As doors slam shut in Rob's face and behind SOC, a new door opens for the next Archers editor. Are we expecting some New Tricks, or just Archenders?

Welcome one and all. No spoilers please!

OP posts:

I hope real life is like that but on the other hand what has poor henry divulged?

Tuktuktaker · 16/09/2016 20:00

TheAntiBoop - exactly. That was a bit like Dallas and the shower, wasn't it? Badly done, SO'C, badly done.

Tuktuktaker · 16/09/2016 20:01

I've no idea, spiker, but I often imagine Barchester when Borchester is mentioned, IYSWIM.

TheAntiBoop · 16/09/2016 20:05

The first line of my post was autocorrected to death!

I found it all a bit too convenient tbh and given the crappy way the sl was led up to it makes it even worse.

And the public service bit - do you think abused women have listened to this and thought 'yay! A judge will listen to me!!' Ait do you think they've just thought 'that was a nice fairy tale but in real life that wouldn't happen'

Vango · 16/09/2016 20:10

There's no doubt plenty of angst to come so I'm allowing myself a celebratory moment tonight. We've still got the painful fall-out of Rob's revelations about Adam and Ian, not to mention Shula's remorse and Susan's take on things. We're not quite where we were when SOC started. So many of the characters have revealed things about themselves it will be interesting to see how life progresses.

OhTheRoses · 16/09/2016 20:10

How many abused women in rl though are farmer's daughters with close, loving families who are relatively functional?

BurnTheBlackSuit · 16/09/2016 20:15

Thanks for clarifying Vango! I was misled! Was tonight his final final episode then? Are we now free from the abuse.

Vango · 16/09/2016 20:20

I think it's safe to say that we are at the end of his tenure! (I think!!) 😁

Gruach · 16/09/2016 20:20

Have scrolled past all comments. Haven't heard tonight! Terribly tempted ...

glowfrog · 16/09/2016 20:22

Judy exactly!! That's what I was asking earlier. Where did all this evidence come from all of a sudden? Why was it not mentioned during the trial??

Putthetulipsthere · 16/09/2016 20:23

I really don't mind that some of it wasn't true to life. Much of what SOC has done hasn't been, but at least things aren't going Rob's way this time.

Although It's the perfect set up as far as script writers are concerned as they can bring Rob back in to create havoc whenever they feel like it

Vango · 16/09/2016 20:23

Do listen Gruach. I'd be interested to hear what you think.

Vango · 16/09/2016 20:25

Gruach (Only because I think we sometimes agree and the thread seems divided tonight!)

EsmesBees · 16/09/2016 20:25

I'm really relived that we won't have to listen to anymore Rob/Henry scenes. Chilling.

enochroot · 16/09/2016 20:26

I've just listened on catch-up. Very satisfactory result though I wonder when the social worker cottoned on to the harm being done to Henry. Poor little lad must have come across as extremely repressed.
Surely Rob can't hold his head up in the village any longer and Justin would have to be an absolute idiot to employ a man of such a reputation.

paulapantsdown · 16/09/2016 20:33

Ok fair enough to not move back in herself, but I just want to see Rob out on his ear!

Vango · 16/09/2016 20:38

Then again Paula, think how enraged he'll get every time he walks into the kitchen and is reminded of the night 'it all went wrong'.

enochroot · 16/09/2016 20:39

Has the judge effectively revoked the PR or will Helen have to have it formally revoked?
I hope she now seeks a divorce pronto.

Shallishanti · 16/09/2016 20:40

what a relief to hear Henry's voice
my dinner spoilt by me shouting at the radio 'go and GET Henry before Rob kidnaps him'

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 16/09/2016 20:49

None of it has been realistic- none. I'm just glad it's done for now (obviously I know it'll carry on for years but...)
None of this SL should have been for the benefit of abused women, who would rather stab than do a runner with the support of your family and community? To be honest Henry wasn't in danger in the short term, people like Knob are far too worried about how they look to the outside. He loved them in his own sad little way.

Olympiathequeen · 16/09/2016 20:50

Agree Helen needs to start divorce proceeding. Revoke parental responsibility. Ask Usha to evict Rob from the cottage although I agree it would have nothing but bad memories and the farm is big enough. just out of spite

Not sure she would get an injunction yet as rob hasn't been charged or convicted and has so far not stalked or intimidated her (at least not that's she's reported)

Seriously wondering if Helen will ask for the rape and CC to go to court? In her shoes I would not want to put myself through that again, despite the fact that Rob is so vile to rape a woman throughout her (unwanted) pregnancy. Angry

Olympiathequeen · 16/09/2016 20:54

I disagree that Henry wasn't in danger. He was in severe psychological danger fromRob, who was manipulating him and damaging his development.

And there are quite a few (mainly) men who appear to love their children but who kill them and themselves in 'family annihilation' scenarios.

StubbleTurnips · 16/09/2016 21:02

Olympia that's my biggest concern too, that rob appears to be the family annihilator type.

DadDadDad · 16/09/2016 21:12

Judy, glowfrog - I share your slight bafflement at where the SocW* evidence comes from. Given Rob is so practised at putting on a charming persona and playing the doting father, how would an outsider have spotted psychological harm based on a few interviews?

*I was trying to distinguish from scriptwriter, but I'm not sure SocW is helpful in TA context. Confused

DadDadDad · 16/09/2016 21:14

But at a visceral level, seeing Rob (and Ursula) being publicly dismantled is VERY satisfying. Grin
