A once-great soap is going down the Beverley drain.

OP posts:
enochroot · 25/07/2016 11:15

I'm hoping she can get it removed. He's clearly got Henry subjugated and H adores him because he's the only stability in his life but he's being turned against his GPs as well as his mother.
It surely wouldn't be impossible to withdraw PR from a suspected rapist and abuser, would it?

TopazRocks · 25/07/2016 11:47

It's quite possible Helen doesn't yet think of it as 'rape'. When talking to the WA woman, she only agreed he'd done things to her that were unwanted.

I hope for a scene with Neil and Soosan discussing Helen and his statement. Neil - despite all the chili in the world! - seems well able to make up his own mind about things. They ARE close but he is the sensible one IMO.

Swannykazoo · 25/07/2016 12:04

Its a poor show for Jacks (ex Kenton's cool cocktail bar/eatery) that Fallon (ex manager of said cool bar) had to have a Caipirinha explained to her. Ever me, old gimmer, who believes in nowt fancier than a gin + tonic has heard of and scoffed a few caipirinhas.

CeciledeVolanges · 25/07/2016 12:19

Gruach I think exceptional really means exceptional in the PR context. We were told at university that it didn't cover, for example, the person being jailed for severe child abuse, rape, beating up the child's mother, harming the child, and so on.

CeciledeVolanges · 25/07/2016 12:27

Also I don't think having been raped gets you off attempted murder or GBH charges... It will evoke sympathy for Helen, surely, but she is the one on trial, not Rob, and needs to prove a defence to attempted murder, not that he did anything.

Gruach · 25/07/2016 12:44

Goodness Cecile - where does that leave the meaning of the word "exceptional"?

(Rather glad I didn't study Family Law.)

TheAntiBoop · 25/07/2016 12:47

The rapes will be used to build up a picture of a controlling and violent man.

If Anna plays it right the scene of the stabbing will involve a nasty tyrant and a simpering cowering Helen in fear of her child's life. What actually happened is irrelevant!!

So no, the rapes won't get her off but they are q very useful tool for her claim of self defence

ppeatfruit · 25/07/2016 12:53

I thought that the conversations between Dodo and Fallon were ok, I've heard much worse on TA. Dodo is quite the action woman!

Somehow when knob is being almost normal he's worse Grin Note that he actually bought in stuff for Fallon expecting abject gratitude, her grunting reaction was great.

CeciledeVolanges · 25/07/2016 12:55

Gruach most of us studying it were shocked. Family law was a bit harrowing (although not as much so as criminal law...)

TheAntiBoop · 25/07/2016 12:57

Maybe the archers sw could do some lobbying on how easy it is to get PR and how it should be just as easy to get rid of it. At least then some good might come out of the sl

Swannykazoo · 25/07/2016 14:13

Fallon squealing about her being a rock climber seemed unlikely. Hey she used to have a band and go round Europe in a van etc. I'm sure she has met someone who does outdoor sports outside Stepford
In the omnibus I found Harrison's "you need to be persistent" remark to Rex about getting a girl to like you quite unpleasant

CeciledeVolanges · 25/07/2016 14:42

I thought the same Swannykazoo (I love the name by the way). Reminiscent of the attitude that men know what women want better than women do, they don't mean it when they say no. Quite creepy, really.

TheAntiBoop · 25/07/2016 14:55

I thought pc plot was super creepy in his chase of fallon. Very much 'she doesn't know what she wants'

trevortrevorslatterfry · 25/07/2016 16:12

Ugh yeah Harrison was very very persistent until Fallon gave in Angry.
I remember cringing about it at the time but had forgotten.

TheAntiBoop · 25/07/2016 16:32

I remember wondering if this was the beginning of a creepy stalker sl made even creepier by the fact he's a policeman

CeciledeVolanges · 25/07/2016 17:06

Wasn't she also put off him by Facebook pictures of him with guns, and how he acted with his friends? Valid reasons, I would have thought...

JudyCoolibar · 25/07/2016 19:20

I must say, for someone who's allegedly been agonising over the hunt sab business for almost four months, Shula seems to be bearing up remarkably well.

outputgap · 25/07/2016 19:27

I couldn't hear all that whiny self indulgence very well due to small people watching YouTube videos of trains. Did she finally conclude that the right thing to do is tell the fucking truth? For fuck's sake, Shula, what do you think about in church every week? The prospect of prison for Helen and a motherless future for 2 children, or just how great Dan is?

selsigfach · 25/07/2016 21:37

Shula is a total bitch. With her, it's all about dusting off the church flowers and arse-licking the vicar without any understanding whatsoever of what it means to be Christian.

Helenluvsrob · 25/07/2016 21:41

Snork! I like the new MN short hand of " ooh please take me up lakey hill " it's rather like " centre parks on Friday " nudge nudge , wink wink, I've packed the Vaseline !

JudyCoolibar · 25/07/2016 21:44

No, she still hasn't reached the obvious conclusion. The agonising seems to be restricted to a perception that if she had said something to Helen then she could have prevented everything that came after - which, let's face it, is highly unlikely. At that stage Knob would just have said Shula was deluded and Helen would have accepted it.

I was fairly infuriated by the fact that Caroline's approach was more or less "Well, you couldn't have known, what's a little perversion of the course of justice between friends?" Still, with any luck this is SOC doing another slow burn, and at some point the penny should drop for one or other of them.

Summer fun. Shall be finished in 2019 but at least my daughter will be able to name all the farms and cottages.

Coming on to say hello - this has fallen off my 'Threads I'm on' list. When will it be safe to listen again?

Gumpendorf · 25/07/2016 22:48

Caroline, especially, should be more alert to abusive partners. At the time, when Shula explained how weird Rob seemed about the whole event, didn't Caro remark about feeling dark shadows or something? Confused
