Last night's episode reminded me why I'm glad I've never been asked on a jury. I think I'd feel like Jackie in a sea of ignorant and biased views - but without Jackie's eloquence to back me up Sad

Ooooooh Bore offspring of Tom and Kirsty Are you 'spoiling' it for us ? !!!! I don't care, but some posters are strange about these things Grin

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2016 10:17

That should've read Bore offspring …. etc. Sorry Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/09/2016 10:20

No ppeat it's just another Mystic Bore prediction - like the prediction that Hellin and Anna will find true lurve together and will set up a menagerie à trois with Kaz (who will provide the childcare) Grin

"Diddley did dee dee, three ladies!!!!" Grin Bore Grin

I did jury service on a similar case when I was 19 and listening to last night's episode really took me back - people really are that self-obsessed / biased / incapable of considering the evidence. I remember one guy who said from the first minute "I'll just go with the majority" and sat back from the table. He was the same guy who - when we were stuck at total deadlock - pointed out that if we didn't make a decision by the end of the day we'd probably be sent to a hotel for the weekend. There was a majority agreed within minutes. As a teenager it was a massive eye-opener. I think the SW did an amazing job in a very short space of time.

Henry is going to turn out to be the difficult son isn't he (poor little boy) - would be difficult to see how he comes out of these experiences unscathed.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 12/09/2016 10:39

Placemarking.. thanks for the new thread! -which is nearly full already Shock

AnnieNoMouse · 12/09/2016 10:41

Was there a bin collection day between Thomas being wasted and the stabbing? If not, I wonder if the police might have taken him in as evidence, and Henry can now have him back?

Greengager · 12/09/2016 10:44

Did anyone else think Jackie = Miss Climpson? I quite liked it as a whole. Glad she put the patronising chairman to rights. Interesting how the gobby woman was a victim herself but did realty acknowledge that until pushed. Important to show how prevelent and insidious this can be.

LillianGish Belated Happy Anniversary Wine Can't say for sure I would have been as restrained as you on my own anniversary Blush

pollycazalet · 12/09/2016 11:19

Surely Rob will find himself without either job or house? Justin won't want him and Usha will ask him to leave BHC. He'll have to move back in with his mother. The twist may be that Henry goes with him.......

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/09/2016 11:24

Can't see Broosh being too happy about that Polly

enochroot · 12/09/2016 11:26

Last night's episode was Friday in court so I wonder if tonight's episode is going to be Monday. Or will it be Sunday and a reunion with Henwee, assuming Rob abides by the schedule?

redshoeblueshoe · 12/09/2016 11:45

I don't think Bruce would let Henwee over the threshold.
What happened to Psuedo ? Probably struggling to catch up with this thread.
I think Hellen can be strong now. She now knows exactly who Rob is.
That is what gives her power.

She should be busy getting an injunction out against Rob, and trying to get Henwee back.

80sWaistcoat · 12/09/2016 11:46

I quite liked it. I have sat on a jury and it was nothing like that, interesting case too, but it would have made really dull radio!

I'm not quite sure how they got from guilty to no guilty either. I'm really looking forward as to how this is going to affect dynamics in the village. Particularly looking forward to Rob losing his job with Justin....

notagiraffe · 12/09/2016 11:55

It was baffling. For an hour there's a load of misogynistic opinionated 'She's going down' twaddle and then they come back with an inexplicable 10-1 majority verdict of innocence. How?
And then when Rob spooks Helen in the courthouse afterwards, why doesn't she ask about Henry ? In fact she doesn't mention him once after she's free. Where was he? You'd think the first thing she'd want to do is see the son she was trying to protect.

TeenAndTween · 12/09/2016 11:56

I was rather hoping that Kirsty not being around at the end of the trial was not just a plot device so Rob could menace Helen, but actually was Kirsty having the foresight to nip back to Ambridge, talk to the new childminder, and get Henry handed over to her. Wishful thinking. Also it would necessitate Mon pm episode actually being Fri/Sat which gets us really out of sync.

Looking forward to hearing all the reactions of the village to the rape statements and the final verdict.

CeciledeVolanges · 12/09/2016 11:59

Did anyone else get the impression that we didn't hear the end of the conversation or what happened next with Rob? Helen seemed to go from defiance to being shaken and back to her old, cowed self very suddenly. Is it possible that something important and horrible happened between what we heard and her going back to Pat - perhaps he was rough with her or said even worse things? I hate having things hidden from us as listeners but that was what came to my mind :(

redshoeblueshoe · 12/09/2016 12:00

Teen - that's a great suggestion Star
Go Kirsty

That was my thought too. With 15 mins to go I thought we'd hear them all keep arguing and eventually come round to Not Guilty but only on the attempted murder, or else they'd find her Guilty. But no, it was magic. That's the only explanation.

Biglaugh · 12/09/2016 12:15

I agree notagiraffe Thought the encounter in the corridor between H and R was as contrived as all hell and totally unsatisfactory. We all know that this isn't the end or the beginning of the end but the end of the beginning or some such twaddle. Anyway there is loads to come on living arrangements, residence for Henwee etc so that doom laden Mwa hah hah from Knob was just weird.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/09/2016 12:23

I think Henry is physically safe enough until after the residency hearing - Rob will probably be in ultra Good Daddy mode with him. He may need vent for his seething feelings, but my guess is that he'll take it out on Ursula who he can safely use as an emotional punchbag.

Mellowmarsh · 12/09/2016 12:30

The only explanation for the jury sudden change of heart that I can think of is that when they heard the foreman's personal account they realised he was biased, and probably an abuser which made rob seem more credible as an abuser, especially as they were a similar class of person. But I agree, an unsatisfactorily explained change from the jury.
As soon as Helen went off to find Kirsty it was so obvious she would 'bump into ' rob. I wondered if he sexually assaulted her again after his 'can't take my eyes of you comment. Or was the implied threat meant to be enough?
Overall, a pretty third rate 12 angry men, I thought.
