Leap Day a week on Monday. Will Pip be proposing to Mathew?

BYOSnowman · 18/02/2016 19:12

That was clumsy wasn't it

'I wonder how mum and dad are getting on at the auction?'

Cut to 'David, you did well...'

BYOSnowman · 18/02/2016 19:15

The David and Ruth scene was surely inserted at the last minute as a side swipe at soc surely

Stickerrocks · 18/02/2016 19:22

Thanks Asking.

Ruth Jones is lovely and is the sort of writer who dots the Is and crosses the Ts. Just in case anyone thinks she is putting herself forward for the writer's job, she did a spot on Eddie Mair's PM this evening bemoaning the abrupt end of plot lines like Adam/Charlie, wishing the Fairbrethran further and begging the new SW to give Rob his come-uppance by all the key-Archers rounding on him and knocking him down to size.

AdventuresOfADentist · 18/02/2016 19:46

BOOP for Brian remembering he has a son and for criticising L&J's arrangement.

DSClarke · 18/02/2016 19:48

Ruth Jones is a great. She wrote Gavinand Stacey with James Corden, and I think she also created Stella on Sky.

I have not see much of Stella and I was put off Gavin and Stacey at first because it was on BBC 3 and I thought it would be too Yoof. However, I love it, and a couple of its particular strengths are great writing across generations; there are some very funny older people as well as the middle aged and youngster, and they also totally cracked good writings for very different families - it felt very genuine with lots of family history and in jokes that the audience did not feel excluded from.

I think she would be an interesting choice to join the team

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 18/02/2016 19:57

OMG I am just SO behind.
Haven't listened for about a week. Marking place until I can catch up

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/02/2016 20:07

Keri Davies has said this tonight:

keridavies ‏@keridavies
Thank you all the folk who suggested I should be #TheArchers editor. Very flattering, but it’s not the job for me.

Hmmm. I wonder if it's been advertised yet. Maybe they will headhunt instead.

Lilymaid · 18/02/2016 20:16

Message for the experts - so will demise of SOC mean that there's a chance of the stories becoming more realistic? Any chance of greater input from the "agricultural story editor " or anyone who knows something about the countryside or farming?

elpth · 18/02/2016 20:42

Speaking of which, I've not noticed our own agricultural adviser around recently? Dairyfarmerswife are you there? Was tonight's sale realistic?

choccyp1g · 18/02/2016 20:59

Speaking of unrealistic, they last milked the cows in the evening before sending them to market unmilked? Poor cows would have been bursting.

choccyp1g · 18/02/2016 21:02

And the Fairbrothers are suddenly living in the caravan at Hollowtree, despite having no animals to look after. No way does the tenancy agreement allow that.

dairyfarmerswife · 18/02/2016 21:12

Hello! Haven't listened to tonight yet, saving it for bedtime. Binge watching West Wing at present Grin

Choccy I think it is pretty normal (though I will check with DH) not to milk dairy cows on the morning of the sale. It shows them off to best effect to have udders full of milk, rather than being empty having been milked. They shouldn't be too uncomfortable, and to be honest there are lots of things to push them out of their comfort zone on sale day - being transported, washed, put through a sale ring, transported again and finding themselves in herd of unfamiliar cows and milked through a different parlour. Just one of those things I'm afraid, and they will quickly readjust.

BYOSnowman · 18/02/2016 21:19

I'm feeling sad for the cows now. i hope best friends weren't split up

(outs self as a total city girl)

JessieMcJessie · 18/02/2016 22:04

I hope the last bit of reflection we'll hear from David and Ruth for a while- we get it! Just get on with stuff FFS!

And what was Pip blathering about with " have you ever seen a whole here being sold before?" It's only a couple of years since her relatives at Bridge Farm sold theirs, and that was much sadder because there were no replacements.

2rebecca · 18/02/2016 22:24

I've given up as I don't want to listen to emotional manipulation whilst I'm cooking the dinner and find the way pat has just stopped visiting and talking to Helen bizarre. It's not as though Helen's not had a baby before. How they can all believe pregnant women can't drive or do light work in a shop is beyond a joke. If Helend needs so much "rest" surely her mum who lives round the corner would be popping in helping her.
I'm just reading summaries and listening to the odd Rob free episode. I can't tell the comedy goose brothers apart anyway, and why would Brian just be letting Lilian live with them forever? The real Brian would happily pay to stick her in a small flat somewhere for a while. I thought she was brilliant at property stuff and would be reeling in the money with Amside again anyway. None of it makes any sense.
Bring back the old scriptwriters who understood the characters and weren't into gothic horror stories.

elpth · 18/02/2016 22:55

hello dfw! Thanks for keeping us right

spiker · 18/02/2016 23:34

I've had to look after the DSs for last two days - took an age to catch up on here! I heard about SOC going, and just read article about it all in the Guardian. Last para has advice for the newbie “Never, under any circumstances, look on the web forums.”

BYOSnowman · 18/02/2016 23:41

Poor advice

2rebecca · 18/02/2016 23:47

It depends if you care what your listeners think. It's an entertaining radio programme not cancer research they are working on. If a lot of their audience don't like it it's usually easier to change your programme than find a new audience

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 19/02/2016 00:41

Who made the other TA suggestions after RJ on PM? Suggested that he would have nice things happen to Ed?

enochroot · 19/02/2016 01:47

We should draw up a wish list........

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/02/2016 07:57

Steve Lamacq.

Re looking at web forums - I think the BBC should keep a weather eye on how TA is going down with its core addicts listeners. However, I'm relaxed about the fact that we can't dictate what goes into the problem, not least because there isn't unanimity on that point. I would never have asked for an emotional abuse storyline but it's gripping listening. I don't want it to crowd everything else out, though.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/02/2016 07:57

Problem? Freudian slip there! Can't even blame autocorrect, as I'm on my laptop. Programme is what I meant. Blush

ArgyMargy · 19/02/2016 07:58

I love Ruth Jones - and over 5 or 6 series of Stella the continuity of characters and storylines has been exemplary (never mind the fact that it's hilarious). I expect great things! But please no more scenes of Rooth & Deevid telling each other how much they love each other. Boak. Plus all the "I'm so looking forward to the future" is just asking for trouble.
