Thanks to SmallLegsOrSmallEggs for this thread title way back in November!

Phoebe has reason to be confident and I don't think she is over-confident. She's wisely hedging her bets during the wait.
I thought Brian was moaning that she'd want a car but she said she wouldn't be able to afford one at uni. Obviously he's going to buy her one though.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/01/2016 13:33

Teenagers in Ambridge don't always get what they set their hearts on. Alice applied to the RAF and didn't get in. I hope Phoebe does get an Oxford offer (I see the Oxbridge applicants thread on here is already predicting that she will!). I believe most applicants get better grades than the offer requires, so there is every chance she will be there in October.

I'd like to hear more about what Josh is applying for.

songbird · 05/01/2016 13:54

Oh blimey, 678 messages already and I've only just caught up!

Happy New Year everyone! I think 2015 will go down in history as the year TA went nuts and it'll be best not to talk about it!

I have a bad feeling about Eddie's pigs. He really thinks they're there long term doesn't he? Poor Clarrie.

JD is doing my swede in trilling about Oxford. Grandmotherly pride is lovely of course, but she's taking it waaaay too far.

mollie123 · 05/01/2016 14:33

sorry I upset the 'feebs' fanclub - you are all obviously over-infested in the girl (and pip)
not another criticism will I dare pass on the irritating young women in TA Shock

Gruach · 05/01/2016 14:48

The irritating thing is that there are not enough young women whose lives are taken seriously by the writers.

Where has Alice been all year? Or Amy? Lily? Nic's slightly older but still, woefully neglected. Fallon seemed to conjure a thriving business out of fairy-dust. Brenda needs to come back occasionally.

Just hope they'll do better by Keira, Poppy, Mia and Doc Loc's daughter. And redeem themselves over Bethany.

Dipankrispaneven · 05/01/2016 15:45

I don't think anyone's in Phoebe's fan club, mainly they're pointing out some errors in your evidence, mollie.

ppeatfruit · 05/01/2016 16:37

Exactly Dipankris Grin. Oh and no one actually said ASFAIR that Jonny's dyslexia is 'cured'. Just that the college has been made aware ? He has more confidence?

But when Alice was in it we were constantly moaning about how much time she was getting off work.

PseudoBadger · 05/01/2016 17:07

The SWs have clearly ditched her as they didn't know what to do with her. Or Chris. Can it be, that fulfilled individuals have no place in soap opera dramas?!

OP posts:
Gruach · 05/01/2016 17:14

That's what I mean about not taking her seriously mummytime. I know the show is primarily about what happens in Ambridge, and I know (none better) that early careers don't always work out as anticipated, but they made a complete mockery of her having a very hard won job. I hope it improves.

And let's not forget the sheer rubbish of Brenda, Brenda being so frailly feminine that she gave up a job that required commuting so she could see more of Tom. Utter crap.

I am beyond pleased that finally an Ambridge girl has a shot at using her own brain rather than daddy's money or family connections to make her life.

(I would be so thrown out of that conference for lack of academic distance ...)

AnnieNoMouse · 05/01/2016 18:06

I'm happy to be in Phoebe's fan club Grin
She is nothing like her biological mother, which is a bonus in itself, and the only times I've heard her being a "stroppy teenager" were when a)she found out about Roy's infidelity (and she lost her family home as a result) and b)when Kate walked in on her having sex with Alex.

Actually phoebe is one of the few I actually like in TA.
Pip is a complete pain on the other hand ...

BitOutOfPractice · 05/01/2016 19:11

Why the hell is Helen still persisting with Ian? He made it quite clear he didn't want anything to do with her

Why is Shula gushing over knob? What happened to her opinions after the hunt saboteur incident

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 05/01/2016 19:13

I am not missing Alice of the Adenoids. Dinstinctive voice but I didn't like it. Adam's is one nasal whiny voice too many as it is.

I see no reason why Saphy Phoebe shouldn't succeed unless it is just to knock JD down a peg and that is hardly fair.

Isn't Justin a charmer pretending she was from Cambridge.

And so finally...confirmation. route B looks unlikely isn't SOC clever fooling us all into thinking there would be a road through Ambridge and then not doing it. Hmm

nippiesweetie · 05/01/2016 19:15

Who is Tilly Button? Her name makes me think of the Perthshire town, Tullybelton. I used to think that Stanley Luncarty (two more Perthshire towns/villages) would be a great character name.

BYOSnowman · 05/01/2016 19:17

I'd forgotten about route b

Isn't that the name of a popular music artist?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 05/01/2016 19:20

Perfect moment to capitulate re. Ian, isn't it?
Though to be honest, if I'd said I was cooking and someone wouldn't touch a mouthful, I'd probably be narked. Unless of course I knew full well that person was a recovered anorexic and I'd already done my darnedest to rekindle that anorexia, I suppose...

OllyBJolly · 05/01/2016 19:23

I used to think that Stanley Luncarty (two more Perthshire towns/villages) would be a great character name.

Stanley could have a pint in The Bull with Findo Gask!

JessieMcJessie · 05/01/2016 19:26

Tilly Button is a silent nippy, along with her sister Molly. They are I think maybe about 10 and 7 and are usually referred to as "those button girls" and blamed for all sorts of mischief- stealing bunting, hiding Mia Grundy's May Queen crown, causing havoc at Brownies. I think Millie Button once tap danced in one of Lynda's shows. I agre Stanly Luncarty is a gray name- maybe a visiting Uncle of Jazzer's?

JessieMcJessie · 05/01/2016 19:26

Great not gray

AnnieNoMouse · 05/01/2016 19:30

Is Knob sedating Henry now, as well as Helen? Shock

EveEveEve · 05/01/2016 19:33

New to this but OBSESSED with Rob/Helen storyline.
Jumped off my kitchen stool Wink when Rob shouted at Helen.
So much laying down of possible plots tonight - How to make a horse lose control - terrifying...
Get really disappointed if they don't appear in an episode but am proper Archers fan - really!

doceodocere · 05/01/2016 19:43

I believe there are people who have actually stopped listening, but can't leave the thread

Me! This is me! I just lurk now and have nc a couple of times but I've been around since the first thread and always read your marvellous commentary.

I had been on the verge of giving up for a year or so but kept hanging in there. I was really upset about Matt's departure (Tiger would NEVER have done such a thing to pusscat) and the Hadley Hough /route B distraction, but the introduction of the fairbrethren at the expense of continuing storylines about known and loved characters (Hayley/Mike, Vicky, Bethany) was the final straw.

I do miss it, but I miss the way it was. It's like losing touch with a friend from a long time ago and realising it's for the best because we're too different now.

enochroot · 05/01/2016 19:47

Careless of him to leave the bank statement lying around. At least now we know there's £7500 left.
