But he hadn't got the courtesy to tell anyone what he had done.

Pip. Cows. Fence. Ah, but poor Pip. Have David or Ruth told the truth to the village yet?

DoctorTwo · 28/05/2017 16:52

I thought David behaved atrociously toward Josh. Yes, Josh promised to be there but a business opportunity turned up that could earn him loadsamoney, so he took it and arranged for cover out of his own pocket. Imo he did the right thing. Plus it gave Ed and Rex a days work which they both needed. The only person whose nose was out of joint was Deevid.

They have such huge double standards

Also, they listen and respect pip but expect Ben and Josh to just do as they're told.

why are you doing this at one of the busiest times of year for the farm.

So if he had gone to university would they expect him to skip lectures as and when the farm demands? I don't see why trying to set up his own business should be treated any differently.

Josh is bucking the Brookfield trend by making mistakes, owning up to those mistakes and learning from them. He's a teenager with a bit of ambition and a desire to make money. These are alien concepts at Brookfield so he's being treated with suspicion and derision. They'll break his spirit if they don't start to show him a little more support. Where's the bloody love for god's sake. Compared to the run-around Pip gave them he's been a dream of a teenager. They should be counting their blessings and giving him a bit more help and guidance instead of treating him like an unreliable farm labourer.

Josh is much more mature and responsible

Without a doubt he takes responsibility for his decisions and his mistakes! Didn't he pay Neil back after the hen fiasco last year? Who, I wonder, is going to foot the IBR bill?

He also realised he was asking too much for the tractor parts for Tony

Realised?Hmm You mean he was shamed into refunding Tony, after he was told off for profiteering from family.

He is an entitled, self-centred little wotsit. Takes after cousin Tom.

TheAntiBoop · 28/05/2017 19:08

Tbf on Josh - with his upbringing what else can you expect? He's better than pip at least!

Fink · 28/05/2017 19:15

Ha ha ha Ruth - saved from worrying about what to do for tea! As if. The last time either of them cooked a meal was after Jill was turfed out to make room for Heather.

Gruach · 28/05/2017 19:15

Again poor, poor Lilian. Hate hearing her like this.

R4 · 28/05/2017 19:18

Lol. That's what you call damning with faint praise.
Shall we agree that the whole hoard are pretty obnoxious at the moment.

Vango · 28/05/2017 19:21

He is an entitled, self-centred little wotsit.

Genuinely struggling to think of any negative examples to illustrate this.

He might believe that he's entitled to the same loans/free accommodation/unfailing support etc doled out to his sister, but then, why wouldn't he?

As it is, he's behaving as though he's entitled to devote as much time and energy as is required to make a success of his fledgling business. Again, why wouldn't he be?

Vango · 28/05/2017 19:22

So Justin has his eye on Tony's land then? They could do with the money!

AuntyElle · 28/05/2017 20:23

Way too much Justin over the last week or more. He has no redeeming features, not remotely interesting. And I agree, painful listening to Lilian playing the 'pick me' game already FFS.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 28/05/2017 20:44

Way too much Justin and the Brookfield lot. Pip really has no redeeming features. Elizabeth and Kate at least have comedy value and usually eventually realise how ridiculous they are.

I felt the same tonight Frances. I could hardly believe the length of the discussion. Three of them thought it was a good idea and still we had to listen to D & R trying to talk her round. Can you imagine how different the conversation would have been if Josh had been the one objecting? Already they all seem to have forgotten that Pip's the cause of their current woes!

BiasBinding · 29/05/2017 08:45

Not de-lurking, just name-changed temporarily and can't be bothered to change back. But wanted to note - with utter incredulity - the tones of deep anguish with which David reported that they'd 'lost' Pip to Lower Loxley.

Yeah, she moves out just down the road to live rent-free at the local stately home owned by her aunt. Her bad luck just never ends, does it?

The favouritism is blatant and sickening. Josh isn't the most emollient of people, agreed, and certainly not my favourite character, but he was spot-on with his assessment of the family dynamic. Pip can do no wrong whereas everything he does is wrong, it seems.
