As Frilly stress Lizzy out, did the SWs forget her heart defect? Will there be long term llama drama karma in The Archers?

Gersemi and Tiger - you have pretty much convinced me she’s not going! Grin

I find it astonishing that Elizabeth can't see beyond the immediate future. When Lily's older and is looking back, she'll be seeing her parent effectively giving her blessing to her relationship with a married teacher - keeping mum, buying uni stuff for them both, letting him stay etc. Surely that will put a wedge between Lily and Elizabeth more in the long term than if Elizabeth said at this point 'what the bloody hell are you doing?!' At least in time Lily would see that Elizabeth had her best interests first. I guess Elizabeth isn't thinking in those terms at all though. At the minute it just appears she has terrible judgement...

Minimammoth · 09/09/2018 18:49

I actually think that Elizabeth, is trying to keep Lily close, share confidences, be supportive, to be there to pick up the prices when it all goes sour. Admonishing her and making her wrong would drive her away. Glad E. has confided in Kenton though, even if he is unpredictable.

But then if she had gone to Oxbridge she would not have been permitted to live out in the first year so the storyline couldn’t have happened.

You can live out of college in the first year, with special permission. I suspect the reason Lily is not going to Oxbridge is:
a) Phoebe is filling the Oxbridge quota for the programme

b) since going to college she has not been portrayed as spectacularly hard working, interested in her subject, or generally top academically. She is clearly bright and well suited to studying but, as a pp said, more interested in a broad student experience than excellence in her subject (whatever it might be). She would probably have really enjoyed Manchester if it weren't for Russ.

Re. vegan cafés, I completely agree with whoever thought they are not a particular draw for omnivores (the thread's moved on so far now I can't find who made the original comment). I eat vegan food sometimes and it's ok (although I find the concept of a meal without dairy products a bit alien Grin), but cakes, biscuits and the like without eggs and butter are just grim. The only café near my work only serves 'raw' and vegan food, I tried it when desperate for a sugary chocolate fix. I won't be bothering again. I can imagine Russ going for a naice artisan hipster café, but not vegan.

I'm a vegetarian and they aren't a particular draw for me.

Oh dear the scales have not dropped from silly, deluded Lily's eyes. Phoebe , if she meets the twunt , will see right through him.

Is Tracey really such an idiot?

R4 · 09/09/2018 19:27

Russ has gone to his parents' place for a few days, eh?Hmm

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2018 19:35

I just looked at random for one college and it seems it takes months of preparation to get this permission. I doubt a late 'so I can shack up with my ex deputy head' would cut it. But yes, esp (b)

I so want Phoebe to toast Russ.

witchmountain · 09/09/2018 20:04

About the house or the drugs? With regard to the house I thought it was interesting that she clearly didn’t categorise herself as a time waster - I suppose because she was being open about the fact she wasn’t interested in buying - and acted as though it were obvious to bother of them, which of course it was. A friend invited me to go and view a flat a few months back simply because she wanted to have a look round the development, no intention of buying. I was horrified but she thought it was perfectly normal! Like once it’s on the market it’s just a transactional thing.

With regard to the drugs, it seemed logical. If you want drugs then who else are your going to ask apart from someone who takes or deals them?

goodelfallover · 09/09/2018 20:25

QuaterMiss and his raspberries were huge!

LassWiADelicateAir · 09/09/2018 20:40

I meant stupid in relation to both. There is a world of difference between going to the opening viewing hours of a new development and turning up expecting a nose- around the house here.

So far as the drugs- in the situation where someone has just pled guilty and is awaiting sentencing? They are hardly likely still to be dealing.

witchmountain · 09/09/2018 20:58

No but they will know someone who is. He wasn’t cooking up the drugs at home!

Whilst we’re on the topic I’m currently on a bus where another passenger is carrying out an angry monologue at the top of his voice about how much he “fucking hates drugs”! Apparently actors are mainly to blame, if anyone was wondering.

I didn’t make the flat thing clear - it wasn’t an opening hours type situation - think historic structure that had been developed in the past.

witchmountain · 09/09/2018 21:03

That’s why people opt out of estate agents’ boards isn’t it, because if the property looks halfway interesting people just turn up.

Fink · 09/09/2018 21:14

No but they will know someone who is. He wasn’t cooking up the drugs at home!

This is what confuses me about drug dealing, although perhaps you lot are not the best people to ask ...

How does anyone make money from it? Is there a chain of dealers going from 'wholesale' to progressively smaller quantities until you get down to someone like Freddie who deals directly to the public? And each one lower down charges slightly more and takes a cut? Or is it all organised centrally (like Freddie was working for Ellis, Ellis had a few other small timers and was answerable to a bigger boss, who had another boss and so on up to some huge drug baron) and each small dealer gets told how much to charge then paid by their boss???

And how to they calculate their national insurance contributions? What pension provision is there?

I don't think Tracey was unreasonable in assuming that the only known drug dealer in the village would have contacts still in the trade. She's much more realistic than all the family bleating on about how contrite Freddie is despite a complete lack of any signs of contrition

TigerTeatimes · 09/09/2018 21:23

After tonight I'm rather excited for the week ahead.

I think the world is full of fabulous vegan deserts though I'm put off the sumptuous brownies and most cakes by the fact that they are mainly oil. Confused

birdsdestiny · 09/09/2018 21:31

There is no way I am looking that up for you Fink, my search history thanks to TA already includes 'is it illegal to have a relationship with a student'.

witchmountain · 09/09/2018 21:48

Fink I think both those business models are possible.

You’ll have to ask DDD about the pensions.

DeusEx · 09/09/2018 22:30

”He’s not a common drug dealer!”

No Lily that’s...I mean, that’s literally what he is. Remove head from sanctimonious arse.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 09/09/2018 22:33

I bet Russ is spending the weekend trying to get Lara to take him back.

BikingBeatrix · 09/09/2018 22:45

I want to visit my old school building, the listed part of which was turned into flats. I am scared somebody will recognise me, a bit silly as l haven’t lived there for decades.

BikingBeatrix · 09/09/2018 22:47

I used to do a very naice vegan cake, using apple juice and cider vinegar. Haven’t done it for ages as l was ill and DH does most of the cooking these days and he uses eggs. Tut!

Gersemi · 09/09/2018 23:04

I do hope we get to hear Phoebe meeting Russ. She's going to have difficulty keeping quiet about his abuse of authority, and will see right through the twatty expensive tastes combined with the expectation that Lily will support his artistic ambitions. With any luck, seeing Russ through the eyes of someone of her own age whom she respects might begin to disillusion Lily.

MVLipwig · 10/09/2018 00:58

I’m finally delurking and just accepting the spoilers as an omnibus listener. Surely Russ can’t have delusions of Lily’s richness? When he first came for dinner didn’t he say something like
‘And this is really your home?’
‘Well, freddy’s technically’
Not to mention she’ll have surely told her closest companion about the licensing issues and reduced income.
(As an aside, is there a handy list of acronyms? Or I’d settle for an explanation of BOOF)

MVLipwig · 10/09/2018 00:59
