I do hope Lynda has a carbon monoxide monitor in there...

The thing is, with the other characters we're aware who's friends with who amongst the regular cast. We know that Usha, for instance, is very friendly with Ruth. But there are absolutely none of the case you could identify as a friend of Rob's, nor has he ever mentioned having any friends outside the village.

lottiegarbanzo · 24/04/2016 11:28

They could easily refer to social occasions in passing, without including them. The insularity of many, though not all, characters is unrealistic - though with others there's enough off-air hinterland to imagine that they do do other things.

lottiegarbanzo · 24/04/2016 11:30

But why would anyone who is not over-infested in something NOT REAL be wasting time on this thread? Grin

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 24/04/2016 11:34

No one has been to visit Rob other than Ursula, the police and poor Henry.

Adam has friends. Then he snogs them.

But yes I want to know about yurts and curtains and gardens. Not quite so interested in eggs and cows but its still better than the police procedural court tease.

lottiegarbanzo · 24/04/2016 11:38

Re Kate's business, SaratheFairy, she ran out of money. It was bizarre, even for Kate. She just said 'oh, this particular thing was far more expensive than I realised, so I'd used up all my money before I could get everything set up'.

As if she'd just ordered and paid for the extra-expensive thing, then looked at her account balance and gone 'oops!' Rather than looking at the thing, thinking 'can't afford that, either have to compromise with cheaper option or, if this thing is essential to my vision, put development of the business on ice while I still have most of the capital in the bank'.

enochroot · 24/04/2016 11:50

Although it is a fairly open and shut case on the face of it Helen is, presumably, deemed innocent until proved guilty. Yet she has lost just about all her rights.
She can't see Henry
She can't see prosecution witnesses but the police have named just about everyone she is likely to want to see as a prosecution witness.
Her belongings are at BHC where Ursula now presides so access to her own property by her family is restricted. Ursula could have taken the whole lot to the tip by now.
She has lost any control over their joint account and her home and the rent for that is being paid for from the joint account.

All that assumes she is capable of thinking about these things but her family seem to be equally powerless to act on her behalf. Would she be better off filing for divorce?

lottiegarbanzo · 24/04/2016 12:03

Further to Kate's business, which collapsed in about January, we've heard very little reaction, except from Brian - massive exasperation - and a bit of general supportiveness from Lil. Nothing from Debbie, who'd invested because she had every confidence in Kate getting this right.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 24/04/2016 12:04

lottie I thought Kate had some plan to get additional funding?

lottiegarbanzo · 24/04/2016 12:08

Did she? Must have missed that. I just remember her helpless despondency, then Lil saying 'you must have some skill or asset you can monetise' and perhaps Kate thinking about letting her cottage and moving back into the farmhouse?

Gruach · 24/04/2016 12:09

As far as I remember - Kate's plan for additional finance is to rent out her cottage. So she's moved back into the big house at Home Farm.

But of course we've heard nothing further because there only one real story.

lottiegarbanzo · 24/04/2016 12:13

Right, hence Brian in the house of women. But nowt about Kate's tenants.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 24/04/2016 12:15

That's right! And she phoned Debbie or something.

Why doesn't she get some cows on the herbal.lays? Or sell them as an organic face psck or somethjng. It's what perfect Pip would do.

Just popping in to say congratulations to pseudo and everyone else: today is this 3rd anniversary of this series of threads. Over 54,000 posts and still going strong!

Gruach · 24/04/2016 14:23

Still remember my excitement when I found the first thread (before it became the "official" TA meeting point) having stumbled upon MN shortly before. What I cannot now recall is quite how it felt when my TA obsession was a weird and solitary pursuit. Was so hopeless trying to talk about it to people who simply weren't that interested.

The strange thing is that none of the other venues for Archers gossip are even vaguely satisfactory. In the past, if asked, I would have said that my "community" (hate that word!) was people who cared about TA as much as I did. Now I'd say my community encompasses people who care about TA and understand it in much the same way as I do.

Happy Anniversary all!WineFlowersStar

ppeatfruit · 24/04/2016 14:35

Blimey can you believe it !!!! Grin thank you Dad and Gruach I agree with you It is nice to speak to people who care about TA Grin.

Thanks to Psuedo for her work doing the titles of the threads too must be annoying sometimes Grin

DadDadDad · 24/04/2016 14:45

If I'm honest, I came to these threads as an occasional listener with a semi-detached interest in TA. But the Rob and Hel story combined with this good-natured witty community (that's the right word, gruach ) have pulled me in.

PseudoBadger · 24/04/2016 15:06

Happy Anniversary Flowers Thanks to you all for joining me here Cake

And endless thanks to you Pseudo!

toldmywrath · 24/04/2016 15:26

I've had to miss a lot of threads/posts as I'm an omnibus viewer & I found myself lacking the time to catch up. Happy 3rd anniversary to our TA community. Glad I have found this little corner of mumsnet. I am quite fed up/upset by how the storyline has gone though. (as a lot of us are, I know)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/04/2016 15:51

Three years! Wow. Thanks, Pseudo, and thanks to everyone else. I love these threads.

In other news, the Archers has tweeted that they've received their first application for the Editor post. It's a retweet of this bit of sample dialogue, which would please me:

  • SCREAMS
  • What is it Lizzie?
-Oh Nigel, I've just had the most awful dream

Grin and Sad all at the same time - I do miss Nigel.

LillianGish · 24/04/2016 16:00

Happy anniversary to us - like Gruach I can't remember what it was like to listen alone! I enjoy this thread so much that however frustrated I get with the storyline I could never give it up - I'd miss you all too much. Cake

R4 · 24/04/2016 16:30

What a weekend for anniversaries: first Shakespeare, then pseudo.Grin
Congratulations pseudo for your sterling work and wit.

ppeatfruit · 24/04/2016 16:34

Gaspode That reminds me (talking about Nigel); the actor (sorry I don't remember his name) and Simon Williams were in the "Royal Visit' episode of Dinner Ladies yesterday on Gold ,memorial programmes for the untimely death of Victoria Wood, continued today.
