Happy New Year to you all.

OP posts:

Rob did nudge Tom re Kirsty, he was still subtle back then. Not enough for tom to make a thing of now, but at the time another straw on the pile of Tom's doubts.

TheAntiBoop · 06/01/2017 13:34

But not enough to blame knob for it.

Ultimately Tom was kicked off so he could be recast!! Not as an example of knobs knobbishness.

I think a problem with knob is that he is being blamed for all these things (including the flood) when his abuse of Helen should be sufficient! It feeds into the stereotype of an abuser

Vango · 06/01/2017 13:38

Rob did know where Tom was! And had a telephone conversation with him (when Pat and Tony were going out of their minds with worry). R helped Tom to get to Canada. Wish Kirsty knew that.

TheAntiBoop · 06/01/2017 13:42

Oh sorry - I thought you meant after bullgate

Ladytron11 · 06/01/2017 14:09

Did anyone else spot Helen moonlighting as the pathologist in the new series of Unforgotten last night?

TheAntiBoop · 06/01/2017 14:10

Yes! Commented up thread

Re Whether or not Jess and rob actually divorced - wasn't there a scene where he showed her the docs?

LillianGish · 06/01/2017 14:11

I think Alan talking to Knob is just a plot device so we can get Knob's point of view. It's not as if Knob was ever a churchgoer - he and Helen didn't even get married at St Stephen's. Alan was a convenient person to give Knob the heads up on the nativity. Their conversations allow us to be quite clear that Knob thinks he's done nothing wrong and feels hard done by which put together with his increasingly furious outbursts doesn't bode well. Finding it increasingly difficult to access MN on my iPad at the mo (anyone else having that problem) and wrote a long post yesterday which I was unable to post about Knob's charm having totally disappeared since the trial. He used to be very good at appearing entirely reasonable most of the time unless there were no witnesses there to see his true character - that would no longer appear to be the case. I don't think Alan is taken in for him by one second - he's doing what vicars do - imo his advice to focus on Jack is an attempt to head off the violent conclusion that is looking more and more inevitable rather than a belief that Knob is entitled to have any contact with his son.

TheAntiBoop · 06/01/2017 14:11

Also loved the way Lillian seems to think she and Justin actually had a professional relationship!

Vango · 06/01/2017 14:18

Back to Rob/Tom/Canada for a sec....aside from the fact that Pat thought he was dead (and lodged a missing persons report), the subsequent inspection of BF showed up the non-organic pig feed (again Rob's suggestion) and nearly lost the farm it's organic status!

TheAntiBoop · 06/01/2017 14:22

But again- it was toms decision to get the non organic feed. He was always a bit iffy on the whole organic thing so it wasn't totally out of character

I'm not a big believer in blaming other people for your own behaviour!!

Vango · 06/01/2017 14:35

Not absolving Tom of any responsibility for his own decisions. But I'm sure when Tom discussed pig feed/the wedding etc he wouldn't have realised that any 'advice' from Rob was only designed to bring about Tom's downfall.

glamorousgrandmother · 06/01/2017 14:50

Re Whether or not Jess and rob actually divorced - wasn't there a scene where he showed her the docs?
If you are divorced you have to show your Decree Absolute to the registrar. It's not as if Helen didn't know he had been married before.

TheAntiBoop · 06/01/2017 14:52

I guess Helen may not know that

TheAntiBoop · 06/01/2017 14:52

Not that I'm suggesting it's likely that he's a bigamist!!

Toomuchtea · 06/01/2017 15:20

Sorry to go back upthread with this but I've meaning to write it for days and then life has got in the way.

Rob's increasingly unhinged behaviour is pretty standard for someone with narcissistic tendencies whose beliefs about themselves are being threatened, and that's happening to Rob at the moment with knobs on.

It's a classic narc thing to come out fighting out of all proportion to the perceived offence, and that's exactly what Rob is doing. Unless some poor unfortunate starts restoring his sense of self pretty soon (and that's the reverse of what's happening) I think we can expect violence pretty soon.

The fact that Rob had taken a day of work was, I think, pretty telling.

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 06/01/2017 16:36

Goodness you've been busy.
Place marking
Happy New Year All

Megatherium · 06/01/2017 16:37

I suppose Alan would say that he's not telling Rob that he should be focussing on getting his son away from his rape victim mother, but to focus on being a good father to him. The trouble is that it's hopelessly optimistic to believe that that is how Rob would see it, and Alan should know that - he's expressed his shock at Rob's attitudes clearly enough in the recent past.

Megatherium · 06/01/2017 16:40

I propose that Rob kills Helen (taking out PiRex on the way) which bangs him up in jail, gives Tony his final heart attack and sends a distraught Pat off to a nunnery in Wales, never to be heard from again.

Nooooooooo. That would leave the SWs having to fill in time by focussing even more on the Dopeys. Even with the blessed relief of having Pip out of the way, that would still be months of Ruth wailing. And they'd probably bring Ben, or maybe Lily, out of the cupboard to be Pip Mark II.

TheMortificadosDragon · 06/01/2017 16:58

I don't think Rob will boil over quite yet, not till after he's done whatever skullduggery Justin hired him for (which will probably entail grief for Adam and Home Farm)

RockNRollNerd · 06/01/2017 18:27

Belated Happy New Year one and all, finally caught up and congrats Turnip.

I fear for Alan, suspect Rob snapping might see Alan in the firing line.

BOOP for Kenton commenting on Lily's way with words the other night - it felt a bit like the talent show auditions and the script writers giving us all a little nod and wink.

Does anyone ever listen to Absolute Radio - if so is Pip the voiceover for the Northampton Uni [sic] adverts, if she isn't then it's someone else from her drama class, the same dreadful over-acting and dragging words out long past where they ran out of vowels.

Also a wave at whoever commented on the old thread about Ruth's petted lip, I'd not heard that expression for years then my mum used it over Christmas.

Gruach · 06/01/2017 19:08

"Clean Eating the Bridge Farm Way"?

Isn't the "Bridge Farm" name mud after the E. coli disaster?

Gruach · 06/01/2017 19:13

HmmHmmHmmHmmHmm

EsmesBees · 06/01/2017 19:14

Go Kirsty! Tom just doesn't learn. Far too intense.

Gruach · 06/01/2017 19:14

(T and K I mean.)

Sittingunderafrostysky · 06/01/2017 19:15

Ha ha, he just doesn't get it!
