Toby is cardboard cutout too though - gratuitous littering scene there...

R4 · 21/03/2016 20:41

I hope that it was Alf that done it but somehow Rob gets knobbled for it. So, ironically, he gets sent down for the one crime he didn't commit.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/03/2016 20:56

Clive Horrobin's the one with form for arson in Ambridge, but as far as we know he's still locked up, isn't he?

I'm assuming Eddie's shepherd's hut is somehow going to become an eggmobile.

Stickerrocks · 21/03/2016 21:00

Why would Alf do it though? Was it gratuitous? I always assumed he was just a cheeky chappie like Eddie, but on the wrong side of the law. He wouldn't hesitate to run off with your wallet, but there's nothing in it for him in setting the eggmobile on fire.

BYOSnowman · 21/03/2016 21:04

How about

Rob implies that the fire starting around the same time Johnny was on the premises was highly suspicious. Everyone thinks Johnny did it because he's a northerner.

Around the time of the great unmasking of knob we get another nail in his coffin - the fire investigation shows it was the alarm clock things to open the door. Cue lots of head shaking and 'can you believe he told everyone it was poor old johhny'

EmilyDickinson · 21/03/2016 21:25

Maybe it was Rex. His sob story about the limited cooking facilities in the caravan having failed to secure a lunch invitation he's now ensured that they have no cooking facilities at all. Surely Ruth will take pity on them now, especially if he drops a few hints about the fire possibly being caused by a short circuit in Josh's automatic door.

In fact I wonder whether this is a plot device to bring the Fairbrother boys into even closer proximity with the Archers. Now that Heather has died and Bert and Pip have moved out they must just be longing to get Ben and Josh to squash up in one room again. Gives Rex lots of opportunity to get his feet under the table until his marriage into the family is a mere formality.

EmilyDickinson · 21/03/2016 21:26

I.e. After a few cold nights in the tent Ruth and David let them move into the house.

BYOSnowman · 21/03/2016 21:29

What state is hollow tree in? I know it was used for pigs but could they not set up in there with their tents?

the archers are quite disinterested in Toby and Rex really. I don't think they will be bothered about them being cold etc.

I've realised why Brookfield was so cramped - they've given a bedroom to blossom hill

NotdeadyetBOING · 21/03/2016 22:11

A relief to have a Knob free episode, but must confess I found tonight really dull. Realise they are trying to whip up some excitement and drama around other story lines, but those tedious brothers and their egg/hen issues isn't doing it for me.

Agree about gratuitous littering incident. Just to 'remind' us what a tearaway cad Toby is. Thanks for that heavy signposting

BYOSnowman · 21/03/2016 22:13

The way they talk to each other (the brothers) is so unnatural - not just the acting but the lines. It's all so clunky.

ColdTeaAgain · 21/03/2016 22:21

I found the littering thing so unrealistic. Yes we know he isn't meant be the conventional country type but really can't see anyone who chooses to move to a village and make a living out of farming to not give a monkeys about their environment. Just didn't fit.

Imbroglio · 21/03/2016 22:21

Re where are the 'sister pairs' comment upthread - Jennifer and Lilian!

LillianGish · 21/03/2016 22:25

BYOS I read your earlier post as Will Bert fry? Which got me thinking how appropriate it was that a man called Fry should be involved with eggs. I can't believe no one has mentioned this before Grin

Gruach · 21/03/2016 22:29

OldTrout There was a quite beautiful episode a few months ago when Debbie came home for a visit and the three sisters went riding together.

Marchate · 21/03/2016 22:40

Sisters-in-law... Chris & Peg

EBearhug · 21/03/2016 23:19

I assumed that Toby littering was signposting how the fire was started - some careless littering from him. Does he smoke?

I agree that the rubbish chocolate-egg-based diet doesn't quite fit with them going on about grass-fed eggs and rugby playing and so on, but I also assumed it wasn't entirely truthful.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 21/03/2016 23:22

The littering thing, have you seen the mess that some people who ho camping or hill walking leaveHmm wouldn't surprise me at all.

notdeadyet whipping up eggcitement about the eggsGrin an eggcellent pun or a meringue? (One for the Scots thereWink)

EBearhug · 22/03/2016 00:14

I don't get that, either, having been brought up to take your litter home, always.

But anyway - the Fairbrethren are about to go into running 100 chicken outside (especially as the litter dropping was before the fire) - are they not aware that animals can die by swallowing plastic bags and stuff? They're risking their own business. (Rex should have stopped the car and made him get out and pick it up.)

babybythesea · 22/03/2016 00:37

I didn't even know you were here. And now I've come home.

Was anyone else reminded of the film Three Men and a Little Lady when talk of the boarding school started? Is Tom Selleck about to show up?

They've been heavily promoting 'the actress who plays Helen' on Woman's Hour, think it's at the end of March. I'm hoping that means the whole thing is sliding to its conclusion because I can't bear much more of this.

LyndaNotLinda · 22/03/2016 07:36

That was the best bit of acting the Fairbrethren have ever done. They clearly need a bit more drama to sound convincing. It's Bert I feel sorry for - all his hard work destroyed :(

WipsGlitter · 22/03/2016 07:41

Did we ever find out about the mysterious trip to Brighton?

I'm struggling to be interested in the Fairbrethren. Characters dropped in to drive storylines. Plus if Pip ends up with Rex it will such a cliche.

ArgyMargy · 22/03/2016 07:41

I too instantly thought of Alf as the culprit (he's a wrong'un) but Sticker is right he has no motive. Knob's motive is tenuous at best. Would Toby have been smoking inside the henhouse and discarded a butt? Seems unlikely. Maybe it's Henwee - a silent cry for help and an early manifestation of his career as a firestarter.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 22/03/2016 08:06

Do you think Toby has 8 kids down in Brighton?

R4 · 22/03/2016 08:13

Hello baby, welcome on board. Woman's Hour was mentioned on the last thread - Helen will be on on Easter Tuesday so we are all fingers-crossed that HellRob will conclude over the Easter weekend.

ppeatfruit · 22/03/2016 08:15

Yes Wips The brethren had a conversation about Tobe's ex in Brighton. There could be 8 kids as well I suppose VinceNoir.!
