Ambridge is in the doldrums. When will Pip pop? Does anybody even care? And Anisha’s off, leaving Rex in the (pig) trough? Discuss the Archers here.

Sorry about the title, nothing particularly inspiring in the storylines currently Sad

No spoilers please, there’s a thread for that.

Rex + Pip, sure thing.
Home farm nonsense, same as Great Move North, agreed.
Tony and Tom, get the violins out.
Am enjoying the scenes at The Bull though.

Bibesia · 03/07/2018 18:13

I'm going to go on record as saying I don't believe Kate OR Phoebe OR Alice are pregnant. So there.

MrsArthurShappey · 03/07/2018 18:50

Ugh I’ve said it before, I LIKE Rex, he’s a Good Guy and deserves a Good Woman, not Pip. It is fairly inevitable but I don’t like it at all.

Oh and Aberystwyth is lovely. We went on Friday night to watch The Goonies at an open air cinema next to the castle. Lush mun

R4 · 03/07/2018 22:30

Ugh. Lord save us from Bridge Farm proselytising.
And save us from clunky compare&contrast. Again.

Mootsie · 03/07/2018 22:48

Rex and Hannah maybe?

Blossom Hill Cottage will need new tenants.

Ellapaella · 03/07/2018 22:51

Rex and Pip have got to get together! It's fate that Aneesha is leaving.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 03/07/2018 22:55

And there was I thinking Pat was going to build her own affordable houses on the plot where the new barn was going to go before Tom and Helen put that on hold....

echt · 03/07/2018 23:08

That bit about the new barn must have passed me by, confused it with the new milking parlour.

Have Helen's legal fees been paid off yet? Must have been quite a chunk. And surely the market for cheesemaking must be pretty well exhausted by now.

I think either Helen or Kate should get into an MLM scheme.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 03/07/2018 23:12

Might not be a barn... they were talking about a new building.

Nice to hear Adam and Brian at loggerheads again.

LassWiADelicateAir · 03/07/2018 23:22

What the hell was Tom wittering on about?

Maling cheese-making classes more inclusive?

LassWiADelicateAir · 03/07/2018 23:23

Making not maling.

My phone has Aberystwyth as an auto- complete too.

Buckingfrolicks · 04/07/2018 00:43

I usually am a v benign listener

But I dislike everyone atm

The only saving grace is No Ian. But that is not enough to offset far too much Tony n Pat n Tom n Helen. Yawwwn.

Bibesia · 04/07/2018 07:05

PatnTony increased the mortgage to pay off the legal fees, didn't they? And if they wanted to pay that off I would imagine that the land sale covered it several times over.

Gruach · 04/07/2018 07:19

I too was listening (though not with much attention, I admit) for Pat to exclaim to Emma that Bridge Farm would itself be building some affordable houses.

It seems such an obvious route to take.

Years ago, when they were engaged, Tom showed Brenda an area of Bridge Farm land which he wanted to use to build their new home. Does anyone know where it was? I have no idea if it was part of what was sold to Justin or not.

R4 · 04/07/2018 09:03

Bridge Farm would itself be building some affordable houses.

Very altruistic, but it would let Justin off the hook. Unless BF finished their scheme before Justin, moved in some Horrobins and depressed the sale price of his luxury houses.

Was it Brenda or Kirsty who was shown the Ideal Spot? I seem to remember that it was raised up, with a good view of the surrounding countryside. Kirsty rebelled in favour of a new-build (which was reneged on, so presumably a lost deposit - another cost (along with the abortive wedding) that somehow got swallowed by BF finances).

Gruach · 04/07/2018 09:36

Oh God! I’d almost managed to forget the sheer idiocy of a previous editor portraying Kirsty - Kirsty - as someone who would prefer a billion dollar, newly built house, somewhere anonymous outside Ambridge, to a handraised house on the family farm.

Gruach · 04/07/2018 19:12

Jazzer is on fire tonight!

C8H10N4O2 · 04/07/2018 23:11

Jazzer is on fire tonight!

If only half the cast and the LSWs were.

Tonight's episode was just a cliche too far even for me. I see myself taking a summer holiday for a while.

LassWiADelicateAir · 04/07/2018 23:52

I thought Neil and Will were good tonight.

I'm mystified by Alastair having to buy Anisha out. Anisha as the exiting junior partner is entitled to get back whatever capital she put in. A new junior partner doesn't usually put in a significant amount- especially here where she was joining a long standing existing practice. And an exiting partner usually only gets paid out on a schedule to suit the practice/partnership- which could be as long as 12 months.

Of course they do things differently in Ambridge.

Eastpoint · 05/07/2018 06:16

What on earth has Susan done? Ringing Justin? And then Alastair going back to gambling, ugh!

ADarkandStormyKnight · 05/07/2018 09:14

I know - cringe! Remember what happened when Tom decided to try to get a better price for the land. Justin doesn't like to be challenged.

C8H10N4O2 · 05/07/2018 09:14

I thought Neil and Will were good tonight.

Yes agree - that conversation was done well.

But for the rest of it - I just don't care about most of the storylines. Some of them don't make sense, others are predictable repeats. I know its Summer storylines but honestly its just tedious.

R4 · 05/07/2018 10:38

I thought that the pairings were weird. Since when have Jazzer and Alistair been best buddies?
Ditto Will and Neil. Wouldn't Will have asked Eddie for help?

ADarkandStormyKnight · 05/07/2018 10:42

Jazzer lives with Alistair's dad.

R4 · 05/07/2018 11:04

I know that Jazzer has lived with Jim for years but there has been no mention previously of J&A being particularly pally. In fact, the SW have been laying it on thick that Al has no friends/allies in Ambridge (despite having been captain of ACC for yearsHmm). I could argue that Al going out drinking with Jazzer (an outsider, who will drink with anyone) only emphasises his isolation.
