Land - once upon a time almost all the land in Ambridge belonged to local Squire. The precise details of what followed are before my time, but I believe Lilian's second husband, Ralph Bellamy, bought a huge chunk and that is what is now described as the Estate. She sold it off many years ago after he died. The Brookfield Archers had taken the opportunity to buy their farm in the 1950s or early 60s, but most of the other farmers in Ambridge remained tenant farmers. Eventually, of course, the Bridge Farm Archers also decided to buy their farm from the Estate. The Grundys were never able to do that. They were in fact evicted for fallling behind with the rent.
Meanwhile, the other huge chunk of the Squire's land became the Home Farm estate, purchased in the 1970s by Brian, who was a wealthy young chap starting out in farming, having for reasons I don't pretend to understand sold his family farm in East Anglia (which he'd inherited after the early death of both his parents) and used the proceeds to move to Ambridge and along the way marry Jennifer, conveniently single after her divorce from Debbie's father, Roger Travers-Macy.
Home Farm has a contract to farm the arable land that belongs to the Estate. The Estate itself now belongs to Borchester Land. Brian owns a bit of that, but the majority of the shares are owned by Damara Captal, prop Justin. I think that's it, anyway.
