Hopefully we can go back to an ordinary tale of country folk?

Spoilers are frowned upon.... There's a thread for that.

Thanks LikeDylanInTheMovies for your gracious comeback. I do appreciate how difficult it is to get tone right on a fast-moving thread.

DadDadDad will you nominate me as a Fellow of MA FIA?!

DadDadDad · 23/09/2016 12:48

imposter - you'll need a university to award you the MA.

For the FIA, the main hurdle is to pass about 15 exams - details here on how to become a Fellow: www.actuaries.org.uk/studying/plan-my-study-route/fellowshipassociateship Be warned, bright maths graduates take four or more years (while working nearly full-time).

Gumpendorf · 23/09/2016 12:52

Thanks for the new thread, Pseudo. Inspired titling as the Archers gets back to normal too.

Absolutely loved this week, and I may listen again to the film. It's been well balanced between storylines and characters. Sadness, humour, fun as well as coins in the village shop. Star

I hope this is a sign that the new editor has been recruited with the advice not to enter EE land.

The conference sounds wonderful. I'm not too far from Lincoln and would love to go. Grin

impostersyndrome · 23/09/2016 13:51

15 exams! (runs away whimpering...)

ErrolTheDragon · 23/09/2016 14:18

I had hoped that the AAG stood for Academic Archers Group and we could all apply for one. Requirement for admission should be high scores in The Bull pub quiz, fee is a round of Shires and a double g&t for Lil.

DadDadDad Smile

Cecile oh yes I've even got my fencing award buried somewhere

RockNRollNerd · 23/09/2016 15:05

As ever a fab thread title Pseudo

I recently bumped up my ACA to the FCA version, I thought it would look nice alongside the MA which was a bump from the BA awarded by dint of merely surviving 6 years or something from graduation. Grin.

Archers tribes – ethnographic accounts of a fandom differentiated by online activity - surely there is a place for us in this one. DDD could provide all his statistics that he's collated over time about our ages, how we started listening etc. We could have a board outing!

Am going to back Olivia up on 3 Counties being Beds, Herts & Bucks, that was my first thought too due to the radio station. I think it's a bit like 'tri-state area' in the US isn't it where a couple of regions have one. And of course in Phineas & Ferb it's the area surrounding the town which was founded by Otto Tristate Grin.

Loved last night's episode, so beautifully balanced with a bit of the aftermath of the trial etc but done plausibly through Emma and the Flower & Produce chat was very welcome.

DadDadDad · 23/09/2016 15:15

imposter: (runs away whimpering...)

I believe this is the intended effect on normal people.

DDD could provide all his statistics that he's collated over time about our ages, how we started listening etc. We could have a board outing!

This is one of those myths that crop up here from time to time (much like the myth about Dr Locke having some secret about Rob as implied by their awkward meeting at that party) Grin. I keep a note of each TA thread (posts and date started) for my own amusement, and once did a thread on ages, but I swear I've got no more data on the people who post here.

Toomuchtea · 23/09/2016 16:05

Another boop for last night's episode. I actually felt quite kindly towards Chris's scones.

TakingTheFifth · 23/09/2016 16:42

I really want to enter my carrot cake for the flower & produce show. Anyone else here thinking of entering?
(Keep reminding myself it's not real, it's not real....)

Butteredparsn1ps · 23/09/2016 16:43

Just LA'd and I heard Peggy a little differently. My sense is that she knows what's going on with Lillian and was telling Jennifer how it should be spun. That way she can continue to ignore reality. Not for the first time.

Fiderer · 23/09/2016 16:58

I made gooseberry jam once. Days of work. Steam & sweat. No one ate it but I could posthumously enter it into the F&P show as a gesture of "Listening to TA again".

Cromwell1536 · 23/09/2016 17:00

So has Lillian 'fessed up to Jennifer about Justin? Or is Jenny connecting the dots for herself? I have missed episodes from time to time, when I couldn't bear the ascendency of Rob.

Redcliff · 23/09/2016 17:23

I also loved last nights episode. As others have said a lovely mix. I really want Josh's mushrooms to do well - David needs to let him make his own decisions. Also what does BOOP mean - I get its a good thing but can't work out what it stands for.

CeciledeVolanges · 23/09/2016 17:28

Daddaddad I lived with an actuary for a while, he had done a Maths masters and was a very clever man but was quite sanguine even about the possibility of failure as I understand the rate is quite high.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/09/2016 17:39

Redcliff - IIRC the BOOP arose because the eponymous BitOutOfPractice many threads ago complained about the negativity of many comments at that time (cant remember why - maybe during the hadley hoff fiasco) and threatened to flounce. So people resolved to make positive comments when they could, and mark them for her attention. Summat along those lines.

Scarydinosaurs · 23/09/2016 17:59

David is being a total arse about the mushrooms. Josh and Ben will be posting on the stately homes thread in years to come.

BoffinMum · 23/09/2016 18:15

Things feel very flat without a daily outbreak of extremeness on TA, don't they? I feel like someone overly sensitised to violence now.

RockNRollNerd · 23/09/2016 18:25

Apologies DDD, I knew you did the age stats and somehow had got in mind that when we had a 'how did you start listening' thread you'd collected that data as well Blush.

I once did an internal training course with one of the actuarial trainees, I remember him being fearsomely good at maths and also very sanguine about the failure rates in the exams. He was also earning mega bucks compared to us lowly ACA trainees!

The mushroom storyline has reminded me of one of those blissful Radio4 programs you stumble across from time to time, the kind of thing you'd never seek out but you catch and become utterly absorbed in. It was all about farming mushrooms. Apparently there are only 6 providers of the spores worldwide, and the different 'varieties' of things like button, chestnut and flat are actually all the same mushroom just grown differently.

Redcliff · 23/09/2016 18:32

Thanks Dragon - love it! Must remember to do some BOOPing.

DadDadDad · 23/09/2016 18:42

RockNRoll - absolutely no need to apologise, I just don't want newcomers to start thinking I'm stalking them across these threads! Shock

Grin
HometoMandalay · 23/09/2016 19:05

Another BOOP for last night'a episode - really enjoyed that.

And multiple BOOPs for the conference. Thanks Gruach for the heads up. I am really close to Lincoln so might see if I can pop along. Trying to think where the field trip will be. There is an agricultural college as part of the University that is currently threatened with becoming a housing estate. Maybe an Archers field trip could turn it into our very own Route B.

TheAntiBoop · 23/09/2016 19:13

The grundys are so disrespectful! And the manipulativeness is horrible.

Post trial archers has been so much better! Except for the grundys characterisation.

Knob is much better to listen to as well! What an arse!!

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/09/2016 19:17

How would knob buy a house - does he have a deposit and any lender would want him to have passed his probation period in new role surely?

I also can't see any landlords falling over themselves to rent a house to him.

Stickerrocks · 23/09/2016 19:17

Which houses in the village could Knob move into? As another mere FCA, I'm hopeless at map reading, preferring a good balance sheet.
