I do hope Lynda has a carbon monoxide monitor in there...

Sorry, sticker, I hope you realise I was being completely tongue-in-cheek about the prize...

Stickerrocks · 23/04/2016 13:59

Of course D3, but we were considering getting you a new spreadsheet just for joining in!

LillianGish · 23/04/2016 14:39

He may even have said he had had enough and he was trying to leave her and take Henry with him for safety and that's when she stabbed him. My remark about the packed case was in relation to this - if he'd packed a case that might have been evidence he was leaving, but it was her case that was packed (agree that could also point to her fleeing the scene of the crime - except she didn't did she?) I found Knob's testimony pretty contradictory "She wouldn't leave me alone it was totally suffocating but at the same time she was having a lesbian affair." I also think he is unlikely to get anyone to corroborate that - if he'd said "I have no idea what happened it just came out of the blue" he would have most of Ambridge queuing up to agree - trying to claim he and Kirsty were in some kind of lesbian pact makes him look like the one who is unhinged. As others have said, whatever defence she mounts Helen will have to carry the can for stabbing him because she did, but if she has can produce enough mitigating circumstances she can substantially reduce her sentence and more importantly make sure Knob doesn't get his hands on Henwee.

Gruach · 23/04/2016 15:00

Helen can't live with a criminal record - not for this. It's not fair.

Two possibilities - either she didn't do it or the prosecution is discontinued.

It's incredibly unlikely that Henry administered even one nearly-fatal wound but ... Listening to The Event I've had the impression that Rob was moving towards Helen and Rob before he was stabbed. If the worst wound was the abdominal one - if that was Henry ...

Alternatively, if the investigations find something unspeakable in his past while the infection returns to devour him or if Stefan comes back and shoots him properly dead ...

Straws lovingly clutched ...

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 23/04/2016 15:10

Any story Kirsty and Hellin give the police could have been concocted by them in the period between H stabbing Rob and the police arriving.

So Kirsty can say Hellon told her she was leaving but it doesn't make it true.

Not saying this is the way I want it to go just saying if I wanted to turn this into a really suspense filled frustrating listen that's what I'd do

JasperDamerel · 23/04/2016 15:16

Pat is surrounded by RP speakers, so it wouldn't be that unusual for her accent to change. Mine has gone from Northern Irish to RP to Yorkshire over the course of my life.

I'm finding myself vaguely hoping for a very slow-burning romance between Helen and Kirsty, long after it becomes clear that Rob fucked up the marriage, with Rob having effectively brought them together. That way Kirsty gets to be the Bridge Farm daughter-in-law after all.

ppeatfruit · 23/04/2016 15:23

We don't really know how long Knob lay on the kitchen floor bleeding into the custard do we? There is the problem, Hell put Henry to bed??? In her unhinged state, was that possible? Surely it would've been more likely that he fell asleep in front of the cartoons. An anomaly in the script there.

I may have missed the detail of the timing but I listened twice.

LillianGish · 23/04/2016 15:29

I like your straws Gruach can I clutch them too? This is Ambridge after all so anything is possible.

ppeatfruit · 23/04/2016 15:34

Gruach I thought that knob was about to attack henry and and Hell stopped him with the knife.

Gruach · 23/04/2016 15:43

True, Lil'G - but it's all so inconsistent. Those Ambridge Fairies find jobs and houses for all the SWs' favourites - but not one of them raised a finger when poor Susan was dragged off to jail.

I'm sure if I knew someone in this situation in RL my thoughts might be more robust but - for the Helen in my head, I really can't see how she's going to drag herself through many more days when the future looks so bleak.

selsigfach · 23/04/2016 15:49

I'm glad you all thought scary lady copper was onto Knob because I thought she'd fallen for it.

lljkk · 23/04/2016 15:51

I think Hell's crime is serious enough to merit some custodial time. Which may be all served by the time she comes to trial. Is best they can hope.

Whatever awful Rob is, he didn't nearly kill somebody.

Not analogous, but shows judges have huge discretion on sentencing.

enochroot · 23/04/2016 16:44

What made me cringe was his trademark scoffing chuckle when he said Kirsty's engagement to Tom was incestuous.

In my mind Helen and Rob were standing in the kitchen by the stove and knife drawer while he forced her to grip the knife then Henry's voice is heard at the door. Rob started to lunge towards Henry and relaxed his grip on Helen who was resisting him. The relaxation of his grip caused a forward momentum on her hand holding the knife. That would account for the wrist wound and the stomach. If he then came at her to get her to put down the knife she must have made the second stab then and could argue self-defence.

Abraid2 · 23/04/2016 18:03

The lesbian claim will just make Rob seem an idiot. Women can only be close if it's sexual. Hmm

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/04/2016 18:12

I thought scary lady copper did not believe him.

lljkk · 23/04/2016 18:38

In my mind she really went for it (he well deserved it, not legally, but morally).
I think copper knew not to give him any info. Rob was only carrying on to try to find out what Hell had said about him, so he knew what line of lies to use.

glowfrog · 23/04/2016 19:30

Whatever awful Rob is, he didn't nearly kill somebody.

Yes, he did - himself. By driving Helen half-mad.

Plus you could argue he is responsible for the flooding that eventually killed Frieda, and nearly killed Charlie.

BYOSnowman · 23/04/2016 19:36

He wasn't responsible for the flooding!!

He blocked the culvert which likely flooded one of the main roads which delayed the emergency services potentially. And obviously unblocking it nearly killed Charlie but you can't pin frieda on him

BYOSnowman · 23/04/2016 19:56

Although he could still be responsible for stefans demise. And the dog in the grain store (killed it if we are being sensationalist or was just negligent in his duties) and thus all the cows that died as a consequence. And then the closing of Berrow because of that and the associated redundancies.

leliondemer · 23/04/2016 20:00

Just caught up and hated having to listen to Rob's speech. Totally playing the role of he abused when he is the abuser.

I just really, really hope that there is some kind of huge piece of information that Helen will reveal that will get her off the hook. It makes me so angry that Helen is in prison and can't see Henry whereas Ursula and Rob can. Talk about influencing the witness, that's all they'll do. Angry

glowfrog · 23/04/2016 20:02

I didn't mean literally or directly, BYOS!

redshoeblueshoe · 23/04/2016 20:11

I don't think the policewoman was taken in by him.
Firstly he said about Helen being irrational that I couldn't control her any more
and secondly the remark about Hel/Kirsty/Tom's relationship being incestuous. No sane person could think that was a normal remark.
even though Ambridge has gone more than a bit EE
What no real prizes for the sweepstake
Here for everyone Wine Wine Wine

BYOSnowman · 23/04/2016 20:15

It's difficult to tell sometimes glow as some suggestions about ribs behaviour would have him responsible for everything bad that's ever happened!!!

theyll be unveiling him as the secret love child of hitler and pol pot soon enough!

The whole 'she's a lesbian' and 'she wanted me by her side 24/7' make no sense together because it's a bit hard to meet your lesbian lover with your dh next door.

I'm hoping the copper will query the suggestion with pat etc and they will finally realise he is a knob
