I've been listening for at least 30 years, puppet, but I can't help with Lilian's character's history - I don't remember hearing her back then at all Confused

PuppetInParadize · 27/11/2016 23:24

I am the same, Low. My mum mentioned she was in Guernsey, must have been in the 70s, then i recall Ralph dying (or his demise being talked about) and Lil became a wealthy lady of the manor. And she sold off some of the estate, but that's all I can recall. I assume Ralph Bellamy was James' father? Did Fagash have a 'starter marriage' too? Grin

Puremince · 27/11/2016 23:49

Why does Pip have a complete character transplant every time she has a new boyfriend? First we had Pip the Rebel with Jude, the Pip the Dull but Worthy Farmer with Spencer, then Pip the Needy with Matthew and now Pip the Stupid with Toby.

EBearhug · 28/11/2016 00:01

Ralph was Lilian's second husband, who died in the early '80s. She came back to Ambridge originally with toyboy Scott about 20 years later. Scott had an affair with Brenda. Brenda also went out with James (Lilian's son) before he ended up with Leonie (or possibly Coriander.) Can't remember the timelines between Kirsty and Tom and Brenda and Tom and Kirsty and Tom. Meanwhile, Lilian settled down with Matt (who was married to Yvette when we first heard him) until SOC sent him off to Costa Rica, though she did fit in the affair with Paul.

LowDudgeon · 28/11/2016 00:09

I remember awful Scott (he was terribly dim, so must have been a good lay...) & his motorbike, but that was only about 15 years ago. Lilian before that, & James's childhood, are a mystery.

Anti I am expecting some housing development. I don't know how it works in Borchester, but round here the councils are now approving very large housing estates on green belt land Sad

Imbroglio · 28/11/2016 08:55

Housing, petrol station and a budget supermarket...

enochroot · 28/11/2016 11:48

I suspect Justin wants the release of capital so that he can build something awful on BL land but I don't see why he should be so keen on giving Brian the chance to buy it at a knock-down price if not to get Brian in over his head.
Brian seems to be intending to farm the new acquisition but will need to squeeze every bit of profit out of the whole farm in order to service the debt. I think we're heading for the 'Brian's Will' story. He's cashing in insurance policies which I assume would have been beneficial to Jenny.

MrsArthurShappey · 28/11/2016 11:49

Suddenly Brian is praising Adam's expertise with soil?

^^ This! I can't believe Adam didn't pick up on that!

Does anyone else imagine Gasp0de cracking her knuckles when someone asks a question requiring her encyclopaedic knowledge?

Abraiid2 · 28/11/2016 11:54

Did I miss something? I thought Brian and Adam were barely speaking but they seem ok in the Sunday episode.

BertrandRussell · 28/11/2016 12:04

I really don't understand the land deal thing.......

What about Rauoauri's inheritance?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 28/11/2016 13:45

Sorry - nothing of any relevance to add (apart from lots of nodding in agreement with various sentiments), but Mini's spelling of 'Rauoauri' made me Grin.

dairyfarmerswife · 28/11/2016 14:04

I wondered about the 20 minute veg too! I was assuming jenny was cooking a Sunday roast, in which case 20 minutes before is surely drain the veg, rest the meat and make the gravy?

TheAntiBoop · 28/11/2016 14:12

Yes meat would be out of the oven but my veg wouldn't be cooked and would be sitting in the pan on the side for a good ten mins more!

I suppose it could have been a cottage pie or something that doesn't need resting. Still doesn't explain why the veg was going on with 20 mins to go. In my head at least!!

ErrolTheDragon · 28/11/2016 14:14

Just turned on the repeat, noticed Adam's caution about volatile prices 'not to mention Brexit' ... which given that pre-vote the only discussion I remember was him thinking it'd be a good thing, is a bit ironic.

Fink · 28/11/2016 14:43

Yes, I noticed that Errol, the only openly Brexit voter in the village is now listing it as a cause for caution. I couldn't tell whether it was a continuity error or whether Adam was supposed to be amongst the swathe of I-didn't-realise-I'd-get-Brexit-when-I-voted-Brexit idiots that suave BBC execs probably despise.

ppeatfruit · 28/11/2016 14:43

It could be spinach or cabbage they take about 10mins or so in a steamer. Or frozen peas Grin

Yes I noticed Brine suddenly buttering up Adam about the soil - 2 faced bugger - and wasn't he supposed to be stony broke? Hence the effing up of the herbal leys\mob grazing. He's as slimy as Justin, oh and the moral indignation about Lil's affair doesn't sit well with him does it?

TheAntiBoop · 28/11/2016 14:50

Surely you mean frozen petit pois

WouldHave · 28/11/2016 14:52

I didn't have the impression that Brian was indignant about Lil's affair? If anything he seemed to welcome it as something that would help with his negotiations with Justin.

ppeatfruit · 28/11/2016 14:57

He said firstly, "Does his wife know?" In quite a shocked tone to start with. Then he realised there could be an advantage in it for him of course Hmm

WouldHave · 28/11/2016 15:00

But I thought the shock came more from the fact that it was all a surprise than any sort of moral indignation.
