Will this thread see the end of The Trial? And SOC?

I too really hope the trial is BLOOMING SOON...

Regarding current concerns - I do like these!

Bert until about ten minutes before his death I would have said that Nigel grew wiser as he matured. He had both imagination and, eventually, the necessary determination to bring abstract plans to practical fruition.

But a grown man, a husband and father, who, for no pressing reason, clambers atop a roof on a black and icy night? Not clever.

But then David went on the roof too.

Before the recent nonsense, that was the single incident that made me want to scream.. So stupid. So unnecessary. And so unlikely.

Yes I'm sure Knob knows about Hellin crashing into Mike; when she was talking to Anna about Knob stopping her from driving I thought it was so obvious that he would claim it was for everyone's safety given her poor record. And obviously the fact that she lied about it means she actually has a questionable moral compass.

Great title, Pseudo! Thanks, as ever.

Bert, people think Nigel was dim because he was, wasn't he? He had no qualifications to speak of - not so very unusual for a young person back then, but he did have a much better education than most, so clearly just wouldn't or couldn't make the most of his opportunities. He was unable to hold any job down for more than a few months. He did get more sensible as he got older, admittedly, and the whole business on the roof was an absolute travesty.

If Kaz has committed suicide, I wonder if she has left Helen a letter? Telling her to keep fighting. Seems the sort of cliche SOC would go for Hmm

Do we think Freddie is being lined up to become a more prominent character as he grows up?

The trial is in a couple of weeks, I think, so of necessity the HelRob story must move on. What really irritates me is that SOC has in effect decided to leave most of the story development to some massive drama at the trial, hence the fact that no-one actually seems to be talking to each other about Rob and joining the dots. And I don't even think it'll be that dramatic, because everyone will be so pissed off that the entire audience will be going "Ho hum, really?"

ColdTea You already know the answer to that (Freddie). Think of Lower Loxley as the Fifth house (The others being Brookfield, Home Farm, Bridge Farm, The Grundys wherever they are.) Either TA stops or it carries on. Presuming that it carries on (and not everyone who listens thinks it will) the story has to follow through each generation of each house.

Now it's possible that Elizabeth might shut down LL and emigrate - but as long as any of the Pargetters are in Ambridge they have to be a fully integrated part of the story.

It may be that Lily really has been muted by the SWs before she flies off to a Swiss school and is never heard of again - but it would be rather cool if she were to use her apparently superior brain power to wrench the stewardship of the family seat from her charming brother.

But yes, on the whole the main adult characters generally reproduce so there will be another generation to keep the show going.

Yes, Freddie will become a second tier main character when he grows up. Lily should too, but I'm not sure the SWs can deal with more than one bright young woman at once ...maybe when Feebs has gone off to Oxford Lily will be unmuted?

A pedant from Basingstoke says:

Wibbly Wobbly Lane was Hitchin. We have Swing Swang Lane in Basingstoke, and the council would have a fight on its hands if they thought of changing it.

Does anyone remember which of Lily & Freddieis the older twin?

Oops, sorry, EBearhug, read the caption too quickly! But thanks for remarking, anyway Grin
I thought Lily was the older twin?

The Archers Facebook page has a link to a summary of the Greg/Helen storyline, with a heading along the lines of "Why Helen's discovery of Kaz might bring back bad memories", which looks bad for Kaz. It also highlighted the occasions when Greg was violent towards Helen, which I'd forgotten about.

I do like the idea of Phoebe coming back as the local MP in future, although it would be tricky with the studious avoidance of party politics.

Or were you thinking of a different deceased?

Jenny really is appalling. Alice get pissed when she's supposed to be in charge, trashes the new drill and some other stuff, screws up Adam's day, but its alright because she has apologised.

And where is Ruari this summer? Almost 14 now. Not a peep about him. He doesn't even feature on the BBC 'characters' page:

De lurking simply because of this " Before the recent nonsense, that was the single incident that made me want to scream.. So stupid. So unnecessary. And so unlikely." Re Nigel / Roof. Excellent.

"David, for dramatic & ratings purposes shall we go right now and get stuff down off the roof? "
( I may have not remembered the actual dialogue correctly).

I hope Kaz isn't dead, either. I fear for Jayden, though - there's one way to absolutely guarantee that no one else gets him...

Ruari did get mentioned early on in the school hols, some breakfast conversation between Adam and Jenny, I think. Can't remember.
