Not long until our thread's 3 year birthday!

OP posts:
toldmywrath · 28/02/2016 19:51

Thanks for the "new" thread. Just caught up. Big BOOP for Johnny, he is so lovely & it's clear that Tony adores him, sigh.

I wish Rob would just eff off somewhere though, he gets my goat & his stupid little laugh & don't we darling & I could go on & On & On........

toldmywrath · 28/02/2016 19:52

BOOP for the CA about his denial quip as well. I love his luscious deep tones, yum.Blush

enochroot · 28/02/2016 20:05

Rob's going to be a pillar of the church! He's covering every base.

At least Tom followed up on his concerns and tried again. I hope he and Kirsty get a chance to chat soon.

BOOP for Bert & also for Lillian who's got the measure of Toby and for the CA announcer who made us both burst out laughing this afternoon.

Stickerrocks · 28/02/2016 20:42

The CA is only in his 40s, but he sounds like vintage Lenny Henry Theo Wildebeest.

GypsyFl0ss · 28/02/2016 21:16

Toby annoys me on many levels but the main one is that he has got the wrong name. He should be roguish Rex and in my head he is. I keep having to recite Terrrible Toby and Reliable Rex whenever I hear them together.

Caught the film this morning. I did love Bert's sarcastic comments about the hen house and automatic doors. And Josh's go-getting " leave it with me" ...more than a hint of OldTom about him there.

LyndaNotLinda · 28/02/2016 21:52

DFW - you didn't mishear. Rex definitely said they had long legs and that they'd be good at running. But they'd said they were smaller cows about 10 mins before.

Oh it's all so bloody shoddy isn't it? Like sodding Crossroads or something. Wobbly sets are one thing but wobbly dialogue is much worse.

Toby should definitely be the good brother and Rex the baddie. I want the pair of them to sod off though. I'd rather have frilly back than these two.

And am I the only person who finds Arsula and Carole's voices difficult to distinguish? Honestly it's bad enough with the young'uns; I'm not sure I can be doing with the older women with identikit tones too

redshoeblueshoe · 28/02/2016 22:04

Lynda - I was just coming on to say that on the iplayer the cast list said Ursula and Carole are played by Eleanor Bron.

Gruach · 28/02/2016 22:08

redshoeShock Don't say such a terrible thing. I've been wondering for days but was too scared to find out.

Tell me you're making it up. Please ...

AugustaFinkNottle · 28/02/2016 22:16

I've seen Ursula actress listed as Carolyn Jones.

AugustaFinkNottle · 28/02/2016 22:18

In fact, here's the cast list giving her name - www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b070hxsq

Gruach · 28/02/2016 22:22

Mmm ... I'm confused.

They do sound alike.

redshoeblueshoe · 28/02/2016 22:27

On Friday she was listed as Eleanor Braun. Carolyn Jones is a sw. I think SOC is just playing us.

Grauch I am not making this up.

It was on the BBC I-player page.

I am beginning to feel that I should give myself a Biscuit Grin

Imbroglio · 28/02/2016 22:35

The Paul Trueman fundraising page is over £59,000.

Gruach · 28/02/2016 22:38

I thought the SW (is she still?) was a different Ms Jones.

It's too late and I'm too distracted to look them all up now. All I can say is that today, for the first time ever I didn't recognise Eleanor Bron's voice. And I had the impression Lilian's Hello Carol was somewhat over emphatic. Suspiciously so. And Ursula sounds like Ms Bron trying to disguise her voice. Will wait and see if they ever have a conversation. Grin

choccyp1g · 28/02/2016 22:57

I thought it was Ursula too.

AskingForAPal · 28/02/2016 23:28

All you Toby & Rex confusers, do what I do and imagine Rex as a very reliable German shepherd. (Only Rexes I've ever met in real life have been.) Nothing in the way Rex behaves is uncharacteristic of a good dog - he's always rounding up birds and being dutiful and loyal. Probably sits opposite Pip in the pub with his tongue hanging out too.

AugustaFinkNottle · 29/02/2016 06:22

I found Lillian winding up Toby hilarious. That's TA at its best.

ArgyMargy · 29/02/2016 07:55

Arsula is the one who sounds like her false teeth are loose (or loosh). Carol sounds soothing and properly posh. However I agree casting is a big problem currently with most of the new young men sounding identical - thank goodness for Jonny.

GypsyFl0ss · 29/02/2016 09:50

Ah, I've always thought Arseula was being played by E Bron but with shite fake teeth. And then last night I didn't recognise her at all when she was being Carol and talking to Bert. Love the idea of them meeting and having a chat Gruach .

Rex is not a reliable name...it's a " well, helllooooo" kind of name.

And as for Pip and her brown cows, black cows, black and white cows in the film. She made it all sound like a day out at the petting zoo! The old Pip would have whined that she couldn't see what all the fuss was about , they're only cows Muuuuummm.

dairyfarmerswife · 29/02/2016 10:12

Wouldn't it make more sense to stagger the calving?

Well some farms do but the cost of production in that system tends to be higher. The spring calving system takes advantage of the fact that the cows are at peak lactaction when the grass is as peak growth so less need to buy in feed. It also means you are only feeding calves for a short part of the year too, not all year round.

It could be that there are more cows, or that he doesn't know them but it just felt like the SW had forgotten the previous system. He could have saidnitnwas because there were more, or different cows, but he didnt.

BOOP for Lillian winding Toby up last night. I took a while to recognise Carol's voice too.

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 29/02/2016 10:27

Can I ask for your help, oh wise ones?
I was chatting to my dm about Rob and Helen's wedding on the IOW. Dm remembers Helen saying it was spontaneous as it seemed so romantic. However that wouldn't be possible as they would both have had to register at least 28 days in advance and give the location of the planned wedding.
Can anyone remember if they registered or can we get her out on a technicality?!

BYOSnowman · 29/02/2016 10:29

Wasn't that a bit of stupid sw again? I recall a lot of discussion at the time but can't recall the outcome

Gruach · 29/02/2016 10:35

squirrel I recall we talked about it at the time and said it couldn't be done ... Interestingly, a little while later, Helen was heard to say they had planned it all while in Ambridge so they would have all the correct documentation etc. The words "hasty re-write" did spring, unbidden, to my mind.

(BBC The Archers has just requested [permission?] to follow me on Twitter. GrinConfused I never know what to do when this happens - I don't post tweets myself, just lurk.)

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 29/02/2016 10:37

Thank you!

ppeatfruit · 29/02/2016 10:48

Thank you DFW I had forgotten about the lactation thing Blush I wondered some of the new BF cows were younger so had longer legs?

Lil making Toby work and get 'mud' on his jacket for the possibility of a couple of thou' for his chickens was funny.

I purposely have not gone on Twitter Gruach can you lurk without signing in? Sounds like we need to pay to talk to you if TA want you Grin
