And hopefully various Ambridge residents will see something and have to get bumped off too. We could provide a list!

TheAntiBoop · 19/11/2016 20:17

Miles and Robert seem an odd pairing of names to have chosen. Especially for an Ursula whose child wants to call his Gideon. Robert is just more.....middle class? I don't know. Seems odd

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/11/2016 21:28

I think they go very well together. Robert is a classless, timeless name. I would say that Miles was a fairly posh name in the UK (less so in the US, maybe). Miles Kington, Miles Jupp - both public school types with RP accents. I suspect it's used a bit more by trendy types now because of Miles Davis.

Full disclosure: it's a name we briefly considered for our son, 23 years ago. In the end we went for something a lot more like Robert, but it didn't feel like we were looking at names of a completely different type.

I suppose you are right that Robert is classless. Regal names tend to be IMO!

And I think rob would be the kind who wouldn't want his name shortened because he would think it 'common' (although obvious clash with Lynda's Robert there).

Thinking about it further, miles doesn't seem the kind of name Bruce would choose as its not manly enough. Robert would be though. So maybe ursula chose miles and Bruce chose rob.

I struggle to match the names to the type of people they are trying to signal they are

DadDadDad · 19/11/2016 22:12

I've implied it on previous threads, although it could out me in real life, but the names of the Titchener brothers are my first name and middle name*, so my parents certainly liked both. I'm not posh, by the way. Blush

*I won't say which way round to attempt some anonymity, so don't try guessing.

Kenton and Shula; Elizabeth and David - the four of them don't sound like they come from the same family either.

Just caught up ... urgh, the way Ursula sounded so approving of Rob's report of his dealing with Usha.

Just how delusional is he to think he will get custody of Henry? Though I fear 'ursulas' projected plot about henry might end up not too far off the mark.

AnnieNoMouse · 19/11/2016 23:16

Come to think of it Francis - if Shula and Kenton were their first born, why did they have bricks with letters on anyway when the twins were only just born?

ManaFleet · 19/11/2016 23:39

I'm a lurker and relatively recent (3-ish yrs) initiate into Ambridge.

I got a very uncomfortable feeling between my shoulderblades listening to the Friday night chat last week between Justin and Rob - all that stuff about 'getting things done' that the locals won't like. Justin saying he wants Rob on-side because he won't shy away from distasteful work, that he's not emotionally attached to Ambridge. Relying on Lillian on sort them out.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 20/11/2016 00:12

Ooh! David Archer (well, Tim Bentinck) has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it part in the new film Mystical Beasts and Where to Find Them!

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/11/2016 00:33

Is he a Mystical Beast? Grin

KingscoteStaff · 20/11/2016 07:15

Apart from the Button girls, most of the Mother Goose cast seem to be there because Linda knows a guilty secret (scrumping/illegal alcohol in pub etc). Except Fairy Bowbelles, of course.

R4 · 20/11/2016 08:31

The dangers of waking up too early on a Sunday morning and idly googling...
Here is your useless fact-for-the-day:

I saw Fantastic Beasts last night and did, indeed, not-spot Tim Bentinck, which got me googling (he's the fourth person on the cast list so you will blink-and-miss him). In TA, David is the son of Jill, the demon cake baker of Ambridge. In RL, Tim is the son of Henry, an advertising producer who wrote the slogan "Mr Kipling makes exceedingly good cakes".
Do you think that Tim and Patricia Greene share green-room chuckles over who bakes the best cakes?Grin

Annie I think it was Scrabble letters they used, rather than children's blocks

Sorry if anyone's mentioned it, but I found Rob's 'foot in the door' remark pretty unpleasant. I wonder if Usha will mention it to Harrison? Presumably she tried to shut the door on him and was prevented.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/11/2016 10:34

Yes, the way he boasted of it and Ursula gushed approval that he was so like his father. Usha will presumably have been Hmm and noted it, hopefully bring someone with her to to the inspection. Wonder if she'll deduct from the deposit and that will precipitate more bad behaviour from Rob (sexist and/or racist). I do sort of see why he would object to being charged for cleaning up his bloodstains though, from his POV that really would be adding insult to injury.

ThatsNotMyToddler · 20/11/2016 11:09

Fair enough Francis - was going from memory of what I've heard (wasn't alive at the time...). I don't tend to read the bbc site much.

ThatsNotMyToddler · 20/11/2016 11:10

I thought Rob sounded a bit ambivalent about Ursula's "so like your father" remark - for all his aspirations, I'm not sure that's one of them

trevortrevorslatterfry · 20/11/2016 11:12

R4 I can't claim that I spotted TB - luckily I'm not that much of an Archers nerd! - but saw him on the cast list when I was searching IMDB for pictures of super cute Nifflers Blush

Vango · 20/11/2016 11:14

Just heard it again! So Usha's going round that afternoon to inspect because "a foot in the door can be very persuasive". Charming.

Loved the sound effect of heavy traffic immediately outside the new apartment.
