I do hope this gets it through David and Ruth's heads that Pip isn't quite the infallible superbrain they think she is.

polyhymnia · 26/11/2016 14:37

Wondered if the leaving of the scarf thing was an allusion to Brief Encounter - doesn't seem very apposite if so.

glowfrog · 26/11/2016 14:49

Shalli Toby has form for staying in bed, sure, but David didn't know he was that morning and just decided to be shitty about his daughter's boyfriend for no real reason. Apart from anything else it's bound to backfire.

BertrandRussell · 26/11/2016 14:55

"David didn't know he was that morning and just decided to be shitty about his daughter's boyfriend for no real reason."

Loads of excellent reasons, actually!

ppeatfruit · 26/11/2016 14:57

Well it's a bit of an over reaction , loads of people make their own hooch. Dave will just put their backs up and create backlash from Pip n' Tobes.

AraielTelnareil · 26/11/2016 15:11

I don't think it was an overreaction. It would be my reaction too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/11/2016 15:22

Mine too!

ppeatfruit · 26/11/2016 15:24

Erm in the 60s\70s EVERYONE made their own booze. Different times eh Grin We didn't because we couldn't be bothered.

ppeatfruit · 26/11/2016 15:25

In Ireland they still do fgs. The police have plenty to do without worrying bout it.

summerholsdreamin · 26/11/2016 15:28

Am sure this has been mentioned a trillion times but the way Pip provinces his name 'Tawbeeee' really gets on my tits!

As you were Grin

summerholsdreamin · 26/11/2016 15:45

*prounces !

summerholsdreamin · 26/11/2016 15:46

Pronounces FFS!

TheAntiBoop · 26/11/2016 15:48

Did people make their own booze to sell though?

And whilst Toby is pips guess - she's only in the cottage because there's not enough room in the house. It's not hers and no reason why David and Ruth can't dictate. If she wants to be treated like an adult she either has to act like one or move out and stop being subsidised by her parents

ppeatfruit · 26/11/2016 15:50

Well they weren't supposed to. Anti Grin Tobeee has got a big mouth and engages it before his brain (if he has one!).

TheAntiBoop · 26/11/2016 15:58

i would be pissed off if someone set up a commercial still illegally on my land

I'm surprised people are so happy to drink it. The man is an idiot and more than likely to poison someone. I find people's tolerance towards him weird

ppeatfruit · 26/11/2016 17:05

Well, if you think about it, perfectly legal spirits are poisonous if the wrong person drinks the wrong amount. Poor Amy Winehouse died from it didn't she?

BertrandRussell · 26/11/2016 17:27

I want a still now!

LillianGish · 26/11/2016 17:29

David has fully got the measure of Toby (as have we). I think Pip is beginning to get the measure of him as well - you could hear her frustration as she tried to get hold of him on the phone. She has a sneaking suspicion her dad (and grandmother) are right, but just can't bear that to be the case. Hurray for David - saying what we all think (and hurray for Tony in his analysis with Lillian and being able to see through what Knob is trying to do). Much more enjoyable to listen when people are behaving in character rather than having to ignore what is under their nose for the sake of advancing the plot. I did wonder if Pip and Toby might be moving into BHC after pointed comments earlier about Usha not being able to let it, but much more likely to be the new vet I expect. Please let this be the end for Pip and Toby - can't bear listening to them.

LillianGish · 26/11/2016 17:30

Also forgot to add Toby knew the still was illegal - he told Pip she'd have to keep the curtains closed.

glamorousgrandmother · 27/11/2016 09:18

Really? I knew lots of dubious people up to no good in the 70s but I didn't know anyone with a still!

ppeatfruit · 27/11/2016 09:31

Well I didn't know if they had their own stills, it's true, glamourous but they used to make beer and wine and most revolting it was Grin

ppeatfruit · 27/11/2016 09:41

Yes exactly Francis I'm not sure it was legal though.

80sWaistcoat · 27/11/2016 09:42

My dad used to makes beer and keep it in the downstairs bathroom, from a kit, and brother made wine. I've still got the demijohns. It was the 80s. But distilling has always been tightly controlled.
