Happy New Year to you all.

Anyone else think Pat's completely OTT gushing over Kirsty would have sounded less false if she'd widened the 'family and people I think of as family' party to at least include her bff Kathy? Or her own husband.

TheAntiBoop · 10/01/2017 23:25

Ott sw again

Just when it seems to be improving there are some scenes that make me want to throw the radio out the window

Helen seems to be getting back to her old unbearable self again though!

EBearhug · 10/01/2017 23:34

Lillian doesn't need the money does she

We haven't heard of her recent financial status, but Matt pretty much cleared her our, apart from some Amside properties. I don't think she pays board and lodging at Home Farm, though, Justin's been buying most of her wardrobe recently, she's got his rent from the house, plus whatever Amside is making (though I have an idea based on nothing that's not turning over millions, but only doing a little better than covering costs.) I can't see Lilian living off lentils unless Kate persuaded her it was going to make her look rejuvenated, rather than an economic measure.

Lillian doesn't need the money does she

I thought she did need the money

Imbroglio · 11/01/2017 06:58

When i said 'Where is Pat' I meant Kathy. Gah.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 11/01/2017 07:16

if Justin hasn't got the balls to stand up to Miranda then Lill might as well tell him to sling his hook.

I don't like Miranda but Lillian is the OW so I've no sympathy for her.

If I was Kirsty I'd be convinced after Pat's speech yesterday that Tom has told Pat about the baby, and that was her coded message. In fact perhaps Pat does know because she's worked it out for herself, like Roy did

LillianGish · 11/01/2017 10:59

Lillian's financial status is like BHC's bedrooms. Matt cleared off, but all the business stuff and the house was in her name (after his previous misdemeanours). She's still renting out Amside properties - Knob asked to rent one. Not at all clear what's happening with Amside - no sign of Anthea, but Lillian not spending any time on it, she's either arranging Justin's social life or helping out Kate (or reading a magazine). She moved out of the Dower House because of the flood and stayed on at Home Farm because she enjoyed the company.

Megatherium · 11/01/2017 11:57

I would hope that Lillian is charging Justin a pretty fat rent for the Dower House, which should help her finances.

Gallavich · 11/01/2017 16:51

Oops I fell of the thread! Place marking :)

Minimammoth · 11/01/2017 17:37

Gawd, how many women does it take run Justin's diary. Do the honest thing Lillian and chuck it in.maintain some dignity. He is being a shit too.

CA, prior to the news just now, talking about the band Harvey and The Ballwangers Grin

TheAntiBoop · 11/01/2017 19:07

Didn't take Ruth long to turn. She's a cow

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 11/01/2017 19:11

I think Ruth was utterly justified! Jill needs to stop bloody harping on.

TheAntiBoop · 11/01/2017 19:14

I'd be harpoon by on of everyone kept going on at me about it

And tbh, 'that needed saying' and all this gushing is utter bullshit

Agree with Toby that the thanks is freaky

Has Pip forgotten that she's handed all her cash over to Toby so can't reinvest in the grazing system?

TheAntiBoop · 11/01/2017 19:20

I really hate pip

If they want her to be the future of the archers they need a radical rethink

Vango · 11/01/2017 19:21

Apologies in advance for the bad language (I'm on a Trump thread) but PISS OFF PIP and PISS OFF RUTH. Jill will surely conclude that death is preferable.

Toby will soon be running for the hills.

😡

I wondered about the cow money too. Does this mean Pip will have to come clean about its funding Toebee's business? She sounded very excited about the herbal lays, didn't miss a beat, when in an earlier ep she avoided discussion about the money, with David I think.

Ruth is a tit, having a pop at Jill in that way.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 11/01/2017 20:01

On the one hand, Jill is being unreasonable in her Toby-loathing - or rather in letting it show and not respecting her granddaughter's choice.
On the other hand, Toby is utterly loathsome.
On the other other hand ( if that is not an anatomical impossibility) Ruth and Pip have reason to be exasperated by Jill's attitude.
On yet another hand, they are failing to recognise that Jill is 86 and I don't think it's unusual for people of that age to become cantankerous or "difficult".
On the other hand, just because someone is old doesn't give them carte Blanche to be horrible.
On the other (and now I have run out of hands) Pip's attitude is appalling and Ruth's not much better. Badly done both of them.

I kind of sympathised with Ruth. Jill's refusal to accept being looked after was OTT (especially since refusal to accept help is what got her into the situation in the first place). I would be tempted to passive/aggressively take her at her word, too.

However I do wish that they would all learn to have a SOH and deflect problems with a little levity. Everything is so serious all the time.
