Grauch Star

Sadly no BOOP for BOOP today - builders merchants seriously and I thought you were committed to these threads

Gruach · 17/02/2016 14:12

So now we're in the lecture room doing group listening! This is a whole new experience. Never properly listened with anyone else since I was a child.

Once tried listening while doing something horizontal - the other person apparently found it off putting. Confused.

Mass groaning. So weird.

Gherkinsmummy · 17/02/2016 14:16

Delurking. Does anyone else think it's weird and rude for Ursula to answer Helen's phone?

FinestGrundyTurkey · 17/02/2016 14:17

Yes. Very.

redshoeblueshoe · 17/02/2016 14:21

Grauch they are groaning at what you've just posted Grin

Gruach · 17/02/2016 14:22

Have discovered a couple of MNers!!

(They are sitting right in front of the hole in the back of my jumper ...)

Now we're talking about social work and dysfunctional families in TA.

BYOSnowman · 17/02/2016 14:28

Lowfield also points out that not only does blossom cottage have a lounge (where pat and ursula were sitting) and a playroom (where Henry and Helen were milking the cows) and a kitchen (where ursula too Henry to make lunch) but it of course now has the extra bedroom

Bad form keri, bad form

Dumdedumdedum · 17/02/2016 14:34

Yep, badly done, Keri, badly done.

Hmm, this is interesting: "Jo Moriarty ‏@Aspirantdiva 3m3 minutes ago

Helen Burrows says Pat's refusal to accept what is happening is a possible example of 'disguised compliance' #AcademicArchers"

BYOSnowman · 17/02/2016 14:36

It must be pretty good being a sw these days - any inconsistencies in character can be explained away by some academic theory!!

Maybe pats change in character is a precursor to a dementia sl

Dumdedumdedum · 17/02/2016 14:44

Whole branches of "The Archers'" families have already succumbed to memory loss, if not actual dementia, it seems to me, BYOSnowman.

Oh, no, does this mean we still have three years of this left, or only two?

"Peter Matthews ‏@urbaneprofessor 45s46 seconds ago

Realistically, the Rob and Helen storyline could last for four years. That's how long it takes to escape abuse #AcademicArchers"

Gruach · 17/02/2016 14:44

Heatherpet now.

Crowd gettin' rowdy ...

Dumdedumdedum · 17/02/2016 14:46

"dr nicola headlam ‏@networknicola 4m4 minutes ago

All archers listeners need #robspite from the relentlessness of #robandhelen #AcademicArchers - put him in a wickerman says helen burrows"

(I have no idea what that means but thought someone here might be interested.)

BYOSnowman · 17/02/2016 14:46

Oh god, please no!!

The thing is, I could see it going on longer if he wasn't making a fuck up of his work in her family business. Tom is already smelling a rat and if he can prove sausage skullduggery to pat and Tone they will side with him. Tony has happily stood up to knob in the past (rustic tables)

sunnydayinmay · 17/02/2016 14:48

Fascinating - Mumsnet following Twitter following a conference about the Archers. This is exactly what social media is about!Grin

GruntledOne · 17/02/2016 14:52

Ooh, what happened re Heatherpet?

redshoeblueshoe · 17/02/2016 14:54

Maybe someone should tweet this thread is that even possible

Gruach · 17/02/2016 14:55

A lecture on social care ...

Dumdedumdedum · 17/02/2016 14:57

I sooo wish I was there, following the twitter thingy (you can tell I'm down with the jargon and in with the kids, eh) is really making me realise what I am missing!

Gruntled, does this answer your question?
"Pip Byrne ‏@pjebyrne 1m1 minute ago

The state of social care for the elderly in rural areas summed up in two words: oh nooooooo #AcademicArchers"

Dumdedumdedum · 17/02/2016 14:57

Tee hee! "Peter Matthews ‏@urbaneprofessor 2m2 minutes ago

A lot of our speakers had trouble finding stuff out about Borsetshire... County Council didn't respond to an FOI request #AcademicArchers"

Gruach · 17/02/2016 15:05

Actually - fun as this is - it's making me realise how much I might have missed by not having gone to any Archers gatherings where they talk about the craft of writing the thing. I'm probably more interested in that than an academic analysis of the sociological implications of TA issues.

Community Archaelogy in Ambridge now.

Dumdedumdedum · 17/02/2016 15:10

"Peter Matthews ‏@urbaneprofessor 3m3 minutes ago

So pleased @CarenzaLewis also recognises that #thearchers IS a documentary #AcademicArchers"

Umm - I've lived away from the UK for a while now, is Carenza Lewis an archaeological sight?

Gruach · 17/02/2016 15:12

Ambridge Test Pit Sites. I admit I have slightly lost track. But a fair bit of work has gone into this.

Fink · 17/02/2016 15:15

I'm loving the updates from the Conference (in my 30s and have got no idea how Twitter works), but won't someone please think of the spreadshits?! This will be playing havoc with the stats. We might have to send Dad3 some Flowers

They played a bit of Barwick Green on Farming Today this morning (twice, rather gratuitously); Caz Graham commented, 'Ha ha! I bet that woke you up!'

Gruach · 17/02/2016 15:25

So archaeologically Ambridge is most like Clavering in Essex.

DadDadDad · 17/02/2016 15:27

Fink - the stats are the stats; if the posting rate spikes, so be it, it's all grist to the mill. (Just as the wedding of Kirsty and Tom quadrupled(ish) the posting rate for a day, and I look back to that as a record to be beaten).

It just gets us closer to the 50,000th post, which is in a race to arrive around the time of Helen's baby (late May).
