I would say Helen is quite conventional other than choosing to have a child alone. I can't think of anything unconventional she has done

And I don't think anyone on TA have used that term have they? Actually, they've been remarkably accepting. But then - in a totally unrealistic way, they are of most things - a CoE vicar marrying a Hindu, Adam n Ian off the top of my head - in a way that bigots can be quite spiteful about in real life.

I also think Knob probably sees Helen as a bit of a lentil weaver with her organic credentials and (former) cheese-making skills. Knob probably thinks a married woman having a job is unconventional - she should be at home looking after her husband and children. In which case Helen really ticks all the boxes.

That was a completely throwaway remark tonight but I'm approx the same age as Eddie so I know what current requirements are. If he's even paid the minimum self-employed contributions (which I doubt knowing Eddie) I can't imagine he's even entitled to a basic state pension.
