Radio 2 - Jo Whiley and Ricky Wilson

I thought there was BOUND to be a thread on this - apparently not, so I'm starting one!

I loved drive time with Simon Mayo and have to say that although I'm sticking with it, I am not a big fan of the new format. However! Quite liking Jo with Ricky!!! Feels like there's more chemistry and even (sorry Simon) think I'm preferring it to Simon and Jo!! Obviously Simon on his own is the best but am I alone in thinking the Jo and Ricky combo is working out?

We are listening and agree, like Jo and Ricky, I like Jo, I like Simon, just not together.

I have to agree! I think Ricky's silliness counteracts Jo's seriousness and it works. I loved the old Drivetime but really dislike Jo and Simon together.

I completely agree, we've been enjoying it much more this last week or so, and I was very harsh on Jo. It does sound like she's relaxed such a lot with Ricky.

Interesting. I might start listening to radio 2 on my drive home from work.

And here was I coming on to say I thought it was even worse than usual! Oh dear. I hate Jo Whiley and have less than no idea who this Ricky person is. I did enjoy Simon Mayo on his own though.

Can Simon do the lunch time slot or the afternoon show? I am desperate to get rid of Steve Wright and his gang.

I like Simon doing interviews and he's the only radio person who plays Duel by Propaganda so he gets extra brownie points from me.

Completely agree! Much preferred just Simon Mayo on his own, but absolutely zero chemistry between Jo and Simon I just find listening to them difficult and cringe worthy!

Oh my God I'm all for replacing Steve Wright if we can!! Every time I accidentally tune in I can't believe the same show from 20 years ago is still on the radio!

I love them together, love Jo individually, love Simon individually. Simon and Jo together - no. Agreed re Steve Wright, who likes him? He must know where the bodies are buried at radio 2!

Loath Steve Wright, didn't like him in the '80's and hadn't got any better

I think Ricky is good and Jo certainly seems happier with him, but he makes little jokes which she doesn’t get and they fall flat. He’s witty and he’s got no one to bounce off because she’s not witty. Far too serious for me, though she seems like a lovely person, so I feel bad for saying it!

I feel bad dissing Jo too as she's a cool person and knows her music, but just not good for that show...

He's cocky but I really like Ricky Kaiser chief on the radio.

Ricky is getting on my bloody nerves. I don’t like Jo with Simon either. Simon I love.

Can just extend all the other radio presenters slots to edge out Steve Wright. He makes me want to smash things

Oh god no! I think she sounds like she hates him. He is funny. She is dull.

It it the whole ‘coolness’ of Jo W I dislike, so a combo of her plus anyone is a major fail.
I do think Ricky is fun though

oooh i said this to dh already....Jo and Ricky are much better together than Jo and Simon.

My ideal line up would be Sara Cox for breakfast, Ken Bruce next. Then anyone in the whole fucking wide world other than Jezza Vain to do the"current affairs" ...Vanessa is pretty good though tbf. Move Steve Wright off to a retirement home, and Simon could easily fit in here, and leave Jo and Ricky in the Drivetime slot.

Wooooooooo! GaryDavies on your radio can pick up the slack on the 10-midnight eighties show that Sara currently does, he''s alright on a friday.

I have really liked Jo & Ricky together, have been listening again to drivetime these last 2 weeks.
I doubt Ricky would want a full time job like that though.....I doubt he needs the money?

Agree that the Jo & Ricky combo works better than Jo & Simon but in either combination Jo adds very little

I don't dislike her as such but she is better on her own as she has a very 'cool' style of presenting which doesn't rely on being spontaneous or playful which I think is necessary for a duo to work (this Alan Carr & Mel Sykes)

Ricky Wilson is brilliant on the radio and I've really enjoyed him when he covers for Dermot on a weekend (he's far more fun to listen to than Dermot IMHO)

So where is Simon? Is this a permanent thing?

I love Simon and was gutted when they replaced the old show. He and Jo just don’t work together. I agree that she’s better with Ricky but I don’t think she suits a daytime slot. Her skills lie in her knowledge and ‘coolness’ but they aren’t needed for Drivetime. I’d much prefer Simon back with the old team.

Simon’s on holiday. He’s got a holiday home near where I live. He was there last week.

I wonder who will partner Simon when Jo goes on Holiday?
