Happy New Year to you all.

OP posts:

I think they deliberately never told us her (alleged) crime BOOP so as not to prevent listeners warming to her or divert attention from Helen's story.

The actress who plays Caroline Bone is terminally ill. I had no idea - a very honest piece from her.

TheAntiBoop · 03/01/2017 13:54

A Home Counties accent is often used to denote thick but with lots of daddy's money. It is really irritating the way dramas fall into the lazy stereotyping.

A bit like a program I watched the other night where they suspected he was related to the child who had drawn a zebra because he was black. Clearly all black men are from Africa - and specifically the part of Africa that has lots of zebra which they then ensure their uk born children are fully au fait with, as it's obviously odd for a kid with no link to Africa to have heard of a zebra. Talk about a giant leap - the man even had an English accent.

Anyway, Rex knows about whatever it is Toby is doing in Brighton.

I can forgive the sw quietly disposing of some of the sl soc introduced even if it leads to inconsistency

LillianGish · 03/01/2017 13:56

Before I forget, after that short accent diversion, I was originally coming one to tell FrancisCrawford how much I enjoyed her analysis of the Fairbrethren plot at the end of the last thread. Exactly the sort of exposition I enjoy on this thread (likewise the Emma/Helen compare and contrast).
Vango I think we should campaign for Matt's return - no less likely than the return of Carol or the invention of the Fairbrethren. Just love the thought of Lillian turning up at the Dower House to see Justin and finding Matt there.

TheAntiBoop · 03/01/2017 13:59

Yes to Matt. Much better character than Justin. More rounded. Maybe he has become a multi millionaire and will silently but out damara

ppeatfruit · 03/01/2017 14:01

Ref. Caz's incarceration that was explained as being to do with her bloke blaming her about some drug dealing, supplying or whatever I THINK !

Vango · 03/01/2017 14:01

I'm half thinking of tweeting him and begging (and I never tweet). I hate the way Lillian's ended up and I miss his conversations/confrontations with Brian. Maybe B won't buy the land after all. It'll be sold on the open market to....... Matt! There's your 'in' SWs!

Ref. the land that's for sale. We haven't heard who owned it before have we? One would expect Brian to know.

LillianGish · 03/01/2017 14:04

Did Pat ever sound Welsh?

Pips accent is all over the place!

jelly10 · 03/01/2017 14:11

I'm new to the archers and loving it - and very pleased to have found this thread! Quick question, what does SOC stand for when talking about story lines? Thanks!

Vango · 03/01/2017 14:11

I posted and it disappeared - apologies if it appears twice. Isn't the land owned by BL (Damara being the majority shareholder)?

Gruach · 03/01/2017 14:15

Bit late but

And who could forget professional northerner Heather Pet whose accent became more and more exaggerated until it eventually killed her

is the first time I've laughed this year. Thank you so much Lil'GGrin

redshoeblueshoe · 03/01/2017 14:18

jelly SOC Sean O'Connor the old editor who has just gone back to East Enders.
We also have a sign Archers Grin

Gherkinsmummy · 03/01/2017 14:19

Great thread title! I guess it's the whole idea that Helen might once again be overtaxing herself by coming up with a couple of ideas for the shop. I know she's had a very hard time but she's not really working at all and I imagine part of wanting to get back to her old self would be doing a job she loved.

LillianGish · 03/01/2017 14:20

Waves to Gruach

Gruach · 03/01/2017 14:20

Waistcoat - yes, it's dreadful. (There was a fair amount of reaction on an earlier thread I think.)

jelly SOC = Sean O'Connor, recently departed (to EastEnders) Editor. It is customary to enact a pantomimic "Boo! Hiss!" after saying his name ...

Vango · 03/01/2017 14:25

Back to Toby for a second (I like my own idea about a pregnant ex-girlfriend so I'm trying to make it fit) 😁 - "chunks of cash" = "I've ordered the travel system/cot/car seat, you need to give me the money, have you told your Dad yet?".

Vango · 03/01/2017 14:27

I think Pat was concerned about Helen's visit to the contact centre Gherkins.

Gherkinsmummy · 03/01/2017 14:39

Are any of the bloody hell cottage survivors seeing a counsellor or therapist?

ppeatfruit · 03/01/2017 14:40

How about taking Tobe's explanation at face value, his oldest friend 'Stu' is actually him and he has finally broken up with his old girlfriend who is threatening suicide etc. she also has his baby.

ppeatfruit · 03/01/2017 14:45

Oh Is anyone else a bit Hmm about the throwing away of Rob's birthday card to Henry?

Poor Henry he specially sent a christmas card to Rob. too. It's a very difficult situation , but I think it needs to looked at from the child's point of view.

SingingAvocado · 03/01/2017 14:49

Found you! Thanks for the new(ish) thread, Pseudo. Wondering when Kirsty will tell others the news?
