Will this thread see the end of The Trial? And SOC?

How would Anna dig that out though?
Would like to clink a glass to Helen/Louise P and second the Hallelujah above.
Won't it be glorious if all this lovely juicy evidence comes out: Headteacher to verify the KRob/Arse visit, supplier to confirm phone all from knob, Jess to confirm he's a rapist ....

tomtherabbit · 06/09/2016 21:04

Rob is done for now whatever happens.

Even if Helen is convicted - there is no way that anyone in Ambridge would believe that Helen had made it up or was a cynical liar.

Too many people have seen a nasty side to him.

Even Harrison won't let him near the cricket pavilion now.

Northernlurker · 06/09/2016 21:04

I quite liked pat shouting to Helen. She's been so desperate to support her and hearing that her child had been raped repeatedly must have been almost unbearable. I found it very moving.

In terms of how the trial is going Anna has now drawn out quite a lot of evidence about abuse which the judge will need to refer to in summing up. Helens defence is that she stabbed him whilst trying to defend herself from an abusive man. I would be persuaded by this defence on the basis of what has been heard but will the jury?

buckingfrolicks · 06/09/2016 21:08

I agree that pat calling out was v touching as was Helen naming her parents. Like a moment of reconnection.

shinynewusername · 06/09/2016 21:19

Peggoi was moaning to Tone about how Kirsty shouldn't have said what she said in court

The old bat was right though. It would have been much more helpful to Helen if Kirsty had appeared neutral - the shouting just made her sound hopelessly biased.

WipsGlitter · 06/09/2016 21:24

I thought her apologising to her mum and dad was heartbreaking.

TopazRocks · 06/09/2016 21:27

shiny, I do agree. But a jury, along with the rest of the revelations, might not agree.

I think i have missed quite a lot - didn't hear H speaking to her parents; and i thought it was Tony shouting to her. This talking over malarkey so annoying. Is Feedback off its summer break now?

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 06/09/2016 21:34

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Tonight's trending on Twitter phrase (last night's was Kirsty to the bafflement of many women called Kirsty, apparently) - Go Helen.

CRACKING STUFF

I was late to listen - caught up on y'day and today.

PseudoBadger · 06/09/2016 21:42

So now we just need Knob to state in court that you can't possibly rape your wife.

yes I was surprised that they didn't bring up the tuna bake actually
And that was the first mention of the saucepan of custard.

TheAntiBoop · 06/09/2016 21:45

Maybe he will leap over the rail (dropping stick in process) and attempt to throttle Helen whilst using all the bad words we have heard in the past

tomtherabbit · 06/09/2016 21:45

I refer the honourable lady to my post some pages ago.

Make him explain the tuna bake / custard timeline.

Arsenicinthesugarbowl · 06/09/2016 22:01

Delurking to say I've started listening again! I've been on lowfield and lurking here to keep up to date as I had to switch off after the stabbing. Looking forward to the conclusion and hopeful return to gentle village pottering Hmm

OhTheRoses · 06/09/2016 22:09

I didn't see that coming. I bet it's Jess too, with corroborative story. There'll be more from Henry too, I'm sure. Miles?

Butteredparsn1ps · 06/09/2016 22:13

Back from holiday so I have been keeping up via Lowfield. First priority after collecting dogs has been to sit down with a Brew and this thread.

Agree with all of you re the acting tonight, I feel shaken to the core. Poor Helen. That's not a comment I ever thought I would be posting.

DadDadDad · 06/09/2016 22:14

But how can the claims of rape be corroborated? Unless Jess turns up, the judge will surely just tell the jury that we only have Helen's word for what Rob is like.

OhTheRoses · 06/09/2016 22:18

Helen did well to keep it all together as much as she did taking the repeated rapes into account.

Or a witness from Canada, vthe onecwho scarred him in self defence.

DadDadDad · 06/09/2016 22:24

But someone (Pat?) expressed the concern that Helen sounded too unemotional in her first bit, sounding a bit rehearsed. I bet there are some on the jury thinking "that poor man Rob, he was doing everything to help his wife on the verge of a breakdown, she was on anti-depressants, the pregnancy had unhinged her, and then she flipped out with a knife. Now she'll just parrot the words her barrister has told her in order to get herself off."

MrsArthurShappey · 06/09/2016 22:48

Oh Helen Sad

I amazed myself by crying at her admission. I was listening in the car (thank god, in hindsight) and screamed 'shut the fuck uuuuuup' when Pat and Tony were talking. No 1, we've been waiting to hear Helen say that for MONTHS and we didn't get to hear it all, and No 2, there is no way anyone, let alone the defendants parents would be chatting away when she was being questioned. No way. Badly done SOC. Badly done. Again.

Also, why has the fact that he had a tracking thingummy on her phone not come up in court? I also hope that rob will get recalled and Anna will properly grill him. And we'll hear it.

SarfEast1cated · 06/09/2016 22:49

I was driving to Vauxhall tonight from my house in Lewisham and ended up in Dulwich (completely the opposite direction) I was so rapt by Helen's testimony. I almost just stopped driving at one point to listen but recovered myself. It was really powerful stuff. WELL DONE HELEN!!!

ColdTeaAgain · 06/09/2016 22:56

Wow did not expect that tonight! But what the hell are they thinking having P&T talking I've Helens crucial moment ffs!

Yes surely Rob will have more talking to do now.

northender · 06/09/2016 22:57

Delurking to say wow, well done Hellin, brought tears to my eyes too.

ColdTeaAgain · 06/09/2016 22:57

I've = over, so irritated I can't type!

ErrolTheDragon · 06/09/2016 23:11

I had to listen to the podcast again, tuning out P&T. I think Helen was saying stuff we had heard when it happened.

I wasn't expecting things to have got this far along yet, wonder if there are going to be more witnesses emerging other than Jess?

I thought that Helen sounding calm and collected (at first) was good - didn't sound rehearsed to me ( good acting!) . It doesn't fit with Robs description of her at all.

Oh dear ... Is rob back to the cottage and Henry now? Would the social services be alerted?

PerspicaciaTick · 06/09/2016 23:12

As a pp said, Helen has asked nothing of her parents throughout her marriage. Never turned to either of them for a hug, or admitted she was feeling low or anything. Always the "I'm fine, we're all fine" facade.
But tonight she reached out to them. And it was only in hearing her reach out that I realised exactly how far she had gradually withdrawn.
