Sorry for the poor title - the end of the last thread has arrived sooner than I thought and I haven't had the benefit of hearing all of the last 2 nights....

Spavin is my guess

Cold hose, Bute box rest. But old age. Don't think it will end happily.

Topaz I've often heard "fell" from my Renfrewshire SIL and others from Paisley way, but it sounded odd to my Weegie ears.

Anyone else thinking Helen's people are being a bit insensitive wanting Helen to keep all the dull clothes Knob made her wear and trying to fill her room up with them?

5OBalesofHay · 17/10/2016 22:54

Might be worth getting Emma to get Chris to take a look. Farriers are great with feet and legs.

I agree it is an outdated expression. This is what I found about it which is interesting

Likely a biblical reference in origin, this is now seen as turning pregnancy into an activity solely involving the woman and freeing the man from responsibility

ColdTeaAgain · 18/10/2016 00:02

I was on Helen's side about letting Rob bin everything. She wants a clean slate as far as possible, even pre-rob items were still in the cottage and therefore a part of her life with Rob. And I'm sure Henry has no shortage of toys at the farm.
I don't blame Helen for not wanting it all in her room when she wasn't keen on having it back in the first place. Pat's only got herself to blame if the bags are kicking around her hallway for weeks on end Grin

glowfrog · 18/10/2016 07:11

Agreed, ColdTea - she said she didn't want any reminder so why would she want all that stuff in her actual bedroom?? She was already pressured into taking it in from Pat. I can understand why she would want nothing from that place.

TheAntiBoop · 18/10/2016 08:13

But there was Henry's stuff too

BertrandRussell · 18/10/2016 08:22

If I was Pat I'd just have quietly gone and got the stuff and stashed it in an outbuilding or something.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/10/2016 08:34

Lets hope there's something in those binliners which proves to be vital evidence in the coercive control case (which surely to goodness must happen?)

drspouse · 18/10/2016 09:51

I've also heard "fell for my Elsie" or "fell for my youngest". I have lived in Edinburgh so it may have been there but I seem to vaguely remember hearing it as a child/young teen which would have been Midlands or maybe SW England.

selsigfach · 18/10/2016 09:59

Fell pregnant is ok but I don't like 'fallen' - makes it sounds like an accident or mistake even if it's a much wanted, planned-for baby. Also, the connotations of being a 'fallen woman'/'fall from grace' are a bit grim.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2016 10:05

I Interesting the way Louiza's\Hellin's voice changed when she was discussing the bin bags with her family, back to the sad, hunted timbre. That woman is good actress. BOOP for her.

But of course it should all be recycled and maybe Pat and Henry should go through his things on their own.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 18/10/2016 10:07

Pat and Tom should have listened, and had a bit of sensitivity, when Helen said she didn't want the stuff, instead of giving her a barrage of reasons she surely did want it. Very crass of both.

But then, obviously Tom was on a massive high from having just invented organic baby food....

LeninaCrowne · 18/10/2016 10:47

...some of Helen's later clothes purchases were from the charity shop, they'll be heading back there.

Talking of Bartleby, how did Joe acquire him in the first place? Where was he while they were living at Grey Gables?

echt · 18/10/2016 12:20

This last ep made me :o and Sad when the Grundies or whoever were shifting something heavy: "Six inches more" would have had my dear dead DH and me in stitches. We always enjoyed the unintended double entendres that litter TA, and were in sad decline while the Helen/Rob dramfest took over.

mrsweasleysbroom · 18/10/2016 13:11

Joe was given Bartleby. He saw the pony in a field and asked the owner about it and they said it was their daughter's but she'd gone to University or something and Joe could have it. He then went up to the Stables and asked Shula for the old cart and harness that her Gran used to use and Shula had it refurbished for him and handed it over! It was yonks ago, maybe after the Meadow Rise/dead ferret time when people were feeling sorry for him. Someone on the BBC message boards said it was highly unlikely a riding pony would adapt to pulling a cart just like that.

Bartleby lived in the garden at Keepers but then they got Grundies Field so presumably that's where he's lived since then? He must be really old by now it's amazing he hasn't run up vet bills before.

BertrandRussell · 18/10/2016 13:21

If Bartalby's got a role in panto as both ends this Christmas, I've got a lovely little ride/drive pony eating his head off in a field that I can't sell. Joe can have him...........

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2016 14:41

Oooh you tempter Bertrand We've got a field and stabling for a smallish pony. (doing nothing) Grin I keep looking at the french mini ponies and donkeys and dreaming!!

But we're not here enough to have one, sorry Sad

EBearhug · 18/10/2016 14:48

I thought Bartley was a donkey.

DoctorTwo · 18/10/2016 16:52

I haven't fact checked, b ut isn't Bartleby a ferret? Or am I missing some really obtuse injoke...
