understandably said no and so she dumped him as though they'd been seeing each other for 5 minutes, not married for decades.

Etino · 31/08/2018 15:20

@ppeatfruit
You are right! Talk about projecting, she mothers Freddie too.

Fink · 31/08/2018 15:28

Except recently. It has been very noticeable since all the drug storyline blew up. Like outside court when Lizzie turned to Lily and told her (still before she'd remembered about her A Level results, mind you) that the two of them would have to pull together to be there for Freddie.

ppeatfruit · 31/08/2018 17:13

Yes that's true Fink but Lizzie was very stressed at the magistrate's , she obviously felt guilty about forgetting to ask Lily about her results.

newtlover · 31/08/2018 19:08

so do we get to hear the 'kitchen supper" ???
please Lizzie ask how long he has been divorced

newtlover · 31/08/2018 19:10

hah, wife still not in a great place

newtlover · 31/08/2018 19:14

hahahahaha

Fink · 31/08/2018 19:15

Oh well, at least he turned up and Lizzie can see what the situation is for herself. If he'd made his excuses she'd be none the wiser. Hopefully she'll step up and be a real mum now.

newtlover · 31/08/2018 19:17

oh no, get a grip woman your daughter needs you now

Fink · 31/08/2018 19:41

oh no, get a grip woman your daughter needs you now

That's exactly what I was thinking. Now is not the time for a breakdown. You need to get back down there, sit politely with Russ and Lily until he leaves, then have a proper conversation with your daughter. She's having a coffee so she won't be too tired.

Is a sauna good for a weak heart?

DadDadDad · 31/08/2018 19:56

Is a sauna good for a weak heart?

I think it's the icy cold plunge into reality that's more of a problem now for Elizabeth.Shock

newtlover · 31/08/2018 20:23

hopefully Shula will tell her to get her shit together
or words to that effect

Fink · 31/08/2018 20:40

hopefully Shula will tell her to get her shit together

Nah, it's Kenton you want for that kind of thing. Shula's mainly good for waking wailing along in sympathy. Which in this situation is not particularly useful.

jinglebitch · 31/08/2018 20:48

Bit harsh I feel. Is not this the cumulative emotional release after all the stress? (And specially at Shula to remind her what perspective is..) I don't remember hearing more convincing sobbing for many a year. At least she went out of the room and let it out away from Lily; no Eastenders "wot you playin at" knee jerk reaction.

R4 · 31/08/2018 21:21

You lot are hard! Lizzie has been concentrating on one twin whilst subconsciously thinking "thank goodness one of them has turned out right". Now she has found out that the 'reliable' one is a mess, too. So both children have gone wrong and the business might go down the pan which means they might lose the ancestral home on her watch. I think she is allowed a bit of hyperventilating!
I don't understand Jill's absence during all this. You would think that she would be supporting Lizzie but is nowhere to be seen.

LassWiADelicateAir · 31/08/2018 22:16

Is Hannah actually mad? If not, she is deeply unpleasant.

birdsdestiny · 31/08/2018 22:32

I have absolutely no idea. Her character makes no sense at all. I presume there will be a big reveal which will explain all.
