Klaxon! Knob free zone this evening.

EmilyDickinson · 21/03/2016 19:15

Anyone else think that Rex was fishing for an invitation to Easter Sunday lunch at Brookfield with his tale of living off chocolate over the weekend because their cooking facilities are so limited. I'm actually quite pleased that Ruth didn't offer, especially as it's unlikely to be her cooking Sunday lunch. Maybe he'd have had better luck with Shula or Elizabeth. They seem to be falling over themselves to invite Dr Lock for Easter. He only had to say he was watching a box set for them to take pity on him.

I liked Ruth's comment about Pip sparing her the details about what a lovely time she's having with Matthew. Clearly even Ruth and David's fond indulgence of and interest in the minutiae of Pip's life has its limits.

GrumpyOldBag · 21/03/2016 19:15

I reckon Rob torched the chicken house because he thought the eggs would be overpriced for the shop...

R4 · 21/03/2016 19:17

Or shall we blame Alf?

EmilyDickinson · 21/03/2016 19:17

Grin Rob will certainly be pleased at the Fairbrothers misfortune. For some reason he seems to really dislike them and rarely lets an opportunity for a snide comment at their expense pass by.

Putthetulipsthere · 21/03/2016 19:18

My thoughts exactly grumpy. Harrison will have his hands full.

Stickerrocks · 21/03/2016 19:19

Or had Toby been having a sneaky fag there earlier & not put it out properly? I'm sure one of them smokes.

Gruach · 21/03/2016 19:22

Mmm ... Thanks for that link magnificat. I liked his attempts to create character-driven narratives continue to lean on genre conventions. Unfaithful wives, shrewd yet eccentric crones and idealistic beauties tend to show up in one guise or another but I can't agree that any form of written language forces a 21st century director to insist that a pretty woman wears nothing but a few scraps of diaphanous silk day and night, in public and in private.

Also don't quite agree about C.P. Snow. The portraits of Lewis' first and second wives in Strangers and Brothers has stayed with me since my teens. They seemed terribly real in their different ways.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 21/03/2016 19:23

Rob dislikes them because they are sporty and Toby is a womaniser. That's Rob's territory.

magnificatAnimaMea · 21/03/2016 19:28

I agree about the direction, though haven't seen the tv program - was just adding that for perspective. Re Snow - what annoyed me, particularly about Lewis' wives, was that both women were cardboard cutouts of people who could've been characterized in so much more depth. The material was there but seen only through the eyes of someone who conly liked women if they complied with his terms. I guess actually a lot of Snow was cardboard cutouts, which is why I think it might've had something to do with his semantic ability, because he wasn't thick

BYOSnowman · 21/03/2016 19:32

I have no idea what you are on about but anything is better than dullsville Rex and Toby

R4 · 21/03/2016 19:42

I have read a quick wiki on The Night Manager but stopped before I got into spoiler territory. Do I gather that the Olivia Coleman character was written as a bloke and that some TV person had to change the gender of the character to counter all the other women who appear to be no more than bimbos.

Stickerrocks · 21/03/2016 19:44

BYOS but they were "firing" on all cylinders & "smoking" hot tonight! It was an "eggsciting".

Good to hear Jonny sharing his enthusiasm with David. Now we need David to tell Tony & Tom how impressed he was with him and how they should ensure that there's a permanent role for him at Bridge Farm, despite Rob's sniping.

VitaSackvileVest · 21/03/2016 19:44

Maybe the fire was caused by Toby's fry-up.

Surely ex-professional sportsmen are into nutrition not living off chocolate and cupa-soups.

redshoeblueshoe · 21/03/2016 19:45

BYOS we know you don't mean that, or have you forgotten Pip already Grin

Stickerrocks · 21/03/2016 19:45

R4 You're right. Olivia Coleman put a further spanner in the works when she announced that she was pregnant again after being picked for the role.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/03/2016 19:51

I care not for the tedious Bearbuggers and their eggy adventures but concur that it was Alf wot dunnit.

(Also agree that Jed should wear a pair of jeans from time to time. And there is absolutely no sexual frisson whatsoever between her and Hugh Laurie - he might as well be her uncle).

ColdTeaAgain · 21/03/2016 19:55

Knob burnt it down. I wouldn't put anything past him or SOC now! Knob just wants everyone around him fail to make him look like the winner.

Feel a bit sorry for Rex tbh, both for the fire and for being stuck with Toby as a brother Grin

YeOldeTrout · 21/03/2016 20:00

What was Josh's solution for the auto-opening doors so Toby didn't have to haul his delicate arse out of bed at dawn to let the hens out? Did that involve electricity?

Could some wiring have gone wrong?

YeOldeTrout · 21/03/2016 20:03

Phil (good solid brother) & Jack (alcoholic abusive brother)
Big fire (Grace died)

Followed by the Grundy brothers...

Now the Fairbrothers... Why no interesting sister pairs? Have Alice & Kate even been in the same scene together, ever?

BYOSnowman · 21/03/2016 20:09

Will they find a corpse in the remains of the eggmobile? Will Bert fry be arrested and there will be a national 'free the ambridge one' campaign? Will Rex find the real villain and free Bert and win pips love? Do I give a flying fuck?

ElementaryMyDear · 21/03/2016 20:23

Yup, gotta be Alf as arsonist. The shepherd's hut will be next to go up in flames.

BYOSnowman · 21/03/2016 20:26

Where are the bros going to sleep? Is there going to be some 'hilarious' house sharing with lonely Bert?

ElementaryMyDear · 21/03/2016 20:29

In a tent, wasn't it? Until it gets blown away in the middle of the night, of course.

glowfrog · 21/03/2016 20:35

Yep, I wouldn't put it past Rob to burn down the eggsmobile because he's a c*nt. Mostly, however, I suspect faulty wiring from that door-opening thing. At least the hens weren't in yet.

I know I've said before how much I hate Toby. Well, I still do.
