Helen knows she's not cracking up - Knob is an eggomaniac.

Are we eggshausted with this storyline?

Tea I think it's more because it was his awful mother's idea and anything that supports Arsula and is contrary to Hel's desires is good for him.

Stickerrocks · 29/03/2016 19:36

TeaPlease I have my suspicions that he's a bit like Tom Cruise and wants to introduce some strange rituals and chanting as SoK emerges. The NHS wouldn't be able to cope. Alternatively, he just wants to make Helen even more vulnerable, before leaping into action to rush her to hospital, allowing Pat to hero worship him further for saving Helen's life and making her see sense after she irrationally insisted on a HB.

Elendon · 29/03/2016 19:36

Yes, but Tom doesn't get a cricket bat to the head, does he?

Stickerrocks · 29/03/2016 19:39

Elendon Rob answered the phone with the phrase "Helen's phone". The midwife could not see that she was addressing Rob, even if Helen had previously given her permission to discuss things in front of Rob. Therefore she breached patient confidentiality by discussing Helen's birth plans over the phone with someone who was obviously not Helen.

She discussed it with Helen's husband, the father of the child. The husband of a woman who, on medical notes, has been to a psychologist whilst pregnant.

CuttedUpPear · 29/03/2016 19:44

As has been stated time and time again on this thread, Rob (and men like him) doesn't have an overall plan with any outcomes apart from control of Helen.

He isn't some Machiavellian baddie twirling his moustache, he's just an ordinary common or garden abuser vying for control. End of.

I'm actually getting upset with all these projected aims that men like him are imagined to have.

There is no ultimate plan, just an endless tightening of the thumbscrews as the victim doubts their own sanity and loses confidence. It goes on and on and on without end.

Gruach · 29/03/2016 19:47
  • Or, you could think of it as a figurative bat to a fictional head, which is as I meant it.

Either way, I am entirely free to express my dissatisfaction with a fictional character in a fictional radio show.

Elendon · 29/03/2016 19:48

Perhaps the diehard listeners want this to be like a Hollywood ending, with Tom Cruise coming in post birth to carry Helen out into a Cornish Sunset? Rather than that common EastEnders nonsense.

Please SW keep this storyline going. It reflects real life. Obviously something some posters want to shy away from.

AugustaFinkNottle · 29/03/2016 19:49

Nobody should be critical of any woman caught up in it. Relatives, friends, midwives, consultants, councillors.

I hope the same would apply to any men caught up in it?

plimsolls · 29/03/2016 19:49

I don't think there's any need to argue/tell
posters they are abusing women on this thread, really and change the tone of these Archers discussion threads . elendon.

Casual use of violent phrases on MN (cricket bat to head on this thread, drop kicking a neighbours son on a other thread) do make me wince but derailing threads and accusing posters of overly focusing on the women's role here seems a bit goady. I haven't noticed many men (Tony, Tom, Ian) featuring very heavily in the actual programme recently which presumably is why people are discussing the women.

lljkk · 29/03/2016 19:50

Is it really breaching confidentiality to discuss treatment decisions with next of kin? I mean, doctors would discuss stuff like that with us about DC's medical needs. I half thought Knob was listening to a recorded message, actually, like the phone was ringing to say "You have voicemail" or something.

Minimammoth · 29/03/2016 19:51

Elendon, I am sorry to have offended you, it is my weak attempt at levity where there is frustration and powerlessness. ( not being a scriptwriter).

plimsolls · 29/03/2016 19:51

Oh. Cross posted with your other post implying we think EastEnders is common and we think Helen should be rescued by a man. In which case, ignore my post above and just have a biscuit. Biscuit.

lljkk · 29/03/2016 19:52

oh wait.. I'm following the logic of how confidentiality breached. But surely the conversation was edited for our listening, and the real conversation included

Hello can I speak to Helen?
She's not available.
Who am I speaking with?
Her husband Rob.
Oh yes, we met before, well, I was just ringing back to say...

Stickerrocks · 29/03/2016 19:52

My point is that she didn't know that she was discussing it with Rob. It could have been Tom, Tony, Johnny or a random Fairbrethren who happened to pick up her phone. I'm an accountant - if I discussed someone's tax matters with a person of a different gender over the phone without physical proof of who that person was, it's an ethical breach. Discussing someone's medical matters is far worse than that & would be a breach of patient confidentiality. The midwife had no right to do it. Our doctors' surgery would always simply leave a message for the patient to call back.

Stickerrocks · 29/03/2016 19:56

Lljkk Cross post. I can see where you're coming from too. I missed an invisible line in the conversation, probably because I want to shake anyone who inadvertently aids and abets Rob in his dastardly deeds.

Elendon · 29/03/2016 19:57

Of course August. I think I Was replying to the criticism of Helens female friends. And relatives. It equally applies to her male ones.

Elendon · 29/03/2016 19:59

Stick, you have a point, but isn't Rob Helens next of Kin?

Elendon · 29/03/2016 20:00

Plimsol have a glass of water. You might be dehydrated.

plimsolls · 29/03/2016 20:03

Regarding the missing money (from Clarrie's purse and possibly the Curtain fund), I'm wondering if it is George. He had the funds to buy Emma a fancy egg. I thought at the time that Alf's confession was a bit martyr-ish. Could he be covering for George? I'm also predicting a mouse invasion in the tearoom set free by Rob

redshoeblueshoe · 29/03/2016 20:04

Elendon we have repeatedly said on this thread that we want a realistic ending
i.e. not Rob being murdered EE style.
Actually I would expect MW's to be trained to recognise signs of abuse. She has also seen the psychiatrist.

PseudoBadger · 29/03/2016 20:05

Our dissatisfaction with Pat et al is largely dissatisfaction with the SWs'/editor's poor characterisation and lack of respect for continuity. How long have you 'known' Pat, Elendon?

OP posts:
Stickerrocks · 29/03/2016 20:05

My MW wouldn't have had a clue who my next of kin was and I'd have been seriously hacked off if she had discussed anything with him rather than with me. He might be my next of kin in case of emergency, but she still would have had no right to discuss things with him instead of with me in a non-emergency situation. It depends how distinctive Knob's voice is in the midwife's mind I suppose. Which brings us back to the terror Tim Watson must be striking in the supermarket, at parents' evenings etc every time he opens his mouth in front of Archers listeners.....

Elendon · 29/03/2016 20:06

What are the signs of abuse?

Seriously?
