And then the prospect of Valentine's alone with Rob...

Joskar · 31/01/2016 22:26

Congratulations, jessie! Lovely news.

gruach my fil is called Jolyon. After the Forsyte.

I'm surprised so many folk in Ambridge don't eat black pudding. I thought it was quite a normal thing to eat. Mind you where I'm from black pudding is a religion. Or it would be if religion wasn't religion. Any road it's totally fine to eat it while pregnant. His "how much did she eat" line was scary stuff. BOOP to the actor but...brrr...unbearable to listen to.

Sticky toffee pudding is not the cure for ED. Does sound like bulimia now.

Does Hell realise Roy will be there too? Will there be an opportunity to open up to Kirsty? What about the meal? Will she cope?

I'm very worried that H won't be able to love the baby. Rob said something about her not caring for the baby and I just had the thought that maybe this is going to be a sl that runs for years. 20 years from now we'll see H having been cold as ice to SoK for all those years getting stabbed in a big matricidal rage.

AdventuresOfADentist · 31/01/2016 23:07

I'm not meaning to spam the thread with Jolyons, but one of the presenters on a programme called The Revolution will be televised was a Jolyon Gruach. It was on BBC3 though. sheffdocfest.com/speakers/7062

Gruach · 31/01/2016 23:14

Hah! Too late Dentist - I'm already fluttering my eyelashes at Joskar's D(?)FIL.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 01/02/2016 01:55

I think when she was sick early in pregnancy that was actually ED / anxiety but the pg both exaccerbated it and acted as a good cover.

Now she is still being sick it is harder to pass it off a pg sickness as she doesn't seem to have hyperemisis.

I used to throw up with anxiety if I was made to eat and it was very much like that. Half way through a meal and very sudden.

So I suspect she fibds being confro ted with food very stressful combined with eating in public plus the mention of valentines and it is all too much. (Althpigh the sounds were more like washing her face so I assumed either she was washing he face after being sick or crying).

Isn't Henwee's laugh sinister these days.

Dumdedumdedum · 01/02/2016 04:57

Sorry, what's SOTMC?

Imbroglio · 01/02/2016 05:35

Shrug off the mortal coil?

Imbroglio · 01/02/2016 05:36

this mortal coil

GypsyFl0ss · 01/02/2016 06:40

There's a Jolyon Jenkins who presents on R4 sometimes and the previous manager of our local cinema was a Jolyon too.

I got the feeling that Knob was trying to feed her up because he was worried about his son rather than trying to torture her with food.

I wonder what the scan will show? When's her due date?

Gherkinsmummy · 01/02/2016 07:01

I worked with two Jolyons though one was called Jo.

Rob is so condescending to Helen, eat up darling!

Dumdedumdedum · 01/02/2016 07:13

Thanks, Imbroglio - makes me think, "shuffle off this mortal coil", perhaps? I really hope neither David nor Jim do in the near future.

I have managed to listen to this week's episodes a bit at a time, forewarned for the misery by this thread. Rob is unspeakable. It seems to me that Helen is made nauseous by the thought of eating food - I was surprised that she didn't run off to be sick whilst she and Tom were making the black pudding. I'm not getting the impression she is making herself throw up, though, more that she is genuinely reacting to the thought of food by vomiting. I don't think this was how she was the first time round, was it? She just stopped eating but wasn't noticeable rushing off to throw up at the mention of food, was she?

Dumdedumdedum · 01/02/2016 07:14

*noticeably

Imbroglio · 01/02/2016 07:35

I agree that rob is out of his depth
now.

He thinks he can control everything but Helen's eating disorder is more powerful than him.

PseudoBadger · 01/02/2016 07:42

HOW DARE Helen have an ED that he hasn't approved?

OP posts:
Dumdedumdedum · 01/02/2016 07:59

Black pudding bad, sticky toffee pudding good? Talk about getting it wrong! No pudding for Helen either way, and Rob can't control that. Not sure he realises it yet, though.

Veritat · 01/02/2016 08:24

It's definitely "shuffle off this mortal coil", from Hamlet.

Imbroglio · 01/02/2016 09:00

Jim will be fine. Its all part of the process of 'Jazzification'

GypsyFl0ss · 01/02/2016 09:16

I don't want Jimus to die. Although I would have struggled if I'd be stuck in a garden with Auntie Cardboard and pair of binoculars, even without a hangover!
The lesson in how we must wash out our bird baths and feeders to prevent bird illnesses was very clunkily done. I do hate when they patronisingly try to educate us!

Veritat · 01/02/2016 10:55

Somewhat belatedly saying I think this is possibly the best thread title yet. Shame we're filling it up so quickly.

Gruach · 01/02/2016 10:59

JapanNextYear · 01/02/2016 11:15

The whole black pudding being some kind of 'out there' thing. It's just normal surely? And also the current new 'superfood'.

Haven't heard Sunday's ep not sure I want to having read your comments!

redshoeblueshoe · 01/02/2016 11:43

Japan Rob was particularly vile, it was certainly not nice to listen to.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 01/02/2016 11:51

Rob didn't want Helen eating the black pudding because he wants to undermine Tom. Now he's getting angry worried that Helen might actually be harming the baby so he's assuming he can coerce her into eating like he coerces her into everything.
Or, he's just fucking further with her head.

BYOSnowman · 01/02/2016 12:06

I think a lot of people are crediting rob with more levels of calculated evil than he has!!

I find the worst part is the way he uses Henry to bully her

As for her finding the idea of them having a cozy night in vonit inducing - isn't that all they do every night anyway? So it was either a flashback to the last time they had a 'cozy night in' or her body reacting to the sudden onslaught of food

Either way - she clearly knows she is being abused now and I would expect her heart to heart with Kirsty to be imminent

AskingForAPal · 01/02/2016 12:16

"Surely a production like The Archers WOULD properly research this sort of thing??"

I'm sure they ABSOLUTELY would because EDs are such a common and important issue, and they wouldn't want to mess about with it. Trust is one of the things the Beeb really prides itself on, and if they buggered a story this up lots of people would lose trust, I think. Especially as the Archers has this educational brief anyway.

Whether SOC might just overrule it - "I see your carefully done research but that would make for a less interesting story, so let's bend the likely outcome a bit" - who knows?

Helen is not being sick on purpose, the times we've heard her rushing to the bathroom from Rob or Pat etc! AS IF someone suffering from bulimia flags that up to all and sundry by retching, hand over mouth, and rushing to toilet mid-chat. As others have said, EDs are generally a very secretive business. Which makes Pat's whole "it's fine, Rob says Helen says she's not starving herself!" totally ridiculous.
