Roy + someone dull who's rarely heard from
Roy and Kaz?

lottiegarbanzo · 04/12/2016 20:47

Good point - Kaz is visiting for a reason, she will indeed settle down with someone. Roy is certainly the opposite of a volatile, abusive husband and has plenty of experience with children.

GypsyFl0ss · 04/12/2016 20:47

Would you really let Toebee work in your pub? I wouldn't leave him in charge of my teabags.

DoctorTwo · 04/12/2016 22:30

I wouldn't leave him in charge of my teabags.

I have a tea stil*l, and wouldn't let him near it under any circumstances.

Roy and Caz would be lovely, though IME it wouldn't last long and Roy would be left heartbroken. Again.

*Not really, I just need loads of tea in the morning. Smile

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/12/2016 22:35

Kirsty might be Helen's friend, but she's also aware that Helen would be challenging to be in a relationship with, and I think she's got more sense

And it would be a bit icky to have had sex with a brother and sister.

Honestly I wouldn't mind Roy and Kate getting back together.

EBearhug · 05/12/2016 01:04

Would you really let Toebee work in your pub?

Well, I wouldn't, but Kenton hasn't always made the best decisions. It'll really upset Jill, though.

GypsyFl0ss · 05/12/2016 07:15

Kenton and Toebee are two peas in a pod I fear.

R4 · 05/12/2016 09:19

Kenton is in his late fifties, Fallon is settled and self-sufficient ... the SW may be doing a bit of succession planning for The Bull.
Toebee would be either fantastic or awful (can't tell yet) at running a pub. Though I can't see how it would fit in with being Pip's OH.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/12/2016 09:53

It's always irked me that the SWs have never explained on air how we've got to the point where Kenton is regarded as being the publican. The pub was left to Jolene by Sid (actually, I think Jamie owns a share too - maybe even Lucy). Has she gifted half of her share to Kenton? They both talk as if he is co-proprietor but is he in law, or are they just behaving as if he is?

R4 · 05/12/2016 11:00

Has she gifted half of her share to Kenton?

She has, effectively - they are married. I know that they haven't been married long but Kenton would probably claim that he puts in equal work to Jolene so they have both kept the pub going in recent days (that, and the Dopey's loan). He tends to do the noticeable, mine-host bits (behind the bar, PA for village events) and she does the money-spinning extras (Bull Upstairs, manages the catering side).
I should imagine that she is still the licensee, though.

ppeatfruit · 05/12/2016 13:00

Blimey are you lot serious? Roy settling down with someone who has a criminal ex and 3 little (probably disturbed) children. I can see that Caz would be happy, not sure about Woy though.

TheAntiBoop · 05/12/2016 13:08

Maybe everyone is looking the wrong way. Maybe it won't be Kirsty and Helen but Roy and Tom!

Personally I'm not so keen on friends becoming lovers (whatever the m/f combination!)

It must be about time we had a bisexual character though. Maybe Phoebe could come back from Oxford with a girlfriend?

JigglyTuff · 05/12/2016 13:51

Oh something I noticed when Anisha was meeting Alistair in the Bull - she commented that there were loads of events and he said how packed it would be in the run up to Xmas. A few months' back, prior to the Dopey bail out, the pub was dead and on its knees.

Was that just another soon forgotten plot device to up the drama on the rift between Dave n Kenton?

Cromwell1536 · 05/12/2016 14:03

Wasn't the pub dying because of flood damage? Pratically no pub!

BroomstickOfLove · 05/12/2016 14:20

I just saw a link to this story about a campaign by the actress who plays Caroline, who is now in the final stages of terminal cancer. I hadn't realised she was ill Sad

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/news/uk/739502/Sara-Coward-smile-campaign-dying-cancer-archers-star/amp?client=safari

TheMortificadosDragon · 05/12/2016 14:30

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Presumably this is why the Sterlings disappeared for their long holiday and are retiring to Tuscany.

In the spirit of her campaign, thanks to Sara for being Caroline for us over the years. I liked Caroline, and enjoyed her recent not being impressed by Joe's emotional blackmailing of Oliver. Smile

TeenAndTween · 05/12/2016 16:31

This might be a good time to mention for newer listeners, that Brian and Caroline once had an affair ...

lottiegarbanzo · 05/12/2016 16:35

Oh that's sad news about Sara / Caroline.

Didn't really mean it about Roy and Kaz no but, I do think she's coming to the village for a reason, other than to visit Helen, so, relationship, disaster, unexpected connection. She is sort of an uber-Nic; single mum to many, with added tricky background, isn't she. I don't suppose Roy would want to occupy himself with young children again. He barely seems to see Abbie does he (or Beth)?

Gruach · 05/12/2016 17:18

Oh my goodness - that is the saddest news. Caroline has been one of my favourite characters for decades. Sara Coward really brought something distinctive to her character (despite the somewhat odd, though now at least explicable, personality change lately).

Irreplaceable.

That is sad news. Caroline is one of my favourite characters. I thought her recent absence was SOC's doings, I didn't realise that she was ill.
The article by the Express is shockingly badly written.Sad

Smile for Sara

LowDudgeon · 05/12/2016 18:15

That's very sad news - Caroline has always been one of the least irritating characters Sad

Hard to recast that voice. I wonder what they'll do?

BroomstickOfLove · 05/12/2016 18:17

Quietly move to Tuscany, I expect.

Tuktuktaker · 05/12/2016 19:08

Really sad to see that about Sara Coward. But who could forget (though regret) Brian's tassels?

Stickerrocks · 05/12/2016 19:17

The Archers: The trial of Helen Archer is at the BFI on Sunday 9 April. Tickets available now. (Apologies if this has already been mentioned further up thread.)
