Who listens to r4 and your demographic. Me now typical middle aged middle class but I have listened since teenage in my own right.

How about you ?

I listen all the time to nearly anything. Podcasts when running. Saturday live a favourite

Am 39 and began listening all the time, having switched from r1 about 5-6 years ago. Occasionally listen to the archers so I can chat about it with mum.

45, muslim barrister. I listen all the time been listening since my teens. I find a lot of the comedy a bit rubbish.

I listened to radio 4 as a child because my mum always had it on....I started listening on my own account as a teenager too. Now it's always on somewhere - in the car, around the house, go to sleep listening to it, wake up listening.....you get the picture !

My grown up kids tell me that coming into the house with radio 4 on in the background makes them feel as if they are properly home, safe and all is well

I have progressed, since teenage years, from r1 - local radio - r2 - r4 (about five years ago I switched permanently).

I've always listened to radio four, ever since college and I started to drive! I'm now early 30s and listen every day.

I love radio 4. Listened to it my whole life, from when it was the Home Service. Love From our Own Correspondent, File on Four, Any Questions, Desert Island Discs, Woman's Hour, the News Quiz, Quote Unquote, some dramas (usually book adaptations eg The Kraken Wakes).
Hate some dramas, especially "comedies". I have a love/hate thing going with the Archers, but the theme tune makes me feel "safe".

I am 45 and work part time. Middle class. Like most other posters grew up listening to radio 4. When my son was a baby he used to dance in the back of the car to the theme tune of the archers. I love today, womans hour pm and the archers.

54yo, middle class, have listened to Radio 4 all my life (alongside a lot of Radio 3). Utterly obsessed with The Archers. Also love Cabin Pressure and anything else John Finnemore does, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, The Now Show, The News Quiz, Ed Reardon's Week, the PM programme, All In The Mind and the other health programmes, Desert Island Discs, Soul Music and most of the quizzes. I like the documentaries and history programmes too. Drama is a bit hit and miss. New comedy is often awful but I try not to write it off too soon unless I miss some great gem.

Today programme is a bit shouty for me, so I listen to Radio 3 instead.

Listened for the last 12 or so years to pretty much anything. Started tuning in because I couldn't be bothered channelhopping to avoid annoying music and ads- Got hooked.

The Now Show ain't what it used to be.

Love everything except the smug comedy and the overwrought melodramas.

Given the choice would listen to radio six more, but they must realise this as there is an increasing amount of cross over.

Love it - 48 year old fairly typical female they'd expect to be listening - so not a new demographic for radio 4.

Often listening in car and then plug in to earphones to finish listening something that caught my attention. Enjoy Jim Al-Khalili.

Would say I dislike the dramas in general - except I will now and again come across ones I love - generally the ones based on some sort of real event rather than just "family life" style - Mary Toft hoax of 1700s giving birth to rabbits.

Female, 30 and husband male, 28. Both teachers from lower middle/working class backgrounds. White, Athiest, left wing. I started listening to it as a student, husband always liked talk radio like LBC and started listening to it when he met me at 22 and it would be on in the car.

Love it. One of the best things about this country. Always something interesting on.

I suspect I am classic demographic for them - mid 40s, listened on and off all my life via parents (with flirtations ongoing with R1, R3, XFM). My listening peak was when my two were little and I was working less - can't listen when I'm meant to be working as I would be constantly distracted. My dcs are getting indoctrinated (Me and ds had a lovely trip to listen to junior just a minute being recorded. I was a bit star stuck seeing the Real Nicholas Parsons, Jenny Eclair and Josie Lawrence in one room )

stuck at home with tedious illness I'm hitting the R4 low of hearing the same programme twice in a day.
Delighted today to realise JF's souvenir programme is back.
Must use iplayer more, I have been listening to 'Never Let Me Go'.
So I am their cor listener I think- of my adult DCs, one listens to the Archers but I think on the whole they see broadcast radio as a bit old school, they listen to podcasts

R4 extra is OK when R4 has extensive godliness (sunday am) (or if it's You and Yours) and if that is too impenetrable, go to the world service

Me, 38. DD 15 and her friend were teaching other friends how to play Just a Minute at school yesterday. Dd 19 at university often texts to ask if I've been listening to whatever she has.

I struggle these days as I feel there is a right wing bias in BBC News and I can no longer listen to the Today programme.

Many things to love though, Clare in the Community, More or Less, Jim al-Khalili, Afternoon drama, Poetry Please, From Our Own Correspondent etc.

i love radio 4, me. it's on in the car and i only have my radio on R4 at home. i don't like the Archers.
