Having a baby alone by donor insemination is pretty unconventional.............

I suppose part of Rob's character is finding a kind of social high ground... which he reaches by competing, putting other people down or finding a way to pin blame on them (any time of blame will do). People like that can't ever learn from mistakes, can they.

I can't muster patience for Ruth Mam-pining... was she always so moody?

LyndaNotLinda · 07/03/2016 17:03

ppea - I know you and I disagree about the rights and wrongs of donor-conceived children but please don't say they have turkey basters for fathers. It's really offensive.

BertrandRussell · 07/03/2016 17:06

Just came back to sat I've reported the turkey baster comment.

GeekLove · 07/03/2016 17:15

Can we have 'Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead' in the next thread title?

lljkk · 07/03/2016 17:19

I found TB line was pretty funny (slaps self but still...).

BYOSnowman · 07/03/2016 17:52

I should imagine the titcheners very much view Henry as the product of a sad pathetic woman and a turkey baster. In fact I'm surprised that insult hasn't been bandied about by one or the other already.

I would say Helen is quite conventional other than choosing to have a child alone. I can't think of anything unconventional she has done

Abraid2 · 07/03/2016 17:56

I think the TB comment should stand, as it falls squarely into what two fictional characters would imagine to be the case vis-a-vis another fictional character.

Greengagesummer · 07/03/2016 17:58

I found Imbroglio's comment @ 15.10 persuasive. Otherwise he gets nothing out of ruining the business other than the perverse satiafaction of gaslighting hellin.

Turning it into a 'proper' business satisfies his need to be right & allows him to rescue the farm, Peggy admires his business sense, Patbot & Tony are useless and wrong & most of all retired so can't get in his way, Henwy's at Boarding School & Tom - well, Tom better watch out cos Organic (said with a snort of derision) has no place in the real world, does it, darling? May as well take your fancy ideas over to Canada. (Johnny will be long gone in his masterplan & Hellin consigned to whatever he'll is deemed suitable, so long as she doesn't get in the way of Knob's proper bring up of SOK, with Arsula & shadow-Dad.

And breathe....

bigbuttons · 07/03/2016 17:59

I love Usula. She is so awful. I have stopped minding the SL now as it has moved away from anything plausible.

LyndaNotLinda · 07/03/2016 18:06

lljkk - I expect you'd find it a whole lot less amusing if your DC were donor-conceive.

And I don't think anyone on TA have used that term have they? Actually, they've been remarkably accepting. But then - in a totally unrealistic way, they are of most things - a CoE vicar marrying a Hindu, Adam n Ian off the top of my head - in a way that bigots can be quite spiteful about in real life.

bigbuttons · 07/03/2016 18:08

Tb comment is fine imo

LillianGish · 07/03/2016 18:51

Having a baby alone by donor insemination is pretty unconventional ^This.
I also think Knob probably sees Helen as a bit of a lentil weaver with her organic credentials and (former) cheese-making skills. Knob probably thinks a married woman having a job is unconventional - she should be at home looking after her husband and children. In which case Helen really ticks all the boxes.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 07/03/2016 18:57

Because she had a child by AI and makes organic cheese and runs an once upon a time organic shop

BYOSnowman · 07/03/2016 18:58

Only the ai seems unconventional to me!!

PinotEgregio · 07/03/2016 19:12

I wonder if Knob/Arsula weren't using the word 'conventional' literally.

I think maybe 'unconventional' is more a euphemism for 'mentally unstable/ incapable' and / or 'displeasingly disobedient'.

Too many inverted commas.

PinotEgregio · 07/03/2016 19:14

Having a baby alone by donor insemination is pretty unconventional

I would add that I think it is independent, brave and strong-minded.

Three more things Knob and Arsula hate in a wife/DIL.

LowDudgeon · 07/03/2016 19:15

Eddie gets a pension???

I bet he's never paid NI in his life

LowDudgeon · 07/03/2016 19:16

Someone asked about Stonyhurst upthread

They have a pre-prep for littlies (called St Mary's Hall iirc) but I don't think they board before 7

Stickerrocks · 07/03/2016 19:19

True Low. You never hear of Eddie having an appointment with his accountant in January to get his tax return submitted, but he may be big & clever enough to do it himself online. Maybe I should offer to do it for him and drop a few hints about the HellRob situation when I give him tax advice.

LowDudgeon · 07/03/2016 19:19

& having re-read post about 3-13, boarding might not start until 13

LowDudgeon · 07/03/2016 19:32

Oh yes, Sticker, please do!

That was a completely throwaway remark tonight but I'm approx the same age as Eddie so I know what current requirements are. If he's even paid the minimum self-employed contributions (which I doubt Hmm knowing Eddie) I can't imagine he's even entitled to a basic state pension.

Is this going to be a new SL to coincide with the row nationally about the raising of the state pension age? I'm guessing Joe probably does have one as he will have been a farm employee for most of his life? Clarrie too.

But Eddie? sucks teeth

enochroot · 07/03/2016 19:33

Didn't Kirsty and Helen reminisce about selling burgers from a van at festivals and GM protests in Ursula's hearing?

BYOSnowman · 07/03/2016 19:48

So by reading this thread it seems the most interesting thing that happened tonight is that Eddie started drawing his pension
